Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a delight in this silly film
kumarvarun198910 September 2016
The first thing that strikes you when Freaky Ali begins is what an odd- bod collective this enterprise appears to be: to have Nawazuddin Siddiqui play the lead is a masterstroke, but to have Seema Biswas play his mother? Like, really? This apparent randomness wouldn't have been such a deterrent if the plot had some meat to it because Nawaz is quite capable of carrying a film on his own. But within a few minutes, we know that it is a David-Goliath clash between a 'sadak-chaap' fellow and a suited-booted character. The novelty of it being played out on a golf course dissipates in a few rounds, and it becomes the usual 'tamasha' between goons and good 'uns, and haves and have-nots, its good-natured daftness drowning in silliness. There's a 'message' that's dinned in to us via Nawaz's 'ordinary' man. That no one, even a guy who hawks undergarments at a road-side stall, is worthy of contempt. That golf may be seen as a sport for the wealthy, but there's no stopping anyone from becoming a champion. All you need is skill. And will. The poor vs rich clash is set up for laughs, and we are amused to begin with, but then the amusement dries up.The one person who keeps us watching is Nawaz, who busily shakes a leg and romances a pretty girl (Amy The one person who keeps us watching is Nawaz, who busily shakes a leg and romances a pretty girl (Amy Jackson), when he is not sinking a hole- in-one much to the consternation of his wealthy rival (Jas Arora). His connect with the audience is instant, and he keeps it going with wry one-liners which he delivers with consummate ease. It's also nice to see him in a light-hearted role : except perhaps for his blundering TV reporter in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, who is a hoot, he has been condemned to dark, twisted turns in dark, twisted flicks. In addition, to see him command the screen in a solo turn is a delight : he is our first true subaltern 'hero' who has moved from the fringes to claim the centre.

Could have been an awesome story
jkt200612 September 2016
Sohail khan, the director has wasted the entire effort in a movie which could have turned into a great movie. The movie began with a great promise, but after the first half moves so pathetically towards an unbelievable run of the mill, rather worse than it climax and ending. Why would you believe in praying for him to win when the main character's hand is broken before the final match, than focusing on getting him to practice etc. His personal know how and understanding of the game is undermined with the prayer song. Also, a great actor like Seema Biswas is totally wasted in the mother's role with hardly anything to do. Sohail Khan and his brigade of brothers are better off making the kind of crappy stuff they usually churn out. They should stick to their usual formulas rather than raise hopes with a new kind of story line and with a brilliant actor like Nawazuddin who has been wasted too.

NAWAZ JUST SAVED THE KHANS...spoilers
pritsadude11 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers.... The movie centers ali(nawaz)who has a great potential of playing golf thru which he aspires to make his moms life easy and happy by eradicating all the problems they are facing..lots pf ups and down thru his golf career..(SPOILERS)BUT with the virtue bollywood movie nawaz becomes the champ by beating the champ.. Nawaz was a gem in the movie with his acting...as no genre of movies is a question for Nawaz... The directions as been expected from the khans was not justified ,with the kind of expectations the masses had after the trailer ..in a nutshell this flick had a grt potential but it coudnt execute way it needed to *I have now started finding better movies through www.flickstree.com. It not only suggests great movies to watch, it also tells where you can watch the movie online.. Highly recommended.*

Stale, half hearted and just obnoxious
amanmadan8510 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
**Generic spoilers on theme of the film**

I've given this movie a rating 1 out of 10. Not many movies deserve to be rated so low...this isn't just me overreacting but simply what a terrible waste of time this movie really is.

Everyone would know what the plot of the movie was going to be, the reason for watching it would be execution and humor. The film fails miserably on both counts. The humor is full of pathetic clichéd Mumbaiya tapori language and dialogues like that one sued to see in 80s and 90s bollywood trash...and it is relentless at that.

Rich snob man, poor guy with great talent...beautiful rich woman falling for a guy who lives in a chawl.

Gone is the era of the colonial hangover where rich were shown as extremely arrogant and snobs and the unrealistic pathetic romanticization Raja Hindustani like situation.

I laughed exactly once during the movie and cringed for most of the time as to how horrible and pedestrian the entire execution was.

First wrong movie choice by Nawazuddin since he became popular.

Please don't waste your money and more importantly time on this movie. Clearly no one worked hard at any aspect of this movie to try and make this movie a good experience for the viewers.

Second Half should not have been made
kapilpokhrel610 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
What a good start, but the second half, it looks like, as if the movie was directed by eight year old kid. Sorry Sohail Khan, it's not up to the mark, you have already directed few movies, you are repeating the same mistakes, childish direction, unnecessary emotional dramas. Some of the scenes were so unnecessary, who does the bowling in that way? The love affair, Does that really happen? Do you really need a female lead? Lead is a wrong word here, even Amy should have No. I feel you had a decent concept, funny lines, really good actor and acting by Nawazuddin, he is the one who holds the movie. Please improve direction and whatever is on the second half, it's not called script.

