How to make a movie these days. Get a hand held cine camera, fit a tight lens and shake it around for 100 minutes ...

The movie itself should have been a doomsday device...

Granted, I had little expectations to "Doomsday Device" (aka "Pandora's Box") when I sat down to watch this 2017 movie from director and writer Christian Sesma. Actually, I had not even heard about it prior to finding it by random luck in 2020. I liked the movie's cover, but seeing that Corin Nemec was in the movie, I must admit that expectations were low.

I believe in giving a movie a fair chance, so I sat down to watch this, and I managed to endure about 45 minutes or so, then I just had my share of rubbish nonsense, and I got up and turned off the movie.

The storyline in the movie is without a doubt one of the most idiotic and unrealistic storylines that I have seen in a disaster movie, and it wasn't even fun to watch. Some disaster movies are so cheesy and campy that they become fun to watch, because they are so bad. "Doomsday Device" was just downright and old-fashioned horrible.

The acting in "Doomsday Device" was as to be expected, for better or worse. So you know what you are getting yourself into here.

Do yourself a favor and stay well clear of this movie, because it simply isn't worth the time, effort or money.

I am rating it a mere one out of ten stars.

Nemic, you shouldn't have.

Rule number one: don't make it a japanese folkore based movie if you don't knox your basic japanese history and your actors can't pronounce the two most used japaneser words in the story. "Shogun" pronounced as "Show Gun" and "chikara (power) pronounced "shikara" (an asian cousin of Shakira maybe?). The rest of the movie is a train wreck and despite Nemic having been part of more crappy SyFy movies than you can shake a cattle prod at, none was as lkame as this one. He should have stayed away, he was the only decent bit in it.

"We have to find that thing before it happens again"

Warning: Spoilers
Two FBI agents run around trying to locate a stone of power (from Japan) that a tech billionaire wants to use to control the world. Or something like that. The agents, Cole and Mack, engage in witty banter that isn't witty and on the whole are mostly irritating. No one stands out in the cast. Robert Carradine as the evil genius Alexander Baird was particularly weak, threatening as a sparrow. The CGI of the effects of the stone of power were colourful but didn't looking convincing for a second. After the first five minutes I thought, this isn't going to be good but for the purposes of making a fair appraisal stuck with the film to the end. It wasn't good.

So did Cole keep the stone of power and fool the military that he was giving to them an empty box? Which makes no sense as keeping the stone in said box contained it's destructive power. It's all rather confusing.
