A failure from almost every perspective

Warning: Spoilers
This film here (cannot say the title again or imdb won't approve of the review), which literally translated means something along the lines of "**** You, Snow White" is a German movie from 2018 that runs for slightly under 90 minutes and was directed and co-written by Cüneyt Kaya, his most recent effort. I watched his film Ummah a few years ago and that one was pretty decent, so I am shocked how bad this one here turned out to be. But yeah, of course it also has a lot to do with the cast and its talent of course in both scenarios. Still, it is pretty embarrassing to see how many writers worked on this one and how weak it all turned out. Problems already start with the title, obviously a very cheap attempt to cash in at least at some of the gigantic financial success these (also not particularly good) FJG films have had here in Germany in recent years. This also tells you how much individual creativity you can expect here. But there are more problem, for example Bülent Ceylan playing the main part. It is not unusual for German comedians to appear in films as the main character. Atze Schröder has done it. Mario Barth has done it (with Paul Panzer). Kurt Krömer has done it. Oliver Pocher has done it etc. But there is one connection between all of these. Their approach to comedy is rather for very simple people I would say gently speaking and their acting talent is very very limited. You can make a compelling case for their comedic talent and there may be a reason why thousands of people want to see their shows, but as for their acting and range *sigh* But that is not the only problem here. I already mentioned the script earlier. And what is particularly shocking is that really seriously trained actors are not doing a better job than Ceylan for example. The best example here is Josefine Preuß. I admittedly never thought particularly highly of her in the first place, but what she does here is just painfully embarrassing. Kaya got some at least semi-talented actors here for the project, people he worked with on Ummah already too like Kida Khodr Ramadan and Burak Yigit, who are both not too bad, but their characters have so little screen time that it is really impossible to make any kind of impact. It's also not surprising that with Ceylan at the center of it, there are more Turkish actors than you'd normally expect in a German film and I don't think that is a problem at all because there are more than enough talented German/Turkish actors out there, but most of these in here clearly won't make an impact. Karadeniz is the best example. Maybe he is better in other projects, but all he does here is have other character play his body fat like an instrument and sorry no that is not funny by any means. I wish I could say anything positive here, but really nothing comes to mind. Maybe that the film is not offensive or violent in a bad way or anything, just really stupid and unrealistic. It's not even a missed opportunity, it was always clear this would be a failure. You can also say thanks to minor embarrassing performances by Sabrina Setlur, Tom Gerhardt (shame whatg he became really), Bernhard Brink (that was him right?), EKO Fresh and Chris Tall. Hardly any of these characters made sense and it felt virtually impossible to take any of these seriously as actually existing people in here. Sure you can say this film never had the intention to be taken seriously in the first place and just wanted to aim for being pointless fun, but it's never fun either, just pointless. At least some realism and character depth would have been needed. You won't find it in here. Luckily it was a relatively short full feature film. A definite contender for worst German film of 2018 and that means quite something as German film may have some great additions from last year, but also a whole lot of very amateurish stuff. Why oh why Bülent? The only thing that could have made this worse would have been him playing the characters from his comedy shows. I think he is funniest when not in costume. And certainly when not in character after what we saw here. Highly highly not recommended.

Snow White this isn't

I did not know anything about this movie before I started watching it - apart from the title that is and the fact this is a comedy. I also think I recognize the main actor as a standup comedian. Though I don't really know many of them, so I may be wrong with that.

Just letting you know, where I stand since some may be more familiar with him. I did recognize some of the other actors and some rappers too. The movie tries its best and I don't mean that in a bad way. Surely some will like its humor and its mellow tone and silly comedy. It is quite predictable, but the characters are likeable (mostly that is) and the actors are good too. This may just float your boat, if you're in the mood for it
