Pretty good.
invisibleunicornninja18 March 2019
Before I get into what I thought of the show, I'd like to let fans of the show know that this is a prequel to the show. For the most part it has nothing to do with the show itself, except that this is about how the world of games was created.

On its own though, I'd say that this movie is pretty good. The beginning is a bit messy, but once it gets everything sorted out, the overall story is good. The animation is pretty great, along with the voice acting and characters. This movie as a whole isn't great, but it has a lot of redeeming qualities and I would recommend it.

Totally bonkers

Insane story and characters. This thing is creative, weird, and fun to watch. Even so, very little about this movie makes any real sense. Not bad, but I couldn't call this movie great.

Absolutely amazing and a must watch
adamlaswell22 November 2018
No game no life: zero takes place 6,000 years ago in the midst of the "eternal war" where 15 gods all thought that they were the one true god. What the gods do to determine the one true god is try to kill each other. Each god created a different and somehow unique race. There are dwarves, fairies, elves, flugels, humans, warebeasts, etc. The gods gather their armies and go to war. The 2 main protagonists are Riku who is a human fighting in the war and Schwi who is an ex-machina who separated herself from the system to learn about the human heart and emotions. I say that this is a must watch because it really made me feel for the characters and I was also very entertained. The ngnl anime series was where all conflicts were solved with games. The reason for that is because this eternal war was so violent and horrific that the last god remaining had to ban all acts of violence. So I like the change from happy go lucky characters with not much to worry about to people who are aware that they could die at any moment. The fight scenes are amazing and the it also really pulls on your heartstrings. I love this movie to death and I recommend that you watch it. Watch the series first if you haven't seen that because it pretty much requires you to have at least some knowledge about the world that it takes place.

better if you read the light novel
fletcherjoshua-131565 March 2018
Pros fun characters mostly good pacing great cinematography and directing cons too many time jumps leading to a rushed romance the main story didn't need to be included and would've had a greater impact without it

if your a no game no life fan its great to watch although we may never get season 2 and this sort of makes up for it, kinda like rubbing alcohol in a wound it helps but hurts as well

One of the best movie I have ever seen
jorentoding2 March 2021
No Game No Life: Zero, is a movie that is adapted from the popular light novel created by Yuu Kamiya, named No game no life which published in April 25, 2012, which also have ten volume in total (right now), or more precisely it is the adaptation from volume 6 of the light novel, No game No life. The movie is directed by Atsuko Ishizuka.

The movie take place, 6000 years before the main time line, in the midst of war, between 15 Gods, to find out who is the "True God". In this movie, it explored many concepts, that just makes the story more interesting. The world building in this whole movie is amazing, with the short time of 2 hour, they expand the world and the history, culture in this world, while also, progressing with the main story, without the viewer even knowing, which is amazing. Also, with just approximately 2 hours, they have made an amazing, and captivating cast, full of character that you can somewhat relate too, and the character development in the movie was so amazing, as you can see the character grow from the first time you met these characters and how much they have developed since then. The story flow is so nice. The animation of the movie is also outstanding, and so captivating. Also, I personally think that, the movie has something special, it is difficult to write, but I guess it is so captivating and moving that when the character feels stress, anger, sadness, joy, the viewer also feels it, and I think that not many movies could do that to viewer. The OST/ soundtrack of the movie is also outstanding.

This was an absolute roller coaster of emotion in this movie, and I absolutely loved it and would watch this move again. I recommend this move to anyone, but more over I recommend this to the people who have watch the series, No Game No Life and I would personally suggest people that haven't watch the movie should watch the TV show, named No game No life first then comeback to this movie because it will make more sense.

Typical over-dramatic anime
Snootz29 March 2018
What starts out and maintains as a highly-interesting anime, devolves in the last 15 minutes to typical anime over-dramatic cliche. The concept is fantastic-- ten super-powers all vying for an all-powerful prize. It contains story, plot, relationships, heroism, intrigue, mystery... and then plop, drops it all in a typical bucket of soliloquy self-indulgence. It leads well into the series and explains some things, but for a significant amount of time near the end I found myself yawning and wondering if they were ever going to get on with things and conclude the story. We see this mechanism all too often in such presentations-- throwing all they've built up to that point out the window for excessive drama and angst. Typical and disappointing-- a fatal flaw in an otherwise brilliant story.

