The Hunt for Veerappan not only captures the pursuit of a criminal but also paints a vivid portrait of a woman whose life has been intertwined with his. While the documentary’s sole responsibility is to portray the life of India’s most notorious criminal, Veerappan, at the heart of the storytelling is the compelling portrayal of Veerappan’s loyal wife, Muthulakshmi. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the documentary’s ability to present Muthulakshmi’s story in such a nuanced and empathetic manner made the series a compelling one and a standout among Netflix’s collection of documentaries.
Through a series of interviews and narratives, the documentary skillfully navigates Muthulakshmi’s journey alongside her husband. Her character is a captivating study in contrasts, showcasing a range of emotions and experiences. From standing by her husband steadfastly through thick and thin to silently nursing her own grievances when their relationship grew distant,...

Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, one of Netflix’s most recent offerings is a compelling Indian documentary titled The Hunt for Veerappan. This four-part documentary series emerges as a captivating exploration of one of India’s most notorious criminals, Veerappan. However, this documentary goes beyond a mere exposé of Veerappan’s criminal exploits and adeptly serves as a mirror, projecting back to the audience the intricate dynamics at play among law enforcement tactics, societal tensions, and the delicate equilibrium between criminal activity and the quest for justice. The series goes beyond Veerappan’s life to reveal how different factors influence law and order. Selvaraj’s skilled direction prompts us to think about the bigger consequences and ethical questions that emerge when society seeks revenge against criminals. This documentary shows the strength of storytelling, exposing both the grim aspects of humanity and the intricate challenges in the ongoing battle between crime and justice.

Lisa Ray is one celebrity actor who needs to be quoted when it comes to the terms like ageless beauty, a fighter, an inspiration and the hottest diva ever. The Indo-Canadian actor made her Bollywood debut in 2001, with ‘Kasoor’ opposite Aftab Shivdasani. Although her acting career didn’t do much wonders for her but her ‘Style Diva’ image surely turns tables.

Neerja followed it up with a 75 crore+ achievement at the Box Office and suddenly, ‘biopic’ was the buzz word for Bollywood. The maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who never ceases to be in the news for his controversial tweets or statements, has now said on record that he shares only a professional relationship with the Bachchan family (and nothing else). In the same interview, Rgv said that he did not share a close personal bond with the Bachchans and that his relationship with them was purely professional. He added that they (the Bachchans family) never called him for Holi party or anything to that effect. Rgv also 'clarified' because he and Amitabh Bachchan work a lot with each other, it is assumed that they shared a close bond. On the film front, Ram Gopal Varma, whose dacoit drama Veerappan had released last week, is busy with two more films. While the first one is Rai which stars Vivek Oberoi in the main lead, the second one is Sarkar 3 (which is...

There is something about Ram Gopal Varma’s tireless spirit that gets to you. His new Hindi film, his first in three years, is a frenetic frenzied near-hysterical take on the brutal life of the jungle outlaw Veerappan who, apparently, could kill with an impunity that made mass murder a political issue.
To his credit Rgv has done his homework well. There is enough evidence here to convince us that Veerappan was a dangerous psychotic socio-political outcast who deserved to get the death that he finally did. The dark brooding earthy atmosphere created in the film adds to the feeling of dread.
This is no country for the sensitive. And if you are the kind who visits the cinema for emotional release Veerappan is not your thing.

We all know that the maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is now all set to release Veerappan, which happens to be is the Hindi version of his Kannada film Killing Veerappan. While making the film, Ram Gopal Varma did extensive research on the dreaded Veerappan, who operated from Bandipur forest.
The cops who were instrumental in Veerappan's encounter, apparently helped Ram Gopal Varma with some of the information. That's why Ram Gopal Varma has now decided to show them the movie first, prior to its release in theatres.
Veerappan stars Sandeep Bhardwaj in the title role, along with Usha Jadhav, Lisa Ray and Sachiin Joshi (who also happens to be the film's producer). The film is slated to release on May 27.

Ram Gopal Varma's keenly anticipated Veerappan has been granted an 'A' certificate by the Censor Board with a few minor changes. One key scene that has been chopped off involves Sandeep Bhardwaj (who essays the title role) when he says that Ltte chief Prabhakaran had killed Rajiv Gandhi. Bollywood Hungama spoke to writer director Ram Gopal Varma who said that he tried to reason out with the Censor Board officials that the Supreme Court judgement in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case had clearly named Prabhakaran as the key conspirator so if Veerappan says that in the film then it won't be something new. "The Censor Board officials told me that some Tamil groups may create problems with Veerappan mentioning Prabhakaran as Rajiv Gandhi's killer so we relented," Mr Varma said. Rgv also confirmed one more scene that has been slightly altered involving the killing of an infant. "The...

