Doubting if Dwight will get rescued even if the impending Royalist landing succeeds, Ross and captain Henshawe mobilize their own Cornish miners party to join them for a separate raid on the prison. Drake joins them in a suicidal mood after Morwenna told him to stay away, feeling forced to finally accept wedding reverend Ossie Whitworth to avert impatient George's wrath on her and Ross's families. Ross manages to intrude Quimper prison and drag away Dwight, who is disheartened by more pointless executions, but an overenthusiastic youngster crying escape alerts the whole garrison. They still escape with only one fatal casualty, Henshawe. George planned to discredit Ross's political ambitions and bid for parliament himself at a society party by denouncing Ross's foolhardy venture, but Dwight's rescued 'apprentice' lieutenant is no lesser then host Lord Falmouth's kin Hugh Armitage.
