Intense
myjesusislord26 February 2021
This film short is authentically terrorizing as it grips the imagination and introduces its audience to an absolutely horrifying result from a car accident...which was the reversal of our normal volume of SOUND being intensified to an unimaginable level...

To be able to hear sounds is a gift, this film clearly shows you the reversal can be maddening to the point of no return...and you cannot turn it down! Seriously and realistically scary... just the thought of ending it with 2 knives... for each ear piercing the eardrums...possibly permanently if you did not die from that action...I was left SPEECHLESS!

Would love to see a full length version of this movie, knowing me at the time this awesome actress gets the two knives...my eyes will be closed and I will scream out to the SOUND! Fantastic movie...I can't even imagine that, can you? BRAVO to Crystal Porter Bazemore and Director Tawan Bazemore. Great film guys. BRAVO❣👌👍🙏💯💞

An Amazing film!

The stress and reality of losing ones hearing is frightening and the intensity can be felt throughout this film. Crystal did an amazing job at expressing the pains of that reality in such a realistic way that it begs you to appreciate everything about life!

A brilliant concept brilliantly executed!
J_W_Mack5 March 2021
I saw this on the big screen at a film festival, and I sure am glad that I was able to experience it theatrically. It stood head and shoulders above the other shorts it shared a program with. It is a visually marvelous and aurally harrowing emotional and physical experience. I was stunned by Tawan Bazemore's directing and vision. If this is what he's capable of in the short film format, I can't wait to see what he's capable of in the domain of feature films.

I must also give high praise to Crystal Porter Bazemore's performance. Her commitment to her performance stuck with me well ever leaving the theater. It takes a lot of courage to do something that gut-wrenching and emotionally and physically demanding. I greatly look forward to her future on the screen as well.

Sound is entirely worthy of all the praise and buzz it has been receiving. Best wishes to this enormously gifted husband-and-wife filmmaking team. Looking forward to the next experience!

EXTREME!

I waited to see this film and the only regret I have for not seeing sooner is being able to predict it being a hit. This movie grabs you by th lapels and doesn't let go until you realize that a lot of other movies youve been watching were a waste of time. Amazing acting, incredible directing, the cinematography captivated all of my attention. Excellent, excellent, excellent film!!!

A Masterpiece in Cinema
stefan-25314 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Simple, but elegant. As a filmmaker that works in Post Production, I can honestly say, "This film shows how important SOUND is in cinema." This movie, although a short, is as important to cinema, from a PRODUCTION aspect, as the feature films, A Quiet Place and Baby Driver. The performance of Crystal Bazemore is amazing! She digs deep, beautifully, without dialogue. The vision of Writer/Director Tawan Bazemore shows the brilliant, creative mind he has. I'm looking forward to his next creation!

unique and elegantly terrifying
brandall-6022912 March 2021
What a beautifully done, clear, sharp, elegant and very disturbing film. The imagery and the acting make everything so strikingly real - the environments and the full range of emotions - that the experience of the Crystal Porter Bazemore character's joy and unrelenting misery and anguish is inescapable. I'm looking forward to more great work by Tawan and Crystal Porter Bazemore - perhaps something more upbeat after the elegantly terrifying "Sound."

Riveting film with a twist of compelling suspense.
tfwhack129 March 2021
Riveting film with compelling twist of suspense which rivals the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Awesome portrayal by Crystal Porter-Bazemore allowed viewers to transform emotions along with and for the main character. Bravo to the cast and entire production team of Sound. I love this film and it's already one of my favorites.

This film is amazing. Great cinematography, and awesome acting. Completely drawn in. The ending is mind blowing. I didn't know whether to scream, cover my eyes or watch. Would love to see this as a whole movie, not a short. Absolutely, loved it.

Cinematic Joy!
faizankareem12313 June 2019
The sound of a leaking faucet. It's something as inconsequential as fly on a window or a gust of wind out in the yard. Yet, it can by perceived in many different ways by different people.

That's the motif that filmmaker Tawan Bazemore dares to tread in his short film narrative SOUND, which wins primarily because of its simplicity. While it does that, it also, in essence drives a very important message - How we react in the face of adversity defines our choices, which ultimately make us who we are.

While the filmmaker's 'Hitchcockiantribute' manages to grab our attention with it's simple narrative, it very aptly supported in the departments of acting, sound design, editing and some dreamy visuals that keep you glued. It's audacious territory, when you try to keep the narrative flowing through only one character. But to do that convincingly, without any dialogue, is art. In a lot of these scenarios, the burden falls on the actor to convey the story through their expressions. This is perhaps the one area that Crystal, playing the protagonist, gets covered like a boss.

She chooses subtlety as her weapon while portraying the character's inner trauma, in the earlier half of the film which perfectly camouflages what we could expect during the final minutes. And it is in the final minutes that one gets to experience the agony of the character, almost making one feel as if you ARE the character faced with a very difficult choice. Some terrific stuff on display here by Crystal!