On the whole, First half 7 out of 10, Second Half 1 out of 10.

Freakish Film
dineshprakash9 September 2016
Direction is notably bad. Not a single scene has been shot in interesting way. I don't think that I will take chance to watch another film of this director. Trailer was promising but film comes as delusion. I appreciate the team behind the trailer. Story by director is simple. A good for nothing guy, having some extra merit to hit the cricket ball in air at any fixed place, established in just four balls. He meets with an idiotic extortion gang member after praying at 'Mazar' for work. Then he accidentally plays golf and surprises a coach by his unique ability to shot the ball. Then his journey begins of being a champion. Rich golf champion guy mocks him, then some match fixing angle, physical assault and final match with broken arm, victory with the help of 'Kawwali'. It is in the name of story. Screenplay is simplest and stretched. That 'Chaddi' selling scene could have been very crisp and interesting but it's too long with a stammering fat boy and his father angle too. Movie is full of such type of lengthy scenes. Dialogues by Raaj Shandilya are only good thing which at least make you smile at places but it also go overboard like screenplay most of the time. Makers thought that everyone is well versed with golf so they decide half an hour long climax based on golf match, which is very slow and irritating. Major drawback of any film based on game if you fail to hook audience in game and what is unfolding on screen. Performance wise only two are good. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Ali is very good. Arvind Parab as kidnapped old person is too good. He holds his character graph in very good manner. Jackie Dada in guest appearance shines. Rest cast are just OK. Is there any female lead, sorry I could not notice.

A Flawed Primer For Golf. ♦ Grade D-
nairtejas10 September 2016
You can't expect much from Sohail Khan, or the whole Khan brigade, at least when it comes to directing or writing films. His latest feature is more like a skit played by a bunch of primary school students for their school's poorly-organized annual gathering.

Ali (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is an orphan who used to work as an undergarment seller and a contract hooligan before realizing that he can play golf like Tiger Woods. Along with his friend and associate Maqsood (Arbaaz Khan), he signs up for a National golf tournament and aims to dethrone Peter (Jas Arora), a vanity-filled top golfer, and make some good money out of it. The story is basically a riches-to- rags one where Ali has to fight odds to come out as an achiever.

One is honestly tired of this setup, which has been sampled millions of times in mostly all kinds of art in the world. But, then, you would think that the makers must have added some good old humor into this concoction so as to make it appealing. Sorry to break it out to you, but neither is there any quality comedy in the narrative nor is the existing any edible. One-line jokes that can be best described as PJs (in Mumbai parlance) are all there is in the story, which is otherwise as banal as its box office competitor's (Baar Baar Dekho).

Siddiqui tries to single-handedly salvage the film, but a ceiling with only one pillar supporting it cannot save itself from a storm. It is upsetting to watch Khan in a role that he himself won't be proud of. Seems Biswas is the only person playing a sensible character in the film, and let me not even start about Nikitin Dheer and foul-mouthed Jackie Shroff. I went to the restroom for few minutes and missed somehow Amy Jackson.

All in all, the show is about a lucky person who just happens to manage some flukes in few games of golf, which is as baffling and enigmatic as the possibility and nature of the romance between Ali and his girlfriend, Megha.

BOTTOM LINE: Sohail Khan's "Freaky Ali" is a film made of zero imagination and creativity. Wait for TV premiere, but do see what's on in Star Gold or &Pictures.

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

Funny and entertaining!
RodrigAndrisan17 October 2017
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is likable and talented and his character is conquering your soul. It is a simple story about a poor habitual man, followed by bad luck, which, due to his skills, becomes a great golfer. Music is really cool. Amy Jackson is a very nice presence. A good Bollywood among so many very bad.

This movie has more holes than a Golf Course!
saddygoops25 September 2016
And you don't need to be "Freaky Ali" to find the holes in this over 2-hr course. And this golf course offers you a very bumpy ride with hurdles appearing ever so often, which made it impossible for me to sit through this mindless gimmick posing as a feel-good-comedy. I'm not certain of the purpose behind roping in Amy Jackson. She comes in as the manager of the antagonist then becomes one to the protagonist, but the only thing she seems to have managed through this film, is her limited screen appearance, so that people forget she was even in this movie. Nawazuddin Siddiqui looks so odd making the shots, in his Polo and pants. Even though the veteran tries to make up for the poor screenplay with his acting skills, not even "Bhai" could save this "Freaky Ali".

