The heart's lone desire.
Sleepin_Dragon12 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Dorothea offers Quill free will, to get it she has to ensure Charlie uses the cabinet of Souls to defeat the carnivorous petals. April and Ram are transported to the world of Corakinus, to defeat him.

Some of the scenes between April and Ram are cheesy beyond belief, their dialogue is ludicrous, transported to a new world for the first time they start chatting about community. We're on episode five, and this is the third encounter with the Shadow Kin, it's a little too much.

I disagree with some of the reviews that slate the acting, it isn't bad generally. Polly Quesnel has definitely added something to the show, lots of charisma, dare I say Missy style.

The Special effects are the highlight of the episode, some truly brilliant effects and an imaginative world for the Shadow kin. The petals story is really intriguing, quite grizzly.

Pretty good 7/10

April faces off against the Shadow King
TheDonaldofDoom12 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm glad I carried on watching Class after its awful first episode as it has slowly improved, getting more and more interesting with more and more complex plots. This episode juggles two story lines, one involving the Shadow King and the other involving killer petals. They then come together cleverly at the end.

The Shadow King storyline is the weaker one. April and Ram's actors are good enough (especially the actress who plays April) but the CGI alien world is quite unoriginal and lacks a creative quality that would make it more memorable. It's sort of just a generic rocky lava-world with a fortress. The Shadow Kin don't make an impression either, their King looks like he belongs in a cheap sci-fi show on CBBC. The battle between April and the Shadow King is a bit ridiculous too, even though she shares some of his characteristics it's far-fetched that she'd be able to survive longer than five seconds fighting him. Still, it takes an emotional turn as April and Ram's parents get involved.

Back on Earth, there's a brilliant new threat, the arrival of killer petals that keep multiplying. There are some unsettling Torchwood-like deaths are people are smothered by the petals. It's the first time Class has delivered a truly great, scary monster. It leads to some great moments with Quill, Charlie and his boyfriend as he's faced with a big choice. The only thing that lets it down is Tanya's TERRIBLE acting, I mean she couldn't act for her life. Everything that comes out of her mouth is said in a tone that has convinced me she doesn't know how to act. It's like she's trying to make it sound sarcastically funny or something, but it doesn't work.

The two story lines come together in a satisfying way, and I like how April is such a strong character who is able to command the Shadow King to destroy the petals. My only gripe is that the stakes weren't high enough at the time, there could have been shots of the petals spreading everywhere and starting to kill a lot of people, until April saves the day just in time. There would've been more tension.

This episode isn't without flaws but it impressed me the most out of all the episodes so far. I give a 7.5/10, just about rounding to an 8.

The series continues in its failed attempt to appeal to teenagers
davidrain-8616012 November 2016
Throughout this whole frankly disappointing series, the writers have tried very hard to make it appeal to teenagers. This episode especially tries to be "down to earth" and "streetwise" in its attempt to be relatable for teenagers, but its just incredibly cringy.

In no case is it clearer than when, talking about Lord of the Rings, they call it "some old movie my dad likes". I'm sorry, but teenagers don't view Lord of the Rings as an old movie that only parents like. That's stupid, and just one of many annoying cases where this series fails to be realistic with regards to teenagers.

This episode was just as terrible as most of the other ones. A series with lots of potential has been ruined.

Brave-ish Heart
Prismark1030 January 2017
Ram joins April in the other world to battle the Shadow King but he is no match for April and shows little of a warrior's heart. Of course now April and Ram's parents know of their offspring's other worldly activities and also join together to help out.

On Earth there is an outbreak of killer petals multiplying and the new headmistress Dorothea tries to befriend a distrustful Miss Quill and wants Charlie to use his box of tricks to stop the petals.

It is a busy episode but not an exciting one and also was too uneven. The Shadow King is too easily defeated. I liked the threatening mention of the governors by Dorothea, I think they have an interest in Charlie's box more than increasing education standards.
