A high school secretary in Gallup, New Mexico, was killed in the Sunday mass shooting in Las Vegas that claimed at least 58 lives and injured at least 515 people.
Lisa Romero, who worked at Miyamura High School, was a “happy-go-lucky person,” her cousin Ashley told the Huffington Post.
“She loved her kids and husband. And for this to happen so senselessly. It’s a heartbreaking day for us all,” she said.
Another cousin of Romero’s, Paul Romero, told the Washington Post that the two grew up together.
“She was a very down-to-earth person, she was a very sweet person,” he said.

Meet Ben Payne and Ashley Martin. The former is a studious journalist departing from Salt Lake City airport to attend a medical conference, though severe weather conditions force him to take the road (flightpath?) less traveled and board a dinky charter plane. He isn’t the only one, as Ashley is also eager to return home to reunite with her fiancé. The two strangers then find themselves crammed into a small aircraft, but tragedy strikes when their pilot suffers a heart attack mid-flight, bringing their plane crashing down into the icy High Uintas Wilderness.
And that’s where The Mountain Between Us gets going in earnest. Charles Martin’s 2011 page-turner was hailed as a touching story of two strangers forced into a desperate life-or-death situation, one that is as much about the emotional journey as it is the literal pilgrimage that Ben and Ashley must endure.

Late last week, two surfer bros — one apparently named Chad Kroeger (yup, same as the lead singer of Nickelback) and the other apparently named Bodhi — addressed the San Clemente, California city council and requested a 12-foot-tall statue of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker be erected on the city's pier. I'll pause for a second to let you soak in all of the glorious aspects of that sentence.
It's technically unclear whether this is a prank (I'm pretty sure it's a prank), but these Fast fans have actually made this same plea to a city council in Burbank, California as well, so it seems they won't stop until somehow, somewhere, a 12-foot statue of Paul Walker looks out over a city and unites us all in "gnarly times."
There's video at the bottom of the page, but if you don't feel like watching, LAist has transcribed it for us:
What up Council,...
