Well-acted, simply plotted drama runs out of gas at the end

Warning: Spoilers
This fourth edition in Sweet Sinner's ongoing "Mother Exchange" series (sort of a heterosexual answer to rival Girlfriends Films' endless "Mother/Daughter Exchange Club" saga) gets lousy ratings on the SS website in its feedback from subscribers. I think the reason why is that director James Avalon and his talented co-writer Melissa Monet muff the ending of the film after some promising earlier twists and turns.

Conflict is generated by a fine villainess essayed by Mercedes Carrera, far more effective here than in her series of bad-girl roles recently for the lesbian video specialists Mills & Stills.

WATCH OUT FOR THEM SPOILERS:

Mercedes is an old pal (long since estranged) of star Ariella Ferrera, and seeks to hoodwink the newly widowed lady after the sudden passing of hubby Steven St. Croix. Box cover synopsis gives away the relevant facts, but not having read it I was surprised at the film's structure of an idyllic first couple of reels as Ariella and Steve enjoy each other's company without a care in the world, and execute a very naturalistic sex scene in bed.

Suddenly she's in mourning along with son Logan Pierce. They're left in the lurch in rough financial straits by the death of the bread-winner, and Mercedes nastily moves in for the kill -making a condolence call in which she offers $200 K for a house worth over $500 K.

The plot thickens satisfyingly from there, with a somewhat novel twist of both of Mercedes' grown-up kids Chad Alva and Casey Calvert whipping into action against their mom, siding with Ariella and using their sexual wiles to mess up Mercedes' schemes. Seductions are rampant (and often less than convincing, but the pot must be kept boiling) and all hands perform sexily to measure.

But the finale truly stinks. Avalon is a craftsman and has plenty of quality movies left in him 20 years into his porn career, but for some reason he dropped the ball. My theory is that unlike the Real World such as mainstream Television where you have networks, show runners and a room full of Writers hashing out what story arcs and submitted scripts are acceptable or contrarily need to be whipped into shape, pornographers are just like independent filmmakers -they tend to crank it out rather than ponder. That's why such a high percentage of indie films are unwatchable (clearly in need of another dozen re-writes) and why story porn gets a bad rap compared to "all-sex" porn where no content is called for.

To put it bluntly, Monet and Avalon leave out all the crucial scenes, brief though they might have been, which would have rounded out the story and given Mercedes her proper comeuppance. Instead after the final money shot by Chad on her ample breasts, Ariella says "Send your mom my regards". Not much impact there.
