Until this year, "Road House" was one of a handful of '80s action classics that hadn't gotten the reboot treatment, but a new movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal is about to change that. "Road House" 2.0 hits Prime Video in March, but fans can get a taste of the new movie's action now thanks to its just-released first trailer. Can Gyllenhaal match Patrick Swayze's sense of swagger, or will he blaze his own trail as a different version of the cool and collected bouncer who made the original an unlikely hit?
It's hard to tell from this initial two and a half minute first look whether or not this reboot will justify its own existence, but at first blush, the movie certainly seems to have a lot going for it. "The Bourne Identity" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" director Doug Liman is behind the camera here for the first time...

Just when we thought the Prison Break franchise was over, it sounds like we're getting another series.
Deadline reported this week that Hulu has put a "new incarnation" of the hit drama into development.
Prison Break first aired on Fox in 2005 before being canceled in 2009 after four seasons.
However, Fox aired a limited series revival in 2017 that brought back the show's key players, including Wentworth Miller, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Dominic Purcell.
The next chapter, Deadline notes, is expected to be an entirely new concept but will still take place in the universe of the original series.
Given how Prison Break Season 5 ended, that's probably an excellent idea.
If you watch Prison Break online, you know fans were left upset by the end of the show's original run, which seemingly sealed Michael Scofield's fate.
The ending didn't sit well with fans, and for good reason: It was never supposed to be the end.

Ángel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer's "Blue Beetle" (check out our review here) may not have been a box office success, but the latest venture from DC Studios and one of the last films of the DC Cinematic Universe before James Gunn and Peter Safran revamp the studio is thankfully one of the most fun. Not to mention, it's also one of the rare instances where a superhero movie embraces cultural specificity, instead of just perpetuating the same ol' white stories over and over again. If you've yet to see the film, here's what to expect.

The Best Comedy Series Casting Emmy category is one where repeat wins should generally not be expected, since the only show to achieve that feat in well over a decade was “Veep” in 2016 and 2017. Most of Gold Derby’s participating users seem to have kept this in mind while making their 2023 Emmy picks, given that former casting winners “Ted Lasso” (2021) and “Abbott Elementary” (2022) are trailing new shows “The Bear” and “Jury Duty” in the current race. However, there is still no obvious consensus among them as to which freshman series will actually take the gold.
The final slot in this year’s comedy casting lineup is filled by “Only Murders in the Building,” which, like “Abbott Elementary,” was first recognized here last year. After 2000, 2007, and 2021, this is only the fourth time that every nominated show in this category consists of no more than three seasons. In addition to “Ted Lasso,...

As FX’s Mayans M.C. wraps its final season tonight, Deadline has your exclusive look at the penultimate day of filming in Santa Clarita, California.
As the sets were being broken down to make way for a new production in the future, series co-creator Elgin James celebrated Crew Appreciation Day alongside stars J.D. Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Carla Baratta, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, J.R. Bourne, Edward James Olmos, Gino Vento, Emily Tosta, Andrew Jacobs and Alex Barone. Maverick James who played Maverick Reyes, son of Adelita (Baratta) and Angel (Cardenas), was also part of the celebration as was Baratta’s son Diego who was inside her belly during the show’s second season and was worked into the storyline.
For the festivities, the grounds were colorfully decorated and food trucks were serving the hungry and excited masses. Pardo and Rivera hosted a raffle giving away kuttes from both Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the series finale of FX’s Mayans M.C. titled “Slow to Bleed Fair Son.”
On tonight’s episode of Mayans M.C. titled “Slow to Bleed Fair Son,” the biker gang whose origins date back to Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy and later expanded into its own spinoff series takes its last ride—and it’s messy as hell.
Without El Padrino Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) at the helm of the club, it was only a matter of time before the whole thing exploded into chaos. After being ousted by former prospect turned president Ez Reyes (Jd Pardo) in Season 4, it took some time for Alvarez to figure out what his life would look like in a post-Mayans world. As the founding member of the charter, Alvarez struggled but discovered in the finale ever so clearly that he is where...

When you watch a series for so long, there usually comes a point where things grow stale and get predictable.
Mayans M.C. was never one of those shows.
Launching years after the conclusion of Sons of Anarchy meant there were certain expectations, and the series successfully carved out its own identity to deliver one of the most brutal shows on TV.
It all ended with Mayans M.C. Season 5 Episode 10, which I'm surprised to say was a near-perfect series finale.
It's hard not to have certain expectations when watching a series/franchise end, but "Slow to Bleed Fair Son" covered all the bases to bring this story to a close.
E.Z.'s journey across five seasons has been one of the best-developed arcs on the small screen, with Jd Pardo embodying this man who found himself making decision after decision to benefit other people.
Ultimately, though, the truth about E.

