Bill Kenwright, the prolific West End producer behind the hit musicals Blood Brothers, Whistle Down the Wind and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat who would later go on to become an owner and chairman of his boyhood soccer club Everton, has died. He was 78.
In a statement, Everton said Kenwright died peacefully, “surrounded by his family and loved ones.” This month, the Premier League club revealed that Kenwright had recently undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his liver.
“The world of British theatre without Bill Kenwright seems impossible,” said fellow theater impresario Cameron Mackintosh in a statement on X. “In my lifetime, there has never been anyone like Bill. He’s totally irreplaceable, and we will miss him so.”

Taylor Sheridan's grip on the small screen shows no signs of slowing down.
Paramount+ has officially renewed Mayor of Kingstown for Season 3.
The news broke Wednesday, almost six months after the Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 finale.
While the renewal announcement took a long time, series star Jeremy Renner hinted at the show securing a pickup back in May.
He shared a photo of his character, accompanied with the following caption:
"Might be time to start mental preparation for 3?"
The renewal decision must have been made long ago, given that we're in the middle of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Renewal was a no-brainer because it's hard to imagine Paramount+ parting ways with any project from Sheridan, the creator of the hit Yellowstone franchise.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 didn't exactly end with a resolution, but there is an element of unpredictability regarding renewal decisions, thanks to the strikes.

Last Friday, it was announced that Prime Video’s comedy series, “A League of Their Own,” was canceled. That’s nothing too crazy, at first glance, right? Shows get canceled all the time, especially in this era of streamers cutting expenses. However, much like what Netflix did with “Glow” and what Prime Video also recently did with “Peripheral,” ‘League’ was canceled after a second season (though shortened) was already ordered.

The Peripheral and A League of Their Own had both been renewed for second seasons, but it was announced today that both shows have been cancelled.
The Peripheral is a sci-fi drama based on William Gibson’s 2014 book of the same name that stars Chloe Grace Moretz as Flynne Fisher, a young woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. The series cost a whopping $175 million and didn’t hold audiences as much as Amazon had hoped, but it was nonetheless renewed for a shortened second season earlier this year. The ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have been cited as the reason behind the cancellation.

Despite doing well in its first season, Prime Video has sadly reversed its renewal of The Peripheral.
The change of heart likely stemmed from the dual strikes occurring across the industry.
The series starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fischer, a woman who discovered a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.
What is one of the first of likely many strike-related cancellations, The Peripheral seemed to fare well on the streamer.
Each week, Twitter would be abuzz with theories and praise for the show, especially for the performances from Moretz and one of the lead antagonists, played by T'Nia Miller.
With the WGA on strike for over 100 days and SAG-AFTRA on strike for over a month, we expect there to be many similar cases of reversals when it comes to renewed series that hadn't already begun production.

Exclusive: Prime Video will not be going forward with the previously ordered second season of its sci-fi drama series The Peripheral, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Deadline has learned.
I hear The Peripheral is not the only Amazon scripted series whose renewal has been rescinded and there is at least one other series that won’t go to a second season.
According to sources, the cancellation stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA strike, now in its 109th day, and the SAG-AFTRA strike, in Day 36, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
While this is the first known case of a renewal reversal amid the current strike, as Deadline reported earlier this week, there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day,...

Take a look at new images of actress Chloë Grace Moretz, star of the science fiction TV series “The Peripheral”, posing for the clunky-looking "Louis Vuitton Lv Archlight 2.0" sneakers:
“…’in 'Peripheral', 'Flynne Fisher’ (Moretz) ives in the rural American South, working at the local 3D printing shop, while earning much needed extra money playing VR games for rich people.
"One night she dons a headset and finds herself in futuristic London — a sleek and mysterious world, alluringly different from her own hardscrabble existence. But this isn’t like any game she’s ever played before: Flynne begins to realize it isn’t virtual reality … it’s real.
“Someone in London, seventy years in the future, has found a way to open a door to Flynne’s world. And as utterly beguiling as London is … it’s also dangerous.

Ahead of Horror Channel’s UK TV Premiere of Peripheral, director Paul Hyett talks about directorial ambitions, twisted technology, and why aliens aren’t interested in us.
How did you become attached to Peripheral?
The producer Craig Touhy and I had been friends for a while and we’d nearly done another movie together. He’d liked the claustrophobia and tension of The Seasoning House so we met up to discuss Peripheral. When he pitched it to me, very much a low budget, contained movie, in one apartment. I must say I was a little hesitant. I wanted to broaden my directing and do bigger scope. Craig persuaded me to at least read it. I did and loved the script. The story, the character of Bobbi, of this writer blocked, being forced to adjust to what is wanted of her, and having to succumb to a technology that ultimately fucks...

To celebrate the release of Peripheral, which is out now in the UK on select digital services, we sat down with the film’s star Hannah Arterton to uncover the secrets of this new sci-fi mind-bender.
We all have a differing opinion of technology and our relationships with devices, the internet and beyond, and director Paul Hyett’s new film looks deep into the divisive nature of it all with this twisty, tense, and prevalent new film. Arterton plays Bobbi, a writer who is about to start her second book after the first caused shockwaves through the nation, even inciting riots. Faced with “second-album syndrome”, her publishers offer her help in the form of a cutting-edge editing system that will help her crack the code.
However, with such tools means less control and Arterton chatted to us about the film’s look at loneliness and isolation – something we can all...

Ahead of the digital release, on August 3rd, of his latest film Peripheral, director Paul Hyett talks about the importance of creative freedom, the lockdown and future projects…
Peripheral is your fourth feature as director. When you started on The Seasoning House back in 2011, did you ever imagine your career would be this successful?
Back when I decided I wanted to make my own movie I had my prosthetics company and was doing very well, but I really wanted to tell my own stories. I said to myself, get The Seasoning House made, see if it’s any good. If it’s a success then I would close my workshop and concentrate on directing. When it was selected as opening film for FrightFest 2012, I was elated and decided to go that path. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have directed four films and never would have thought that would happen.