Lets make a movie in two weeks kinda Movie
faisalfaves27 November 2016
Movie director is Sohail Khan, previously He directed Auzaar in 1997, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya in 1998, Hello Brother in 1999, Maine Dil Tujhko Diya in 2002 and Jai Ho in 2014. But this Movie is the worst movie of all he directed.

Direction: 3/10

Editing: 3/10

Music: 2/10

Acting:-

Nawazuddin Siddiqui did a nice job, but I missed some of his skills in this movie. 8/10

Arbaaz Khan did his part very nicely. 9/10

And there are many actors who worked in this movie were nice but because of direction, bad background and editing dragged movie to bad ratings.

I hope Sohail Khan's next movie will not be deficient as this one.

A free time movie watch with a comedy type persons. Enjoy

Waste of talent!!
anukoold17 September 2016
The well made trailer of the movie aroused some expectations among the viewers lift their butt and go to cinema hall but all efforts went in vain. Although a copy of Hollywood movie Happy Gilmore( which was success neither) this movie also failed to produce any magic. Fulfilled with star cast like Nawaz and Amy, the weak story line made the movie's sail to submerge down. Coming to direction, Sohail made the good start to movie, but in between it loses the track and seems like it is intentionally stretched like chewing-gum.

Golf was a new plot, which could have been made interesting but weak plot and weaker direction led it to nowhere. In acting Nawaz's talent could have been better utilized. Amy Jackson was just a show-piece, nothing much for her in this. Arbaaz Khan seemed worthless too as a second lead. Rest all just played their part. Coming to songs, nothing special nor catchy.

Verdict : Movie can be watched if you are Nawaz's fan else its a time waste.

Good Entertainer
anasir-6560714 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The comedy is really good, The drama is a bit weak and the director wants to create some emotional scenes but totally failed in doing so, Over all a good time pass with good comedy highlighting the lower level of people and their life along with their point of view seeing the rich people community and their activities including golf, If we can say that the movie is to highlight and increasing interest of normal people into golf then it will not be a false statement, Director actually want to eliminate the Class difference in which he took a support from golf play, If little bit more invested with good romance, more drama and good songs, This movie will be definitely a hit movie

Freaky Ali could have been a good sports film if it had been handled with the required amount of panache and cinematic sense of excellence.
thomaspmathews7011 September 2016
Freaky Ali : Fails to Exploit Nawaz Calibre!

Reviewer's Thumb Mark

Nawazuddin Siddiqui a dependable and a terrific actor struggles hard to keep the film Freaky Ali from sinking by his acts and dialogue delivery. But we know, little can be done by an actor like Nawaz when the plot is weakened with predictable situations, 'rich and poor divide' clichés, rags to riches situations, 8o's kind of a sidekick and goons who are less dreadful and more of buffoons. While watching Freaky Ali one would definitely wonder what would have made Nawaz to sign this film.

Freaky Ali could have been a good sports film if it had been handled with the required amount of panache and cinematic sense of excellence. But unfortunately after watching the movie one can easily gauge that the filmmakers didn't have that kind of vision to offer a class film to the world of entertainment. It seems they just wanted to cash in the rising popularity of Nawazuddin Siddiqui by offering him the titular role of Freaky Ali and Nawaz may not have had any other option but to oblige the 'Khandan' out of love and regard.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the role of Ali a Muslim orphan, found on the steps of a Dargah by a Hindu lady (Seema Biswas) who he calls 'Aaayi' fondly. The film open up to a busy market where Ali is found selling undergarments of all hues. The scene is funny and arouses chuckles in the theatre but soon fades out due to below the belt jokes. Ali thrown out of his job by his shop owner due to some flimsy reasons ends up teaming up with his childhood friend Maqsood (Arbaaz Khan) in his extortion business. Both works for 'Danger Bhai' (Nikitin Dheer) who is accident prone and is more of a buffoon who is always in company of his clumsy and dumb headed cohorts. In one of Ali and Maqsood's extortion bids they happen to meet a golfer Vikram Singh Rathod (Jas Arora) and this chance meeting on the golf ground changes the destiny of Ali. Later, armed and trained by a caddy Kishen Lal (Asif Basra), Ali challenges the champion in many tournaments. What follows is breach of trust, fixing and disappointment on the field. The film fails miserably even after having some best talents in the industry like Seema Biswas, Nawazuddin, and Asif Basra because of its weak story line, very poor execution, disjointed narration and sequences. Amy Jackson as Megha, the manager and love interest of Ali has nothing to do. She doesn't even add the glamour quotient by her presence. Jackie Shroff in his guest appearance as the big baddie is disappointing and unbearable.

This plot of Freaky Ali had the potential to become yet another inspirational sports story if made by any other deft filmmaker and storyteller. In short, there is nothing much to write and appreciate about Freaky Ali except to pray that may good sense prevail in the future projects, if any, by Sohail Khan and his likes in the industry.