Producer-actor Sachiin Joshi and director Ram Gopal Varma are thrilled to have received a clearance from the Censors with an 'Adults' certificate. The Censor Board asked for only two major cuts. Says a source, "They asked for a scene showing Veerappan killing his baby, to be toned down. The shot of the baby being battered on a rock was asked to be removed and replaced by appropriate music." All references to V Prabhakaran, the Ltte chief have been asked to remove. Says the source, "Even here, the Board members were easy on Ramu's film. After Shoojit Sircar's Madras Cafe, all references to the Ltte chief have been put on the Censors' extra-caution list. There were a lot of protests from Tamil groups about Parabhakaran in Madras Cafe. However, the Censor Board was again, very accommodating with Veerappan. They only asked a line about the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi to be modified.

Lisa Ray who will be seen in a never-before avatar in Ram Gopal Varma's Veerappan suffered a leg injury during the shooting of the film. Not that it dampened her adventurous spirit. This is the first time she is working with the prolific director and is understandably excited. Says Lisa, "I've been a fan of Rgv's work for a long time. When he narrated the story of Veerappan and explained my role, there was no doubt at all about doing the film. And working with Rgv was a dream-come-true, and unique. He was so clear about each and every scene and shot that I could relax into the role." I trusted him completely and that's very important for an actor. I also loved working with Usha Jadhav- her talent and story is so inspiring- and Sachiin who was a big support on the set- especially when I broke my toe.

Fourteen years after Eesha Koppikar sizzled in 'Khallaas' in Ram Gopal Varma's gangster thriller Company, the filmmaker is gearing up to recreate the special number for his Veerappan biopic. The plot of Ram Gopal Varma's Veerappan covers Asia's biggest manhunt in history, the hunt for Koose Muniswamy Veerappan, also known as bandit Veerappan. While the 2002 film featured Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi and Manisha Koirala, the biopic has Sandeep Bharadwaj in the titular character, and Lisa Ray. Zareen Khan, who made waves with her bold turn in Hate Story 3, steps into Eesha's shoes for the song. "The lyrics, 'Bachke tu rehna re... Nahin duja mauka milega sambhalna,' literally hint at Darwin's 'survival of the fittest' theory. Now the lyrics have been reworked to 'Khallas Veerappan', but its spirit remains the same, with a sexy Zareen dancing in the forest", states Rgv while talking about the recreated track.

Earlier we had reported that Ram Gopal Varma's next venture Veerappan would be clashing with his protege Anurag Kashyap's film Raman Raghav 2.0 at the box office on May 27. However, now we hear that the latter has postponed the release of his film that will now release on June 24. Kashyap, who was mentored by Rgv and has written films like Satya and others, before he moved on and created a niche for himself. The two filmmakers have publicly shared a love-hate relationship ever since. The two have also suffered from box-office failures in the recent past. Looking at their present situation, both the filmmakers in desperate need of box office hits. After Bombay Velvet, Anurag Kashyap is all geared for his upcoming film Raman Raghav 2.0, which is based on the infamous serial killer. While on one hand, Rgv's next is also based on a dark character, the infamous Indian dacoit Veerappan.

Ram Gopal Varma gave Anurag Kashyap his first big break in Hindi cinema. They worked together as director-writer on several projects before finally falling apart. Kashyap spoke up freely and repeatedly about the creative corruption of Rgv. Tables were turned last year when Ramu got a chance to make a barrage of sarcastic digs at Kashyap for Bombay Velvet. With no love lost between Ramu and his former protegee, it would seem as though the best policy for them would be stay as far apart as possible. Fate, alas, willed otherwise. On May 27 Ram Gopal Varma's comeback to Hindi cinema Veerappan will clash at the box office with Anurag Kashyap's Raghav Raman 2.0. Interestingly, both are bio-pics of dreaded outlaws and cold blooded killers. Ram Gopal Varma never fails to make news. This time round, it's for a good reason. After releasing the trailer of his latest film Veerappan and announcing Rai, the maverick film maker has now confirmed that he is making Sarkar 3 with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. Amitabh Bachchan recently he said that when he had visited Ram Gopal Varma at his new office (named 'Company'), Sarkar 3 was amongst the many things that they spoke about. Besides that, he did not say anything. On the other hand, Rgv stated that he was very excited about the film as for him, Sarkar 3 was as an opportunity to redeem, reinvent and redefine him. Ram Gopal Varma has left Hyderabad which was his home for the last four years. He has now returned to Mumbai, "for good", say sources. In fact Ramu has built a brand new state-of-the-art office for himself in one of Mumbai's most centrally located business areas. The office boasts of some of the most advanced interior equipment and reportedly cost Rs 15 crores to decorate. Ram Gopal Varma has named his new office 'Company'. He earlier owned an office named 'Factory.' Ramu returns to Mumbai after completing 6 Telugu films since 2013. Says a source close to the director, "Ramu kept away from Mumbai to avoid all the flak he was getting for making repetitive films. He spent 4 years re-charging his batteries in Hyderabad. Now he is back in Mumbai. He has already completed the entire shooting of a Hindi film Veerappan starring Lisa Ray. He plans to make a sequel to Company.
