I'm using this, the last episode of the series to review Series 2 of this Scottish-made sit-com. It naturally helps that my wife and I are both from around the Glasgow area, but we found this second set of six episodes to be every bit as funny as the first. Sure, it's of the old-school, slightly un-P. C. comedy variety we all remember from the 70's, if dumbed-down for today with the addition of occasional cheap-laugh vulgarity and profanity but I'm bound to say I had little problem identifying people from my own experience who fit the admittedly exaggerated profiles of the hellish neighbours who take over the lives of ordinary, everyday middle-aged couple Eric and Beth.
I don't know who gets on my nerves the most, smarmy, condescending Colin or his jaked-out, "fur coat and nae-knickers" wife, the interfering, foul-mouthed, food-hoover that is Christine or her meek, rather large, daughter, but they all seem to find a way to drop in to Eric and Beth's to indirectly insult them as well as eating and drinking them out of house and home. Even the "Sunny Jim" persona young son of the hapless couple and his wouldn't-say-boo-to-a-goose boyfriend are no real fortification against the death-by-a-thousand-cuts they have to endure every time they answer the door.
All the episodes we watched were chock-ful of sometimes dirty laughs and it was good to see veteran guest star Maurice Roeves in a guest role.
Very much more of the same, if you liked the first series, you'll certainly enjoy this second run.