Movie Rating: 3/10

nilabhverma14 May 2020
From where to start and what to include? Everything and I mean everything is miserably wrong with this movie. I have never seen Nawazuddin acting ao bad. And it's not only him, everyone acted like hell in this movie. Bad acting, bad dialogues and super bad direction. You will literally laugh seeing Nawaz and Amy as pair.

Sorry excuse of a movie
ujaved0074 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Right, where do I start. I had really high expectations due to Nawazuddin and the funny as hell trailer. However, 10 minutes in the movie and I was already let down by half written dialogues, unfunny lines and painfully long and boring scenes. The direction was particularly bad and it seemed like it was directed by a school boy. Characters were not relatable at all and the villain was just forced on to the viewers. Watch this movie at the expense of your brain cells.

awful Freaky Ali
emcgoomail11 September 2016
This is a disastrous movie, some people is so hyped about it because it has Salman Khan name behind it, who cares!I would rather sit down and watch Donald Trump speech than waste my time watching this boring nonsense. it has no substance, the dialogue is horrendous. Why did they waste their budget making this movie, the money they use to make this movie should've been donated to the poor or to the families of the victims that Salman Khan run over that night. People go and watch Baar Baar Dekho I guaranteed you will enjoy Baar Baar Dekho it is a unique love story. I watched it and I will watch it again. Baar Baar Dekho, Kala Chashma..awesome!

Worst movie ever seen
romeshvsharma11 September 2016
Never gave a thought before buying the tickets because the theatrical was too good. Nawazuddin Siddiqui being in lead roll never clicked about any awfulness. But Nawazuddin has very badly hurt his followers by signing such a movie. I watched this movie just for Nawazuddin. In future I will read the reviews twice before booking a ticket for a Nawazuddin Siddiqui's movie and 100 times for Khan Brothers production. Worst acting by the actor called Peter in the movie. Amy got her act all right in all scenes. Moreover, not a single scene seemed to be directed well throughout the movie. The story was very usual. They just spoiled the golf game. It seemed like people were not interested in watching the 2nd half, there wasn't actually a single scene which someone might have liked in the 2nd half.

Pleasing Watch
indianature19 February 2017
I have recently watched two highly over rated films : Dear Zindagi and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which frankly I found boring and stretched.

Freaky Ali has not got good reviews but it was a darn sight more watchable than the above mentioned 'blockbusters'.

The plot was interesting and I enjoyed Nawazuddin Siddiqui's enactment of his role. He is a fine actor for sure. Even Arbaaz Khan acted quite well as did the rest of the cast.

Freaky Ali does not pretend to be art cinema. It is meant to be an over the top but enjoyable film and enjoyable it certainly was.

When you are watching a film at night, it is nice to have a happy, feel good ending which Freaky Ali does.

Very watchable - and don't blindly go by critic reviews!

A loser and punter who is good at gully cricket goes on to play golf professionally and challenges the current champion
ananth-6669218 September 2016
The first half of this movie does have a couple of cheap laughs - no deep humor, but if you are in the mood for some humor, it wont hurt. You can leave just about an hour into the movie as the story line crumbles and it becomes your usual stereotyped Hindi movie.

If you thought you should have walked out of Vicky Donor in the interval, then you should definitely do the same here.

Recommended: For those who have nothing to do.

Not recommended: For those who have anything else to do - listen to music, read crappy movie blogs, chat with an ex on Facebook; just anything really!

Nice Nawaz, Rubbish Direction and story.
ankitgiri13 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Direction of movie is very poor, Not a single shot is interesting. Movie is unable to bind audiences. Movie starts with a nice promise but next minute it get illogical. If you want to watch the movie you need to left your mind at home. The story is not connected throughout the movie. Creativity is lost somewhere. You will laugh at many shots throughout the movie. Nawaz has obviously done good job but only Nawaz cant make movie hit, rest things are also very necessary. Some shots are like old typical Bollywood movies I hate that. Come on do some creative things please. The movie is waste of money and time. You can watch movie only for Nawaz.

Superb acting by Freaky NAWAZ
umair-4139512 September 2016
i just love the movie specially the freaky ali acting .Nawaz again proved to be the top of his game . Golf is different in the game but still its a fun movie to watch. The first half was excited second was bit normal .

Arbaz acting was bit improved and Amy jackson was looking fabulous as well. love the way she adopted the bollywood style . Whole plant was good over all its better than other slow movies . Good going for nawaz and Arbaz a low budgeted movie but with a lot of work to be done in the next version . I must say a complete family movie some of the characters were not good enough to be good . It was a risk with his type of acting and the way he work . Really impressed with over all cast support Freaky ali character .
