You *know*, within a scene and a half, that this was basically a film student's final assignment. Had I not actually PAID to rent it after being VERY EASILY fooled by what appeared like positive reviews from underground horror critics, I could not have stomached the full hour and a half. The script & characters feel like they were concocted by a twelve year old who just saw Scream for the first time and thought "I could do that!"... and the acting... oh, god the acting.

LAUGHABLY bad performances by the majority of the cast, if not all of them. Predictable from beginning to end, as far as who the killer is and the pecking order of the victims.

The one thing I'll say is I didn't expect any kind of SFX to be successful, and they pulled that off better than anything else.

3.5/10 for actually completing their vision, against quite literally ALL the odds.

I gave it 3 stars for Danny Trejo's part....other than him this movie is not good.

At the moment this movie has 7 reviews. All of those 7 people have only reviewed this movie, and all of them have given it 10/10. Some of the usernames also bear resemblance to one another, and most of the accounts are brand new.

Make of that what you will. This isn't a 10/10 movie.

If you would like an honest review....this movie is terrible... period!!! Bad acting, bad writing, just all around bad

That it. It the same garbage as all the other dumb YA scary in the woods movie.

Music was garbage and forced in certain scenes... Only actor worth watching is the lead. the other actress just screams we gotta fet outta here like 10 times... Trejo is on film for 5 mins... Its sad because I love the lighting and area they shot... Could have been great if not for a shoddy script... terrible dialogue and horrible cringeworthy actors.

Something obviously is dodgy there.

Acting is very amateur and the plot does indeed seem the joyride script of a 12-year old kid who just saw a couple of slasher movies and wants to break in the film industry however when the killer (and his assistant!) are revealed it's a nice unexpected surprise and there is some twist too.

Didn't bore me but certainly not a title I will recommend. 4/10.

It's an average slasher/psycho flick that you will work out fairly quickly who, what and why. The acting is ok but patchy and .the cinematography about what you would expect from a slasher. OK for a lazy day.

It's pretty much all I wanted it to be.

All the actors did good. Watching Catherine Toribio as Celeste was extra fun to me because of her mannerisms at times, which made me go, "What the?" in a way that I like. I like the song choices as well, which is not normal for my experience with these type of slasher flicks. I really like Soledad St. Hilaire as Nana. The last half of the third act, I found done quite well.

Ending kept me wondering. All in all, I really dig it!

Any movie with latan babes is a good one. Also any movie with these three actors : Danny Trejo , Eric Roberts and Nicolas Cage , As a guest star is a winner!

The twist ending wasn't so surprising but this was as I read someone described as a fun old fashioned horror movie. I felt the character building was good and the scares were 'jumpy". The girl fight was realistic and added a bit of comedy to the tension. I very much enjoyed this movie.

José Julián Bad acting at its finest. BTW do all These young actors go to the same acting school that teaches " no, no ,no, no" it's in most of these B movies that are poorly made.

Go back to acting and writing school. The movies coming out of Hollywood are mostly B fast tracked to meet a certain criteria and pushed out to the public to watch.

Creativity is gone and no one has an imagination enough to create something special, different and worthy for the public to spend time watching.

These writers can learn from the greats like Alfred Hitchcock. Let the audience imagine what's coming next, without you, having to show them all the blood and guts..

Murder in the Woods is the type of film that can create that feeling between itself and the audience watching. It is a strange mix of cinematic magic and unrealistic psychobabble. Luis Iga is an up-and-coming Mexican-American director. He had already hit success with his ground-breaking Magdalena short and his semi-autobiographIcal short titled Love Burns, where he was at his most experimental. From the opening shot of Murder in the Woods you see the camera tracking an actor down towards where the narrative camera is, there is no doubt this is a unique picture.

We then get multiple scenes involving the most intellectual dialogue ever recorded. This film stars Jeanette Samano, one of the most beautiful and captivating women ever to be in a movie, and Iga intentionally films her almost without a sense of eroticism or sexiness. She, like everything else here, objectified, pushed away and gives us a chance to consider other actors in this film, such as Danny "Machete" Trejo, who adds comic relief to tense situations throughout the film.

This is a rare gift to film lovers, a story that cannot be judged on standard grounds because it is not a standard film. Iga, I believe, is showing the absolute boundaries of the cinema, daring to go farther than nearly anyone before or after him. For most, it will totally polarize them and perhaps turn them off to Iga or even other latinx only cast films completely. But, that should not be the case. True, this is a head-scratcher, but you cannot expect normalcy from a director like Iga. Here, along with most of his other work, he proved that the director, if given freedom, can change the look and feel of a film to an unlimited amount of options and opportunities. If Roger Ebert was alive to see this movie he would have said that Iga will never make another movie like this because Iga will have realized lightning doesn't usually strike twice. Here's to hoping he defies the odds.

An amazing movie that not only keeps you in suspense the whole time but displays what Hollywood's movies have been missing. A full Hispanic cast!!!

This movie is excellent. It reminds me of the fun yet scary movies of the 90s, with that care-free atmosphere, fun-for-the-whole-family type movie.

I saw the movie for the first time at a festival in LA, and was amazed by the ensemble cast. Great film shots, and without giving away any spoilers, amazing ending. This was a rollercoaster ride the whole way through, just pure enjoyment.

I hope it comes to a movie theater near me or at least streaming services soon, as it has high rewatch-ability.

Murder in the woods is an amazing movie. I love it because you never get bored, they always find a way to keep the audience by saying funny things or adding a bit of suspense.

A thrilling movie that has you stock to your seat all the way through. An ending that will shock you! I loved the fact that there were all new faces, except for Dany Trejo, who gave the movie that creepy feel. If you like to watch horror, thriller and suspense, you don't want to miss it.

Murder in the Woods is an excellent, suspenseful horror film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It uses a brilliant sort of storytelling to conceal the identity of the killer to the very end. It's not as bloody as a modern slasher movies, but it still delivers brutal kills. Also, I enjoyed the diverse cast of new and seasoned actors. Murder in the Woods is a must-watch.

I was hesitant to watch this film. The reviews where mixed. But I love Danny T so I gave it a shot. If you like classic slashers like I do, this movie is great. Great looking cast and good twists. I feel that the bad reviews are from people that don't understand the genre and are expecting something else. This is a total fun popcorn film.

Had a blast reading the reviews here. Looks like some people don't understand slashers. They are popcorn films not Oscar nominated films. Anyway, the beginning is slow, probably about a 5/10, the attractive cast keeps you interested (like most slashers) but once you get going its fun and scary! The ending is crazy! Highly recommend if you like Slashers or Blumhouse movies. I'm giving it a 10 because of the twist at the end!