Tawan's love for color and its importance while depicting the mood of a scene is very evident here. The cinematography complements it, but it is truly the color that absorbs us into the scene. Be it the cloudy and hilly terrain that reminds us of Colombian'eque magical realism, or the birds that the character longs to be able to hear, it all adds to the mystique of the narrative which unfolds the inner conflict of the protagonist.

But the hero of the film, if you were to ask me, is the SOUND (literally). The sound design of this film is a whole story in itself. Jeffery Alan Jones and Tawan Bazemore, both understand one thing very clearly - Sound is a character in the film. The main character, no less. The sound design literally gives us shivers, so much that we end up hoping the forks and knives don't fall lest they injure the eardrums of the character. It is the antagonist without a form and it's build very effectively to create maximum impact. And impact, it does create (The last shot made me jump out of my chair!)

Because of its simple theme, there a lot of questions that Sound raises and therein lies the cinematic beauty of it. Should we allow pain to win over hope? Or should we place so much trust in hope that we forget the fear of the pain? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind. Which, according to me, can be as inconsequential as a leaking faucet or something as important as our choices.

On the Edge of my Seat!
samikshlovic26 February 2021
Words cannot begin to describe the way I feel about SOUND, Tawan Bazemore's brilliant vision, and Crystal Porter-Bazemore's outstanding portrayal of "Isabelle".

I have watched this film like a hundred times, and now, a hundred and one thanks to its release on the streaming platform Tubi. SOUND is wonderous and frightening at the same time. I found myself reeled in to the story, especially Isabelle's mysterious manner. Because of the ever so dreamy visuals/colors and complex sound design, I was curious and anxious and focused and scared! I felt myself paying attention to the slightest sound and analyzing Isabelle's every move. What is going to happen next? What's happening to Isabelle?! I felt as though I was physically there, hiding from the monster, too.

With there being no dialogue, Crystal Porter-Bazemore brings so much life to Isabelle. Tawan Bazemore's direction is absolutely unmatched. With every twist and turn, I'm biting my fingernails as my heart palpitates irregularly. As a viewer, I am extremely happy to have experienced a multitude of emotions while watching SOUND. Tawan and Crystal are a perfect dynamic duo. And also, fantastic job with all of the sound design and music Jeffery Alan Jones!! Congrats SOUND team and I wish everyone nothing but continued success.

I am not really into thrillers but this film I was utterly entertained by, how the director was able to portray and everyday experience as a horrifying reality was beyond genius! The main actress did a spectacular job portraying this message and I am fascinated each and every time I watch this film! I highly recommend this is a must watch!!!!!

INSPIRING
EverydayTheBrandInc3 March 2021
This movie inspired me to "Step Out of My Box" in capturing the films that I direct. As I told one of my associates that the film is "Cinematically Delicious". The work put into this film from the acting to the cinematography to the editing went well beyond what I expected. Glad I came across it!!!

Hitchcockian
aalewis3030 January 2023
Most films depend on dialogue as a crutch to coddle the audience, but Sound relies on old school filmmaking to entertain the viewers. Each time I see it, I have a new experience with it. It's nicely paced, yet requires an attentive audience to pick up on visual cues. You have to be a patient film watcher, in a patient mood. Extreme suspense is built until the very end.

Sound is an excellent film masterfully shot/directed by Tawan Bazemore. Crystal Bazemore provides rock solid acting through the use of her face and eyes. There is not a loud background score despite being a thriller, and the sound design is top notch.

47 FILM FESTIAL AWARDS - YES! SOUND IS AN AWESOME FILM
therealpatriciatone7 March 2021
I had the opportunity to meet the lead actress before reviewing the film SOUND because my facebook friend, Cinematographer Tawan Bazemore, is her husband and he intro'd us. She happily agreed to do my show, Ask Aunt Tricia Advice Vlog & Podcast Show. I didn't know what to expect because sometimes when you're friends with the man - the wife is usually a little uncomfortable. BUT! This sweet, cute, and full of personality beauty totally took me by surprise. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER! Crystal Porter-Bazemore is a gem that should be protected at all costs.

Tawan sent me a private link to view the film soon after the interviews. He's episode #6 and she's episode #16 on YouTube. I'd seen the short clips and test shots that he'd posted of Sound, but I was still not sure what to expect with a title that could mean so many different things. I popped my popcorn and got my drink then reclined in my fav recliner.

First off of course, the cinematography is nothing short of perfection - which deserved all 47 awards in total. It's hard for me to start this review because I loved every frame of this film. Crystal Porter-Bazemore is a true actress. This lady took us back to the silent era of film. She beautifully led this film in silence and captivated the audience with no dialog. That's not an easy task to do. Crystal illustrates many levels of emotions and energies in this film, I can see why she won 9 Best Actress awards on the film festival circuit. To be able to exhibit a multi-layered emotional performance shows us this actress took time to train and study the silent film era while using her God-given talents to bring this film to life.

Secondly, the locations and soundtrack are also characters in this film. This short film was so well thought out and put together, it makes me smile to know that I am now friends with these talented people.

Lastly, please comment and share this project with everyone you know. I'm proud to say that this film deserved all the accolades it has received.