Best film of all time
quentb1 November 2019
Words escape me when it comes to this film. I can't think of a better film than the one I am reviewing right now. If you were to ask me what I like about this film, I would talk for hours and hours. I can't think of one thing I didn't like about it. In my eyes it's perfect. The jokes are funny, the animation is breathtaking, the characters feel like real people and are super fun, and the story (while a bit confusing on the first viewing) is fun and very intriguing. This film will make you feel both happy, sad, and hopeful. The message of the movie is so mature and important and is handled so well. I love everything about this movie. I highly recommend it. I love this movie, and I hope you give it a chance and love it too.

They give you the meaning of life...
gricarm17 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
If you've watch the No Game No Life (2014), then you should have no doubt why I would give No Game No life : Zero 10 rating point. Well, this movie will bring back to the past, which is pretty sadistic in my opinion, when the Eternal War happened among the Gods which want to be the one true of God. But, to win it, someone have to pay the prize!

Riku, human who fight to survive with his allies, try to end this war which is impossible for them to win while it cost lot of lives. Until he meet the Ex-Machina, which is a robot that want to learn about heart. Guess who is it? I bet you know it. Well, I'll tell no more about the plot of this movie (because I want you to watch it) but there is one thing that I found this movie leave a deep feeling inside me, which is:

There's no boundary of love. At last they are together in the past life as a husband and wife although for just a little time.

But one thing remain unanswered is - will there be No Game No Life Season 2?

If you are one of No Game No Life fan, do support them (by watching the movie to your nearest cinema). Because, the game is still ongoing.

My god....what a film!
Neos_back25 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is the most satisfying anime film I've seen in years! The feels... the feels are real, damn those Onion Cutting Ninjas!

I will start by saying unless you watch No Game No Life (anime) first you will have no idea whats going on. To be honest I had no idea what was going on for the first half, but when it got started, my GOD did it get started! When Riku gets the glint in his eyes... sh*t got real! From 1 to 999999 in 0 seconds flat!

The story, and you have to watch it all the way through, was slow to start but beautifully executed. This has to be only of the only anime recently that actually requires a brain to think about things. The plot, is a fantastic story of the birth of "Imanity" and their triumph in the face of insurmountable odds.

From the movie, its clear that Sora & Shiro are a reincarnated Schwi & Riku - Japan is the land of Buddhism, in Buddhism the belief is reincarnation after death. So the one true God, Tet the God of Games, pulled these two back into his world to finish his game and he was "defeated", thanks to Riku's last prayer (to play again, but this time they could win). Also when speaking to Izuna Hatsuse (cat girl) he only refers to "those two" and not Sora & Shiro by name.

This wont be for everyone, I can understand why some wouldn't "get it"... but if you liked No Game No Life, you will love this. Great story, beautiful artwork and just a magnificent film all round.

You fooled
arthemisamy14 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You're fooled by person that rate this movie 1-5. Why? Because this anime too good to be true. Too low to be at 100/10 ratings. It's 1000/10 stars

"Schuvi is just a single ex-machina, and no need to be sad because she's just a robot and every creature in that world can "re-alive" her after the explotion. And Riku? Oh no need to be sad because we can reboot robot and get her forget about that white-head monkey." -- that's not a reason to said that her love story is cliché. To think that a robot can crying and begging for her life because her beloved person is waiting, oh my-

Feel it with your heart, not your brain. Brain function is to think, not to feel a beat of a life.

Emotional rollercoaster about the most badass duo.
LopousIMDb1 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I have waited probably a year to watch this movie finally, and no big surprise was a fantastic movie with a ton of great lore and characters.

The movie sets itself back in time around 6000 years ago, where everyone was in a war, and it rained this ash that could kill the Humans. The Ex-Machina destroyed the home of our main character Riku as he was a child. Riku managed to survive somehow after a massive explosion.

Years past by and a ton of his friends died, they blamed himself every time whenever they died and was quite emotional towards the death of his great friends that trust them with their life.

Riku then later on the movie found the Ex-Machina that destroyed his home and was shocked. She invited him to play a game of chess, which didn't show who won, but as we can assume that the Ex-Machina won. The Ex-Machina then joined Riku and wanted to know about "hear" and what makes the humans keep going even though they lost so much. Riku of course later ask the Ex-Machina for its name, and she is called Üc207Pr4f57t9, he asks again, and some names pop up and eventually she is known as Shuvi.

