All three of Nic Alexander's director trademarks appear in this film: seagulls, a deck of cards, and a prominence of the color purple.
One of the major props, Jim's truck, was scheduled to arrive on set on the morning of a shoot. Unfortunately, the truck became unavailable and production wasn't notified until that morning. Luckily, the man who owned the bar where they were filming had a spare truck he used for hauling. He let Alexander and his crew have the truck for the rest of filming, even though they had never met before. The truck was a manual, which Alexander didn't know how to drive. Without much of a choice, Alexander accepted the truck and learned how to drive manual that same day, while filming.
There is something red in every scene of the film. The color red is a trademark of cinematographer Evan Parquette.
In the scene where Cole walks up to the guys before work starts, he is centered under a telephone pole shaped like a cross. Cole is the most religious character in the film.
Jim never has his hat on when he is being intimate with Bailey.
