The Monkees are often thought of as a manufactured group. Davy Jones said The Beatles were the first manufactured group, not The Monkees. In addition, he compared The Beatles’ look to characters from a famous Broadway and West End musical.
The Monkees’ Davy Jones loved The Beatles’ music even though it was ‘manufactured’
During a 2006 interview with The Bob Show, Jones said he was friends with all of The Beatles. He was a big fan of the group, and he praised George Harrison’s songwriting in particular. He thought George wasn’t given his dues as a musician. In addition, Jones revealed he loved The Beatles’ “Penny Lane” so much that he listened to it thousands of times.
“Don’t get this wrong: The Beatles were the first manufactured group,” he said. “Not The Monkees. It was The Beatles.”
Jones said The Beatles’ manager, Brain Epstein, fired the Fab Four’s first drummer.

Global Screen has secured a presale of the female-led drama “Lost Transport” to Menemsha Films for the U.S. and Canada ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin.
Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of the final days of World War II when German soldiers abandon a deportation train, leaving the fate of its occupants in the hands of advancing Russian troops. The film centers on the chance encounter between three women, one German, one Dutch Jew and one Russian. Amid the ruins of war, these women must overcome their differences and work together in order to survive.
The film’s director, Saskia Diesing, “links real events with the fictional characters in the film to create a feminist and deeply human story about cohesion and friendship,” Global Screen said.
Diesing previously directed “Nena,” which earned a special mention at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival, where it played in the Generation 14plus section.

Matt James may have had a rocky start as the 25th (and only Black) lead of ABC’s top-rated dating show “The Bachelor,” premiering with ratings lows, but for the past four Monday nights, fans have been flocking to watch Bachelor Nation’s latest newcomer seal one-on-ones with kisses, give out coveted group date roses, say hello to a new flock of women and dismiss teary-eyed contestants vying for his heart.
For the evening of Jan. 25, “The Bachelor” came out at the top of Nielsen’s Live+Same Day fast affiliate rankings yet again, with a 1.40 in the key, adults 18-49 demographic and approximately 5.06 million viewers. After the primetime crown winner’s 8 to 10 p.m. window, ABC dropped a new episode of “The Good Doctor” starring Freddie Highmore, which garnered a 0.7 rating in the key demo and 4.19 million viewers, a significant increase of 14.75 percent in the demo and 5.51 percent in...

“The Bachelor” was Monday’s highest-rated show in the key adults 18-49 demographic, but Fox’s “9-1-1” and “9-1-1: Lone Star” were watched by more overall (read: older) viewers. And so were CBS sitcoms “The Neighborhood” and “Bob Hearts Abishola,” for that matter. Airing a trio of season finales, Telemundo topped Univision (and The CW) in primetime averages, finishing fifth outright on broadcast television. ABC was first in ratings with a 1.2 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, but third in total viewers with an average of 4.8 million, according to preliminary numbers. “The Bachelor” from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. averaged a 1.4/9 and 5.1 million total viewers. At 10, “The Good Doctor” drew a 0.7/4 and 4.2 million viewers. Also Read: Ratings: The CW's 'Charmed' Season Premiere Struggles vs CBS' AFC Championship Game Fox was second in ratings with a 1.1/6 and first in viewers with 6.4 million. Though it wasn’t the “winner” of Thursday’s Nielsen Live+Same Day fast affiliate rankings, The CW’s latest series, a Jared Padalecki-fronted reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger” entitled “Walker” performed outstandingly well compared to the network’s numbers these past couple of weeks. It attracted roughly 2.4 million viewers to the small screen and earned a rating of 0.4 in the key, adults ages 18-49 demographic.
Instead, CBS’ sitcom spinoff “Young Sheldon,” which, like its predecessor “The Big Bang Theory,” is created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, took the cake on Thursday night for the network: the winter return of the series garnered a 0.8 rating in the key demo and 7.5 million viewers.
Elsewhere on television at 8 p.m., ABC’s “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” which is like the classic Pat Sajak and Vanna White-led game show but with— you guessed it— celebrities drew a 0.8 rating in the key demo and 6.1 million viewers.

