Dana Vespoli scores a bullseye

Warning: Spoilers
Since Nica Noelle already shot a "Lesbian Stepmother" for the late great Girl Candy label years earlier, I was not looking forward to this new feature by Nica's successor in the lesbian romance genre, Dana Vespoli. But Dana has come up with a highly creative and informed take on Hollywood. It follows up in subject matter and dark tone her Evil Angel project "Hollywood Babylon".

There are just four main characters, led by lovely Jenna Sativa, fast making her mark in Sapphic Cinema. In an extremely clever roman a clef approach, Dana has Jenna playing Kristie McAdams, a takeoff on Tatum O'Neal of all people. She was the youngest Oscar-winner of all time for the movie "Paper Cloud", and her dad was a big Hollywood star -namely the Bogdanovich teaming with Ryan in "Paper Moon".

This cuteness pays off thematically, as we look behind the scenes at Hollywood royalty. Her new step-mom is Jelena Jensen, mean and severely styled enough to be auditioning for one of those many "Meleficent" knock-offs (like the current Charlize/Blunt huntsman epic). Director Vespoli plays a make-up artist whose words of wisdom for Jenna mirror the real strains of disillusionment in her screenplays -she should be adapting Moravia novels to the XXX screen.

Final character is a key personage, Sara Luvv as Jenna's BFF, but who turns out to be Ann Baxter to J's Bette Davis when the story goes south "All About Eve" style. I cannot recall a recent porno that has such a rich storyline texture as this one while maintaining its 90% wall-to-wall-sex content Prime Directive, as the fans get antsy nowadays whenever schmoozing replaces humping.

Performances, both sexual and in terms of characterization, are top-notch -which would make Vespoli's "LS" deserving of industry awards if in fact any such awards were on the level. Its inside jokes are a lot of fun, too, as in naming Jelena's character after Robert Downey Jr.'s ex-wife -how hip is that?