Fast forward in the movie: Riku and Shuvi make a bond that won't be quickly forgotten, while Shivu slowly learns about the human heart, Riku goes on his knees and proposes to Shivu. Shivu declines at first as she thinks it is impossible that a human and an Ex-Machina can stay together forever and be married. She further goes to say she destroyed his home, she did everything- yet Riku says something around the lines of that her past doesn't matter. She being here now and being with him in the future is what matters most to him, so he puts the ring and once more asks "Will you marry me?" she accepts, and they get married, which really beautiful. They would be known as Riku & Shuvi Dola, which is the last name of Corone- which is Stephanie's ancestor.

Then here we're at the end of the movie where everything matters, our main characters Riku & Shivu played around against the races and took them to the center to get the ultimate device, this is where the movie and everything gets emotional and sad, Riku is exhausted and tired of everything so far. Riku finally gets "a day off" as before Riku falls asleep he said how happy he met Shivu and how much he loves her. Riku falls asleep, and Shivu decides to go alone- outside. When we see Jibril go out and fight 1 on 1 against Shivu, where she says that Jibril wants Shivu's head as she's adorable.

Shivu warns Jibril, and she doesn't listen and where they fight in a largely heated battle where Shivu does her best to survive and live. When she was about to be beaten, she calls to the creator that Riku has completed her quest to know about the human heart, and as she is dying, the creator first declines then Shivu hesitates and explain her discovery. This gets accepted, and she gets in her super machina form where she battles Jibril as she got some seconds to live with this form. Jibril blasts her and defeats Shivu, Shivu is heavily damaged and barely fight back. She is lying there hopeless as she does one last thing before Jibril destroys her and that is sent Riku her wedding ring.

Riku realizes this and wakes up that Shivu is nowhere to be found and she has indeed died. He is completely lost and sad- he is broken and can give up once for a moment. He just lost the reason of him keep going of him keep fighting. Without that he doesn't know what to do anymore. Then one of the more advanced Ex-Machina arrives to give him the ring and Riku decides to give it one last go.

The plan has just started the giant bombs, and magic in one center make the ultimate device appear as Riku is about to grab it he can't manage to grab it as he gets mad over how many people died over gaining this device. Soon he attempts to take out his hand to take it, he slowly disappears and dies. He makes one last knee and prays to the god of games. He prays, and the god of games appears in front of him and makes his prayer come true.

Shivu's death and Riku's last stand was the saddest part of the movie, and I'd say this movie is pretty damn good and worth a shot. I think you should watch this movie as this movie is about the two most bad ass married couple who fought against the chance in a game.

The credit song was as well beautiful, I have to say there is no bonus scenes so you don't have to sit through the credit, but if you wish to listen to the beatiful voice then be my guest.

What this is even about?
gacsogergely19 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
During the first 20 minutes it already feels dragged.

You also get loredump without meaning. Dwarves. A-bombs. Some demonic race. Whatnot. Did I mention before they blow up the world and Matrix the sky the world is already blown up, and the sky is already Matrixed?

IF you watched the series you might decipher the context for this thing, which is well drawn at least, but otherwise don't bother.

It went too fast in deed but,
seonilson27 April 2018
I think it balanced not to be too explanatory while keep trying to persuade whats the context characters are staying in. It is true that one should know about some of the worldview of the original novel, but, just reading the wiki page it will work. I think it reached another level compared to TVA or original novel. Totally worth watching.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time!
TheGreatGreenBadger16 February 2020
This is my favorite anime movie, and it goes well with the amazing series. If I could compare this to a movie series, it would be the Rogue One of the No Game No Life Series! Dark and heartbreaking, this is a must watch for any otaku, young or old. Sora and Shiro, the protagonists of the series, are mirrored in Riku and Shuvi. In this heart-wrenching movie, we find out about the origins of Disboard and why Imanity, considered the weakest of the Exceed, is in fact the smartest and the one that conquered the world.

