What's up, Michael Madsen?
Leofwine_draca21 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The only reaction when watching DEVIL'S DOMAIN is a sense of incredulity that Michael Madsen would be reduced to appearing in such a movie. This is a typical no budget indie in which the teenage girl protagonist is assailed by school bullies and must come to terms with her own sexuality in the meantime. Madsen plays an elder mentor character in a few scenes. Amid the appalling acting - the fake laughter is particularly grating - and the interminable plotting, the director seems more concerned with voyeurism than concrete storytelling.

Too much tossed together to be interesting.

Loved the concept of he devil, and loved the girl playing the devil (Everything I always expected).

It's a relatable story about teen outcast who makes a deal with the Devil to make her pain go away in the most horrifying way.

Rap group, Onyx seems out of place in the movie. Not that the kids today would not love Onyx but you'd think they would select a younger group of rappers from the kids era to go to a concert to go see.

The music all together in this movie seems like a huge distraction. It does nothing to help the story and it's not blended in the background so you notice it and it does not make the film go smoothly.

Felt like a homage to Troma films then it took itself too seriously to be that.

The deaths started out campy but the the movie ended with a serious undertone of evil.

Too all over the place made it kinda dull instead of interesting.

I think this movie is worse than Sharknado!
namitamhatre4113 June 2017
I love to watch horror movies and only started watching this because some website mentioned the IMDb rating for this as 7.4 instead of 3.3. I knew the movie sucks after watching it for like 15 minutes but I have this thing where I can't leave a movie half- watched. Just want 90 minutes of my life back! My suggestion - save your 90 minutes!

Fun Horror Slasher B-Film
icocleric9 July 2022
Trigger warnings for scenes of self harm, and there's a rapey scene, because they're under a "spell" but it's not violent and there's no nudity for it. There's plenty of violence in other scenes but it's slasher style violence.

It's definitely a B-Film, but it's overall pretty good for one, it's not perfect, but it has some really likeable things. I think if you enjoy B-Film horror it could be pretty enjoyable. Especially some of the death scenes are really dumb and funny. My favourite is a girl getting murdered by a landline phone that is also burning her ear off.

The acting of the leads is pretty good, and I think the story is relatable from the point of view of an outcast girl, being horrifically bullied and wanting to get revenge.

Low budget horror krapola.

Dreary little movie that is obviously bad in every facet of filmmaking, from acting to screenplay to plot to effects, direction and editing.

No suspense or any recognisable threat or sense of horror.

Dreary.

This was different, if nothing else...

Well, this was definitely something else.

The 2016 horror movie "Devil's Domain" started out quite nicely enough and seemed to have potential to be a worthwhile movie. So it seemed that writer and director Jared Cohn was on to something good here.

But then the movie took a turn for the worse and nose-dived steeply. The movie went from being interesting to being ludicrous in quite a short while. I am sure that if you look at "Devil's Domain" as a horror comedy, then the madness and the outrageous things that transpired on the screen would be all the more enjoyable. But I sat down to watch it believing I was in for a proper horror movie. So I have to admit that the turn of events to the storyline didn't really sit well with me.

The acting performances in the movie was a mixed bag of nuts. Some of the performances were actually good enough, taking into consideration the script and storyline; here I am thinking of Madi Vodane playing Lisa and being the lead actress. While other performances were just horrible and wooden; here I am thinking about Linda Bella playing Destiny, as her delivery of her dialogue was just toe-curling to behold.

Visually then I will say that "Devil's Domain" was actually good. The movie didn't make use of all that much of special effects, but the effects looked good and the design of the devil's appearance was actually interesting.

All in all, then "Devil's Domain" sort of fell short of properly entertaining me. Now, the movie is not all that bad, and it is indeed watchable. I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie such as "Devil's Domain" from writer and director Jared Cohn.

My rating of "Devil's Domain" lands on a four out of ten stars.

Great Horror Flick with a very good female lead
luna-074405 June 2017
Great Horror Flick with a very good female lead. It has a nice dreamy effect and the soundtrack is awesome. I do think this is Jared's best by far. The reaction by the bystanders while the girl gets plowed by a truck is classic. The scene with the Bass Metal project Luna 13 is very cool yet the opening chainsaw scene was epic.

Don't You Just Want Them to Die?
nogodnomasters3 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Lisa Pomson (Madi Vodane) is a teen girl who is bullied at school. She also has bulimia and gets secretly filmed doing her own thing and doing her other thing. The shame is unbearable as she contemplates suicide. She has two options for help: Satan (Linda Bella) and spend all eternity in hell and watch all her shaming friends perish in horrible deaths or her step-father Michael Madsen who has trouble giving up smoking. Like most of us Lisa chose hell and Satan over a dirty smoker.

There was an extraordinary amount of killing scenes with dismembered body parts, some were a bit squeamish. Sex wise, there was what could be called a brief rape scene and girl on girl action, although bra and panties is the extend of any nudity. The opening foggy glass shower scene was just a teaser. Satan has a sense of humor..."Being bad has its perks." Guide: F-word, sex, no nudity.

Not A Bad Movie, A Bit Of A Surprise
Richard_Dominguez2 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The Movie Has A Kind Of Cheap Quality To It And The Acting Isn't Much Better, But The Story Is Excellent ... We All Have Somebody We Would Like To See Get What's Coming To Them And So Did Lisa ... Revenge Is Sweet But Payment Often Is Not And We All Must Pay The Piper Sooner Or Later ... The Music Is Good For The Most Part (Some Styles I Just Don't Like) ... This Movie Would Be Awesome If Someone Could Pump More Money And A Better Quality Of Actors Into It ...

I'm siding with the devil
selfdestructo29 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the second movie in a row, in as many nights, that just ENDS (the other was The Sonata) without fleshing out any thoughts on pertinent plot points. SPOILER: Lisa has the Devil's baby, seems happy about it (she was raped), and is followed around by the media because she's become this famous reality star. NONE of this is explored.

This is your standard deal-with-the-devil revenge story, updated enough to include cyberbullying, a sexually confused protagonist, a "she-male" (the bullies' words), and a tall, beautiful lesbian devil (played by Linda Bella, bad accent and all, who I was shocked to learn she was 23-24 when they filmed?! She comes across as much more mature).

A young girl is mercilessly tormented at school, and is the victim of some extreme cyberbullying. She befriends a woman online named Destiny, who invites her over to her place in the middle of the night, and instantaneously summons a ride.

The young woman playing Lisa, the tormented, I felt was the strongest actor in the film (Madi Vodane, in her first and only role). She displayed a wide array of emotions, and you genuinely felt bad for her and her high school ordeal. Oh yeah, Michael Madsen shows up too, as her stepfather.

Overall, I found this to be a fairly dark and gory movie, which could have just as easily gotten on the campy side. Absolutely no shortage of sex scenes, along with exactly ZERO nudity.

I generally dislike these PC, 2010's-ized, modern re-takes of tried and true stories, but Devil's Domain was entertaining enough, and I'm sure a good portion of that was carried on the shoulders of a strong and sympathetic lead performance. Where did you go, Madi?
