Pot Patsy
jeroduptown22 June 2022
It's a solid performance about an older pot grower that's edged out of the business when it becomes legal. It's also a sad story about what it would be like to be at the age of retirement and trying to remain relevant in the pot world.

Unique premise, good movie . . . but the ending.
foster-dickson6 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As a person who has gotten bored with love stories, family dramas, and hero-action films, I'm always looking for good movies that aren't any of those. And this was one. An aging hippie who has grown pot for more than thirty years is edged out of the business when the trade is legalized. The acting was good, the story was believable and interesting . . . But the ending- there basically wasn't one. It's like they didn't know what do next, so they gave up and rolled the credits.

Krisha Fairchild shines!!!
li090442615 March 2022
The most important elements of this film are Krisha Fairchild and the landscape. The film traces the trajectory of an aging artisan in the illegal and manual cultivation of cannabis against the technology, bureaucracy of today's world. And she begins to understand that her world is still in the past and that she needs to face modernity. Poor script but great performances by the rest of the crew.

The stressful life of a shiftless pothead
drjacobgrayson9 January 2022
Imagine the injustice of having your business shut down just because you don't pay taxes, have a business license, building permits, or safety protocols. Why, you might actually have to get a job! This movie embodies the unthinkable hardships of Northern California hippies.

This is nothing else than a big piece of crap.

Not worth spending any minute on it, because crappy story, crappy producer, crap acting...

If you wanna spend over 1h of your life watching some old hag, that cultivates and consumes weed than this is the perfect movie for you ;)

Pitch-perfect unravelling of a fading community
NutshellProds28 November 2021
Subtle but searing performance by Krisha Fairchild. Loved the woven in archival footage and the attention to detail throughout. One of the first "weed films" that both completely inhabits and transcends its underground setting. The filmmakers did their research and fully immersed in a community not often centered on screen.

Great Film! Best and most accurate depiction of the cannabis world I've ever seen. Beautiful cinematography and the locations are just stunning. This film was clearly lovingly done.

Unintended consequences

Super interesting and unexpected take on how legalization can effect illegal pot farming. The film lovingly highlights Humboldt County and captures the spirit of how modernity has crept and then suddenly sprung on a quiet, hidden world.

Krisha is worth the price of admission in this beautifully shot and acted film. Incredible soundtrack adds to the haunting beauty of Humboldt County. Highly recommend!

Hypnotic!
akira-hideyo28 December 2021
A new strain of slow burn narrative movie making-all guns smoking, all puns intended. This role was custom rolled for Krista. She's like a mature Sharon Stone in her golden girls years. Whole movie was buzzing well and mellowed into a chilled finale ending of self realization and just accepting that all as just is.

True North

After a deep appreciation of her performance in "Krisha'" when I read that Krisha Fairchild would be headlining this film, I expected greatness. I was not disappointed. I eschew most movies today as sensationalist and visceral in a shallow way, but truly enjoy the deeply honest and soulful handling by Mario Furloni and Kate McLean of a story of the passing of the halcyon days of illegal marijuana farming in Northern California (filmed on location) . Really a must on your watch list if you love quit films that still sink deep in your bones and live in your heart.

Required Viewing
wralphrobbins19 November 2020
FREELAND should be required viewing for any government official in a State contemplating the legalization of cannabis. Every high and low of Devi's character is completely and competently expressed by the superb Krisha Fairchild, leading the cast of exceptional actors. You feel you've known people like them, may have even been one of them. The cinematography will transport you from grand scenes of natural beauty to cramped working quarters during one growing season. You'll grow along with it.

Krishna Fairchild turns in an electrifying performance as Devi in this well crafted drama that ends in a surprising way. The themes of the film resonate and the supporting performances and cinematography are outstanding. Well worth a watch

Do Not Miss!! This is a mainstream movie.

-From the first note of music, I knew I was in for an E Ticket ride. The main character, I felt, WAS THE perfect actress for this part. The cinematography, THE CINEMATOGRAPHY !!!!! Such stunning landscape to the point of unreal. And EVERY person in that cast was perfect for their role. The music was beautifully forebodying leading into desperation. And the script itself made me weep in some scenes and laugh, of course, but also? Just 60's, early 70's+ flashbacks, wonderful times, am so glad that was MY generation.

Must See Movie
nagarrick28 November 2021
Freeland is a compelling story that is well written and beautifully captured by the actors. It's a credible and authentic depiction of the cannabis world through one woman's perspective. The cinematography is beautiful.