FX’s Mayans M.C. season five episode 10 – the series finale – is, hands down, the best episode of the entire series. Amid all the blood and deaths, questions are answered, and dues are stamped paid. Not every character deserves their fate, but every death is, in its own way, justified.
Sons of Anarchy was Hamlet with motorcycles. Mayans M.C. is also a Shakespearean tragedy, complete with betrayals, love, loyalty, and murder.
Season five episode 10, “Slow to Bleed Fair Son,” begins with confirmation that Felipe has died. His funeral is the opening scene, with Angel (Clayton Cardenas) holding Maverick and Ez (Jd Pardo) solemnly staring straight ahead as “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord” is sung.

FX’s “Mayans M.C.” is a tough, violent, and unflinching portrait of a Southern California motorcycle club fighting a bloody war to protect its territory. Yet it’s also a show filled with moments of subtlety and tenderness, in which the repercussions of violence for both the victim and the perpetrator are thoughtfully and powerfully considered. The balance between the harsh and the poignant that characterizes the show has been there from the beginning, but since Elgin James took over as sole showrunner in Season 3, the show has grown steadily deeper and more visceral, reaching its artistic peak in its fifth and final season, which ends July 19.
One of the key contributors to the evolution of the series’ tone and visual style is director of photography Vanessa Joy Smith, who was a camera operator on the first two seasons and then stepped into the role of cinematographer for the remainder of the show’s run.

How do you wrap up a series like Mayans M.C.?
We'll find out soon because Mayans M.C. Season 5 Episode 10 marks the end of the series.
Based on the official promo released by FX, it will be a devastating fight to the finish line for everyone involved.
E.Z. and Angel's bond will be tested like never before in the aftermath of their father's death.
Yes, it seems the tease at the end of Mayans M.C. Season 5 Episode 9 wasn't a fluke:
Felipe Reyes is dead.
The development undoubtedly serves as a sobering moment for the Reyes brothers, who have been so devoted to the fight to stay alive.
E.Z.'s relationship with his father was in an irreparable state for a long time, primarily buoyed by E.Z.'s inability to separate his allegiance to the Mayans.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, despite being a show about macho biker guys, “Mayans M.C.” has some of the most layered and interesting female characters on TV right now. And perhaps no character exemplifies that more than Emily, played by the wonderful Sarah Bolger. And in this episode of Templo Talk: A Mayans M.C. Podcast, we discuss the newest, penultimate episode of the FX drama and also get the chance to speak with Bolger about the complicated life of Emily Galindo.

Well, that's one way to set up the series finale.
On Mayans M.C. Season 5 Episode 9, E.Z. Reyes was served up a nice dose of food for thought as he tried to come to terms with the pressure of being the person leading a gang.
Obviously, someone familiar to fans would show up on the road to help him out of this pickle, but my jaw hit the floor when Sons of Anarchy's Drea de Matteo returned as Wendy Case.
After nine years, de Matteo slipped back into the role like a glove as Wendy helped E.Z. understand that the people in his life would never understand his machinations if he doesn't let them in.
If you watch Mayans M.C. online, you know E.Z. has been straddling the fine line between good and evil, something that's been eating away at Sofia because she's felt a lack of connection with her boyfriend.

FX Mayans M.C. season five episode nine – the series’ penultimate episode – serves up one of the most devastating deaths of its entire run…thus far. No one is safe as Ez continues to wage war with the Sons of Anarchy.
Episode nine, “I Must Go in Now For the Fog is Rising,” begins with Bottles (Alex Barone) and Guero (Andrew Jacobs) silent as they ride back to town in the back of a stranger’s pickup truck. Witnessing the destruction of Santo Padre’s cookhouse at the Broken Saints ranch weighs heavy on their minds as they head back to the clubhouse.
Sofia (Andrea Cortés) wakes and leaves Ez (Jd Pardo) in bed with Sally when suddenly Sally barks in alarm. Ez grabs his gun, responding to pounding on his door.

Jaime Reyes faces off against villain Conrad Carapax aka The Indestructible Man in the final trailer to “Blue Beetle,” released Tuesday.
Landing in theaters Aug. 18, “Cobra Kai” breakout and fan favorite Xolo Maridueña stars in the title role of Jaime Reyes in “Blue Beetle,” DC Studios’ first superhero movie centered on a Latino character.
Carapax is a humanoid-insectoid creature with a tough exoskeleton that gives him incredible strength and durability. Carapax has the ability to generate powerful energy blasts from his hands, which he uses to devastating effect in battle. He is also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and strategist, making him a dangerous opponent for Jaime.
Previously, the film’s first trailer captured Reyes’ transformation from a daydreaming teenager to an unexpected hero with great responsibility. Maridueña previously described “Blue Beetle” as a combination of both a DC and Marvel superhero.