Even after 17 years on air, Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs continues to arrest the attention of “NCIS” fans. The beloved CBS action-packed police procedural starring Mark Harmon draws impressive numbers for the Big 4 television network.
The drama’s winter return at 8 p.m. was the top program on Tuesday night in Nielsen+Live Same Day stats, obtaining a 0.8 rating in the key, adults ages 18-49 demographic and 9.34 million viewers, a leap of 12.36% in the demo and 9.51% in viewership compared to the last episode, which dropped in December. At 9 p.m., a special episode of “NCIS” attracted 8.4 million viewers and came in second overall in the key demographic, scoring a 0.7.
CBS also took third place in both the key demo and total viewers with a new episode of “FBI: Most Wanted,” which, like “NCIS,” was on holiday hiatus. The “FBI” spinoff garnered a 0.5 rating in the key demo and 5.7 million viewers.

Viewers are going gaga over the rippling pectorals of Bachelor lead, Matt James, and the franchise’s location for its 25th season: a luxurious Pennsylvania resort brimming with chandeliers and catty contestants. On Monday night, ABC’s “The Bachelor” ran from 8 to 10 p.m., captivating 4.79 million viewers and drew in an average 1.3 rating in the key, adults ages 18-49 demographic. The Mushroom was unearthed and the Crocodile lost its snap, as the Sun shone brightest to win season 4 of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday night.
With last night’s two-hour curtain call, “Masked Singer” drew its largest audience since late November, scoring 7.1 million total viewers in the second hour. A 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 also represented a three-week high for the mystery singing show. The first hour brought in 5.3 million viewers and a 1.2 rating. However, it’s also worth noting that the finale was down a good chunk from the season 3 ender, which scored a 2.3 rating and just under 9 million viewers.
The other finale on Wednesday night was CBS’ “The Amazing Race,” which ticked up to a season high 0.8 rating and 4.3 million total viewers. “Seal Team” and “S.W.A.T.” both scored a 0.5 rating behind it, with the former drawing 4.4 million viewers and the latter just under 4 million.

After shocking fans with a Patrick Dempsey cameo earlier this season, “Grey’s Anatomy” pulled the same trick again on Thursday night, as T.R. Knight’s character George O’Malley returned to Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) dreams.
Last night’s surprising episode managed to win the broadcast ratings race, thanks in no small part to “Thursday Night Football” being benched. “Grey’s” came in with a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.7 million total viewers. While that topped the night, it does also represent a slight tick down from the previous episodes this season, all of which scored a 1.3 and closer to 6 million viewers. Its spinoff “Station 19” saw a more dramatic decline, dropping 20% to a 0.8 rating and 5.4 million total viewers. “A Million Little Things” rounded off the night for ABC with a 0.6 and 3.8 million pairs of eyeballs.
CBS’ entire comedy lineup was even last night, with “Young Sheldon” leading the way at a 0.8 and 7.3 million viewers.

The finale of “Dancing With the Stars” waltzed its way to solid if unspectacular ratings on Monday night.
A total of 6.1 million people tuned in to watch former “Bachelorette” Kaitlyn Bristowe and her partner Artem Chigvintsev be crowned the Mirrorball Champions. That represents a six-week viewership high, but is down around 2 million viewers on the season 29 premiere. Afterwards, “The Good Doctor” came in even with a 0.6 rating and 4.4 million viewers.
“The Voice” tied “Dancing With the Stars” at a 0.9 for first place overall on the night, ticking down fractionally in total viewership from last week to 6.8 million. Jane Lynch’s “The Weakest Link” maintained 100% of its rating and audience from last week, coming in at a 0.5 and 3.1 million.
CBS’ Monday night lineup had mixed fortunes, as “Bob Hearts Abishola” ticked down from its season 2 premiere to a 0.6 rating and 4.7 million viewers, while “Bull” ticked up to a 0.5 rating and 4.6 million viewers.

“For Life” returned for its second season on Wednesday night to its smallest audience to date.
The ABC legal drama drew only 1.9 million viewers to its season 2 premiere, which scored a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49. That rating matches the lowest tally from its freshman season, which overall averaged a 0.6 rating and 2.4 million Live+Same Day viewers. Earlier on, three quarters of the network’s Wednesday comedy lineup ticked down from the week prior, with “The Goldbergs” and “The Conners” both falling to a 0.6 rating and 3.6 million viewers each. “Black-ish” dipped to a 0.4 rating and 2.3 million viewers. “American Housewife” was the Disney-owned network’s only even show last night, coming in with a 0.6 rating and 2.9 million pairs of eyeballs.

