Amelie meets Dark
aleursic2 March 2021
Light-hearted, overall cute movie. But yeah, it was impossible not to think of this as a kind of German Amelie, and the similarity with Dark came to mind after a few minutes too... there's even the same kid actor.

Wonderful fairy tale/treasure hunt with great video art
supermaggie22 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you want to watch a modern/contemporary treasure hunt with fairy tale elements and great video art, you do not have to watch the Europeans-hostile Indiana Jones, you can watch Cleo - a really fine movie with the most wonderful Marleen Lohse - known for her work in the great show "Nord bei Nordwest" alongside Hinnerk Schoenemann - who has the appearance of some kind of magic fairy herself. You can also learn something about Berlin's history (including the contemporary problem of German cities suffering from the ongoing danger of bombs from the allied forces who threw recklessly masses of them on the civilian population causing great harm up until now). If I were to criticize something, I would have chosen a different actor than Jeremy Mockridge, he didn't work for me at all as the male counterpart, and I do not agree that Berlin is the (only) city with a soul, I think it is the opposite, there are many great welcoming, warm (big) cities (with soul) in Germany, Berlin is just an ugly, grey, chaotic moloch to me (much history and art, yes, but not friendly and warm). Therefore one star less. Otherwise a wonderful tale/movie, atmosphere-wise a bit like Tykwer's The Princess and the warrior.

the best thing that ever came out of Berlin: PAUL
emartin-556058 November 2022
I witnessed this example of a perfect film for the first time this year and i thought to myself HOW have i not heard about this masterpiece. It had everything you could possibly wish for in a movie humor, action and PAUL never have i ever seen so fine a man PAUL had it all intelligence , respectfullness, humor, good looks, and romance i caught myself thinking back and wishing that i could hop on a plane to berlin and row down the river in his run down boat just me and him together FOREVER . NOW my one complaint is that IT WASNT LONG ENOUGH . I would recomend this to anyone and it disgusts me that someone gave it 1 star or anything less than 10 stars . I wish hell on them and their families.

Warning: Spoilers
Cringe deluxe. The Germans managed to ripoff Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie...twenty years later and not remotely as chatting charming as the original...
