Kei Tomiyama, who played Naoto Date in the original Tiger Mask (1969), could not be brought back for this series, as he had passed away in 1995. The only original voice actors to reprise their characters here are Ryôichi Tanaka (Kentaro Takaoka) and Hidekatsu Shibata (Mr. X).
Wrestlers Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows & A.J. Styles missed out on the chance to be animated for this series when they departed New Japan Pro Wrestling for World Wrestling Entertainment in early 2016.
It was produced in 38 episodes, broadcast for the first time by TV Asahi starting from October 1st 2016, 47th anniversary of the prequel premiere
The story is set over forty years after Naoto Date's escape.
