When Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, the folks at The Asylum quickly put together a mockbuster called Ape vs. Monster, which featured a giant chimpanzee battling a giant Gila monster (after both creatures were enlarged by consuming a mysterious substance leaking from a space capsule). A sequel called Ape vs. Mecha Ape followed in 2023. Now the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is in theatres, and The Asylum will be giving their mockbuster Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order a digital and theatrical release this Friday, April 5th. In anticipation of the release, a trailer has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order has been written and directed by Marc Gottlieb, who previously directed Ape vs. Mecha Ape and the 1995 comedy Cousin Howard. Gottlieb’s other writing credits include Planet of the Sharks,...

It had to happen didn’t it. First we had Zombeavers, then Zoombies and its sequel and now the zombie plague hits sea life with Aquarium of the Dead – the latest undead horror from The Asylum. Of course, given this an Asylum release, the timing couldn’t be more perfect – after all once you’ve seen an Army of the Dead you’re going to want to see an aquarium full of them too right?!
Glenn Miller, director of the aforementioned Zoombies films is back behind the camera for this fishy tale, which comes from a story by Michael Varrati (who also co-wrote the excellent Tales of Poe...

[Note: With the film finally releasing on DVD in the UK, here’s a reposting of our Fast and Fierce: Death Race review from its US VOD release earlier this year]
What’s that? A racing film from The Asylum? By any chance was the release of Fast and Fierce: Death Race supposed to coincide with the debut of the new Fast & Furious movie? Thankfully for The Asylum they don’t have to worry about cinematic release windows being closed due to the global pandemic and instead can plow forward with their release hitting the market Before the blockbuster this film seeks to emulate ever sees the light of day! But will the gamble pay off? Can a mockbuster stand on its own two feet without a Hollywood film to hand its hook on?...

Woah woah woah… 6 heads? Last time I took a look at this franchise the shark only had three heads! Ok, so a jokes a joke but a 6-headed shark seriously? Plus, whatever happened to the four-headed version? It seems The Asylum went from three heads to five without a thought for a four-headed version, but then sharks have pretty big foreheads already don’t they? [insert noticeable groan here]. Though you’ve seen nothing until you’ve seen a six headed shark… which is this case looks like a grey starfish with a tail!
It seems that after helming the first two entries in the series Christopher Olen Ray has abandoned the series and, after a trip to both...

In the future, 98% of the Earth is covered by water and the only land is controlled by a warlord and his army of sharks. Humans are kept as food for the sharks until two friends risk their lives – one of whom is a “shark caller” with a supernatural ability to talk to sharks Fyi(!) – to rise against their captor and his legion of sharks.
Hold on, hold on… So we have a world covered in water. What water there is happens to be over run by sharks. And people live on floating islands, a la Waterworld, to survive. Errr, haven’t we seen this before? I think so! In fact,...

Well it had to happen didn’t it? We’ve had sharks of every kind from The Asylum and the Syfy channel: Zombie Sharks, Ghost Sharks, Swamp Sharks, Ice Sharks… Now we have and Entire Planet of sharks!
In the near future, glacial melting has covered 98% of earth’s landmass. Sharks have flourished, eating all underwater life. They now dominate the planet, operating as one massive school led by a terrifyingly greedy mutated alpha-shark. The only human survivors live in terror of the predators, and it s up to them and them alone, to take down the gigantic leader shark and make the seas safe again.
Well, well. What a surprise Planet of the Sharks turned out to be.