Monday night saw the return of four CBS series to decent numbers.
All four were back a little later than usual in the broadcast season due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, “The Neighborhood” in particular delivered a solid ratings performance, scoring a 0.9 among adults 18-49 and drawing just over 6 million total viewers. That rating was enough to top the night ahead of “The Voice” and “Dancing With the Stars,” both of which scored a 0.8 rating.
After “Neighborhood,” “Bob Hearts Abishola” returned for season 2 to a 0.7 rating and 5.6 million total viewers, which is only a avery slight decline from its series premiere numbers last year. Fellow sophomore series “All Rise” scored a 0.6 but didn’t fare quite so well in the audience department, premiering to 4.6 million viewers, which is just above a series low. A part-musical season premiere for “Bull” didn’t hit the right notes, falling to a series low 4.9 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” season 17 premiere heralded the return of Patrick Dempsey as Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in an extended dream sequence.
Dempsey’s shocking appearance helped the ABC show top the Thursday night ratings charts, delivering a 1.3 average rating among adults 18-49 across its two-hour premiere and 5.7 million total viewers. While that was enough to see off the scripted competition, it does represent a slight 13% dip from the season 16 premiere. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a season high number of viewers tuned in to “The Bachelorette” last night to see Clare Crawley exit the show having found love, and Tayshia Adams take her place.

Amid the ongoing election chaos, “The Masked Singer” kept the show going on Wednesday night.

Later on, fellow Ken Jeong series “I Can See Your Voice” ticked up from last episode to a 1.1 rating and 4.3 million viewers, a 15% bump in the latter metric.
NBC managed to top its rival broadcast networks for the second night of election coverage, averaging a 0.8 rating and 3.4 million viewers across the night. It’s worth noting that the network’s coverage ran from 8-11 p.m., while ABC and CBS aired their regular schedules until 10 p.m.

“The Good Doctor” returned for season 4 on Monday night, but its ratings weren’t exactly what the doctor ordered.
With a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.7 million total viewers, the season 4 premiere, which had a pandemic narrative woven through it, represents a series low for the acclaimed medical drama. For comparison, the previous season debut scored a 1.0 rating and 6.3 million total viewers. Last night’s premiere had “Dancing With the Stars” as a lead-in, which ticked down from last week to a 0.7 rating and 5.3 million total viewers. It must be said that “Good Doctor” is far from the first scripted series to premiere to lower numbers than usual over the last couple weeks. Linear TV viewership has fallen during the pandemic, and ABC will hope “Good Doctor” continues its strong performances in delayed and digital viewing.

“Superstore” opened for business with its season 6 premiere on Thursday night, and faced a tough time in the ratings up against “Thursday Night Football” on Fox.
The season 6 premiere delivered a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.8 million total viewers. Although that’s down a touch on both the season 5 premiere and finale, it’s hardly clean up in aisle 12 for NBC, given both that the previous season premiere drew 2.9 million viewers and that “Superstore” is a strong performer in digital viewing. Later on, “Connecting” came in even on its previous episode at a 0.2 rating and 1.2 million viewers, and “Dateline” averaged a 0.4 rating and around 3 million total viewers.
Unsurprisingly, the “Thursday Night Football” game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers dominated proceedings, averaging a 2.2 rating and just under 8 million viewers for Fox. Last night’s 25-17 victory for the Falcons was up a fraction from the prior week’s...

“This Is Us” returned for its fifth season on Tuesday night, but failed to score the kind of ratings figures it has in the past.
Up against the sixth and final game of the World Series, “This Is Us” premiered to a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.1 million total viewers. While that audience tally is just above the show’s averaged last season, that rating represents a 28% drop from the season 4 curtain raiser. On the plus side, “This Is Us” did manage to build on its lead-in “The Voice,” which delivered a 1.0 rating and 7.4 million viewers. It’s also worth bearing in mind that TV viewership is down across the board of late, and that “This Is Us” is one of broadcast’s strongest performers in delayed and digital viewing.
Meanwhile, an average of around 12.6 million viewers tuned in to see the Los Angeles Dodgers clinch the World Series up...