One of the unique aspects of how showrunner Elgin James crafts “Mayans M.C.” is the way he allows his actors to explore other creative ventures within the series. Danny Pino and Jd Pardo have both directed episodes of the series. Now, actor Vincent Vargas has transitioned to a writer for an episode. Not just any episode either, but one of the final episodes of the series and the emotional crescendo for his own character, Gilly.

One of the brightest spots of Mayans M.C. Season 5 has been the bond between Letty and Hope.
Despite the odds, they've somehow managed to thrive and survive the most harrowing encounters.
Their luck ran out on Mayans M.C. Season 5 Episode 8, and it's heartbreaking to see this bond come to such a violent conclusion.
They were bonded by the grief of Coco's death and carved out this unbreakable bond, but it was only a matter of time before the perils of their world ruined everything.
Letty's mission to unearth all of the secrets of the Broken Saints to trade for Hope's life was grueling.
On the one hand, she was ruining the lives of all these women, but on the other, she could save Hope's life -- or so she thought.
Isaac has proven to be one of the most despicable characters in TV history, and that's no easy feat...

Still haven’t recovered from FX’s Mayans M.C. season five episode seven? Neither have I. But buckle up because episode eight – “Her Blacks Crackle and Drag” – doesn’t let up. But, most importantly, the episode’s explosive ending might spell the end of Ez’s short reign over the prisons.

Guero’s justifiably worried after killing Oakland’s president in cold blood, which forced Bishop to take out the VP. But Downer assures him the club knows why he did it. It wasn’t a smart move,...

FX’s Mayans M.C. season five episode seven says goodbye to two major, longtime players as we head into the final stretch of episodes. The body count explodes in episode seven, with Emily finally getting her hands bloody instead of calling on Ez to do her dirty work, and a Santo Padre associate is taken out after being labeled the club’s rat. Plus, Ibarra’s son finally exacts his revenge at the most inopportune time.
But it’s the gut-wrenching deaths of two key Mayans M.C. characters that make episode seven so heartbreaking.
Plenty of spoilers ahead…you’ve been warned!

E.Z. Reyes is playing a dangerous game, but after Mayans M.C. Season 5 Episode 7, the same could be said for everyone who survived the bloodiest installment yet.
E.Z.'s rule has been called into question several times since he usurped Bishop to become the leader of the Santo Padre charter.
Love or hate him: He always finds a way to bounce back when the odds are stacked against him.
With three episodes left, I wonder when his luck will run out. I mean, it has to.
Then again, having his luck run out would probably be too similar to the conclusion of Sons of Anarchy.
The thought of Mayans M.C. ending on the same sad note as Sons of Anarchy doesn't spark joy, but what else can we expect from a universe that pits people against each other?
We'll start with Creeper's death because, even though we knew it was coming,...

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from tonight’s episode of FX’s Mayans M.C. titled “To Fear of Death, I Eat the Stars.”
With just three episodes left of FX’s Mayans M.C., the Reaper is working overtime slaying more fan-favorite characters following the brutal killing of original Sons of Anarchy character Happy Lowman (David Labrava) last week.
This will be more of a true post-mortem than a recap because co-creator Elgin James decided to kill off two important characters tonight in the episode titled “The Fear of Death, I Eat Stars.” We could be mad they’re gone but this is the world they chose to live and they lived it hard. Do not fool yourself into thinking anyone is safe at this point in the game—not even anyone at the top of the call sheet.
Hank (Frankie Loyal) is safe this week,...

Gillian Anderson has been cast in Netflix’s Western drama series “The Abandons” from creator Kurt Sutter.
Anderson will play Constance, the matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family who doubled the mining fortune she inherited from her husband. Her wealth, charm and power allowed her to forge relationships with political allies despite their town’s patriarchal bias.
The official Netflix logline for the show reads, “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, ‘justice’ is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law. ‘The Abandons’ will explore that fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets,...

It says a lot about a character when she’s surrounded by macho biker guys who regularly get in fights and kill people and somehow she’s still the most fierce, scariest person there. But that’s how you can describe Adelita, aka Louisa, on “Mayans M.C.” She’s a rebel leader and a killer, but she’s also a caring mother and protector. And in this episode of Templo Talk: A Mayans M.C. Podcast, Carla Baratta, who plays Adelita, joins the show to talk about the final season of the FX series and what makes her character one of the most interesting in the ensemble cast.