It was actually good
vampiresrule3475 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The story itself was really good. It provided background to Tet and the creation of games. This movie was also sad, at first I didn't really see the point. By the end of the movie it hit me. I still think it would've been better to continue and end the series before creating a movie like this but hey, I'm not the author. It was also weird learning about Schwi and Riku considering they're technically Sora and his sister. Their romance made it weird because I do not consider her loli I considered her a child. Just like it was weird in the main series were Shiro was in compromising ecchi situations. However, when you get passed all of that and look at the bigger picture this movie is great, it complimented the end of the first season. This movie could've also been a prologue/stand alone film. I kind of see why this series was hyped. I don't know if it's returning, but I think it should. We are at the climax and i think this series deserves a conclusion. Thanks.

I actually watched this on Netflix before watching the series and found it enough of a distraction with enough novel variations on classic tropes I couldn't "not" watch the series.

Misses the Mark
peterfmodel12 August 2019
The TV-Series was excellent and I highly recommend it, but the movie is very different. Much darker and a lot less fun than the TV-Series. The story itself is very simple and if you have watched the TV-series you will know how it ends very quickly. I must admit the final fight is very emotional and it is well worth a watch. I would strongly recommend watching the TV-Series first.

No Game No Life:Zero is unexpectedly different from the anime series No Game No Life where games were the core of the series. Instead, this movie brings us action-packed, and emotion-filled story to explain the beginning of the world.

Definitely a must-watch!

Why You Should Watch No Game No Life: Zero - A Prequel That Surpasses the Original Anime Series
UchihaShahin11 July 2023
No Game No Life: Zero is a movie that serves as a prequel to the No Game No Life anime series. Released in 2017, it tells the story of the past, giving the audience insight into how the world of Disboard came to be, and how the great war between the races destroyed the world. The movie has a different tone compared to the anime series, as it is darker and more serious in nature. However, it still retains the same charm and wit that made the anime series so popular. In this review, I will be discussing the movie in detail, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.

The movie begins by introducing us to Riku Dola, the leader of the human race in Disboard. Riku is shown to be a determined and intelligent young man, who wants to save his race from the brink of extinction. He believes that the key to survival lies in discovering the secrets of the world, which are guarded by the old gods. Riku's journey takes him to the library of the gods, where he meets Schwi, an Ex-Machina, who is also on a quest for knowledge.

Schwi is a unique character in the No Game No Life universe, as she is the only Ex-Machina who possesses emotions. She is curious about the human race and wants to learn more about them. Schwi and Riku form an unlikely bond, as they work together to unravel the mysteries of the world. Their relationship is one of the highlights of the movie, as it shows how two individuals from different races can work together to achieve a common goal.

The movie's plot revolves around the great war that took place in Disboard 6000 years ago. The war was fought between the different races, who were vying for control of the world. The movie shows how the war came to be, and how it ultimately led to the downfall of the world. The war is depicted in a very realistic and brutal manner, which highlights the true horrors of war. The movie does not shy away from showing the death and destruction that the war caused, which adds to the overall realism of the movie.

The animation in the movie is stunning, and it is one of the movie's biggest strengths. The attention to detail is impressive, and the movie is a visual treat. The colors are vibrant and add to the overall atmosphere of the movie. The action scenes are well choreographed, and they are a joy to watch. The animation style used in the movie is different from the anime series, as it is more realistic and less vibrant. However, it still retains the same charm and whimsy that the anime series is known for.

The movie's soundtrack is also noteworthy, as it adds to the overall atmosphere of the movie. The music is epic and emotional, and it perfectly captures the tone of the movie. The voice acting is also impressive, with the voice actors bringing their characters to life.

One of the movie's weaknesses is its pacing. The movie is slow in parts, and it takes some time for the plot to pick up. The movie is also quite dark, which may not appeal to some viewers who prefer the lighter tone of the anime series. However, the darker tone is necessary for the movie's plot, and it adds to the overall atmosphere of the movie.

Another weakness of the movie is its lack of character development. While Riku and Schwi are well-developed characters, the other characters are not given enough screen time to develop fully. This is particularly true for the other races, who are only given a brief introduction before they are thrust into the war. The lack of character development may make it difficult for viewers to connect with the characters on an emotional level.

In conclusion, No Game No Life: Zero is a must-watch for fans of the anime.

Confusing as hell
ryo4ever9 August 2020
There's too much lore going on. I've watched the series and kind went along with the story but this thing is a mess. It felt more like 6 episodes stuck together for a movie. All the characters are way too emotional and overly dramatic. What's with the weird robot-philia fantasy. The German words. It's so ridiculous! Even the climax was unintelligible. Where are all the plain revenge killing anime these days.