“Dancing With the Stars” and “The Voice” topped the Monday ratings race and led their networks to a tie in the overall leaderboard.
The ABC dancing show scored a 1.0 rating among adults aged 18-49 and drew 6.1 million total viewers, a solid 20% jump from last week’s episode in the former metric. Right after that, “Emergency Call” with Luke Wilson posted a 0.6 rating and 3.6 million viewers, almost matching its premiere numbers after falling to a 0.4 for the last couple weeks.
While NBC’s singing program also scored a 1.0 rating, that represents a 17% dip from last Monday and a season low so far through three episodes. However, its 7.3 million total viewership tally was easily the largest on the night. “The Weakest Link” delivered its weakest showing to date, falling to a 0.6 rating and 3.7 million total viewers.
CBS’ “Big Brother” also came in with a 1.0 rating, drawing 3.8 million total viewers. The network’s...

Game 1 of the World Series and “The Bachelorette” both dominated the Tuesday night ratings race, but in reality it wasn’t a great night for either.
Fox’s coverage of the game, which saw the Los Angeles Dodgers comfortably beat the Tampa Bay Rays on an 8-3 scoreline, averaged a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 and around 7.2 million total viewers according to early fast-affiliate figures. That’s down over 4 million viewers from last year’s Dodgers-Red Sox World Series opener at the same stage. Last night’s game is on course to be the least-watched World Series curtain raiser ever, although those early numbers are subject to significant adjustment given the nature of live sports and the substantial numbers of west coast viewers. This story will be updated once the final numbers are in later in the day.

Presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump appeared in directly competing town halls on Thursday night, after the President dropped out of the second debate.
Trump’s hourlong appearance on NBC, which drew criticism across the industry and even an angry letter from top talent and showrunners who work with NBCU, appears to be trailing Biden’s 90-minute session with ABC in the ratings, even with the cable news networks factored in.
Biden is so far averaging 13.9 million total viewers on the Disney-owned network alone, while Trump is at 13.1 million across NBC, MSNBC and CNBC combined. In early numbers for the two cablers, MSNBC drew 1.7 million viewers and CNBC around 700,000, meaning that Biden is currently beating Trump 13.9 million to 10.7 million in the direct broadcast battle. This story will be updated with the final numbers once they become available this afternoon.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards saw Post Malone emerged with a whopping nine total trophies, however, the show itself wasn’t quite as successful in the ratings department.
A total of around 3.6 million total viewers tuned in on NBC, which looks to be a substantial 55% dip from the previous edition. Its 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 was only enough for fourth place on the night, and also represents a new all-time low for the music show.
However, those historically small numbers aren’t really all that surprising given that awards shows are tumbling almost across the board of late. For instance, earlier this year the Oscars fell 20%, the Emmys around 9% and the ACM Awards over 30%. It’s also worth noting that due to Covid-19, the Billboard Music Awards were shifted by more than five months from their traditional May broadcast date, which likely played some part in contributing to drastic fall.
Meanwhile,...

After several months of coronavirus production delays, “The Bachelorette” season 16 finally premiered on Tuesday night and managed to match its previous season, despite facing abnormally stiff competition from a one-off (or potentially not depending on Covid-19 complications) NFL game on CBS.
The ABC dating show debuted to a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 (down a hair on season 15) and 4.8 million total viewers, exactly the same tally as last year. It should be pointed out that “Bachelorette” typically airs in the summer, so ABC will likely hope for a boost from delayed to push it past last season given its new fall positioning. Right afterwards, a new “Celebrity Family Feud” came in with a 0.6 rating and 3.2 million viewers.
However, overall the night was dominated by the NFL game between the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills. The game, which resulted in a blow out 42-16 win for the Titans, drew just under...

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers took one huge step towards becoming NBA champions on Tuesday night.
The L.A. outfit went 3-1 up over the Miami Heat with a 102-96 victory, which also happened to be the most-watched game so far in the series. The game scored a 2.9 rating among adults 18-49 and drew roughly 7.5 million total viewers, even on the previous game ratings-wise. Those numbers are subject to upwards adjustment and while they don’t compare favorably with previous finals, it’s worth baring in mind that there are multiple Covid-19 and general TV viewership-related explanations for the league’s lower ratings in the Orlando bubble. Prior to the game, Jimmy Kimmel and the NBA Countdown averaged a 1.3 rating and 4.2 million viewers.
Meanwhile over on Fox, new drama “Next” starring John Slattery debuted to a meager 0.3 rating and 1.8 million pairs of eyeballs. For comparison, fellow freshman series...
