Stuck in the woods
Woodyanders11 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Six college pledges find themselves being terrorized by some weird evil force after they are dumped in the deep woods for a hazing ritual. Sound good and enjoyable? Well, alas it just ain't. The plot set-up is painfully laborious and uninvolving. A hot brunette takes a shower, but doesn't show any skin. This same hot brunette later does a frustratingly tame sex scene in which she once again doesn't show any skin. The characters are extremely annoying and unappealing. Worse yet, there's zero tension or creepy atmosphere, plus no explanation for why all the oddball stuff is going on. On the plus side, we do get some decent gore, a cool guy in a slimy monster suit, and the gals look nice stripped down to their underwear, but overall this crapfest reeks more than ten pounds of dog poop. A real stinker.

Incomprehensibly bad.

There is nothing redeemable about this movie. Even if you are rooting against the clichéd college idiots. Because whatever is supposedly stalking them takes forever to unsatisfactorily barely do whatever. It's horribly conceived, written, shot, lit, acted, directed and edited. It's morons in tents recorded by someone on maybe a smartphone? The "effects" appear to have been lifted from a bad VHS standard definition copy of some over-the-air episodes of Lost. I remember a van and a lot of litter in the woods. It's THAT nondescript.

It gets one extra star for wardrobe and hair-styling. The only things that didn't make me want to toss my TV off a cliff.

Warning: Spoilers
Six college pledges are dumped in the woods to go camping and do silly pledge tasks. They are painfully self-introduced during a campfire scene as they tell us their boring life story. I couldn't help but think of all those suicide scenes in "Airplane." It was that bad. Something that looks like a black mist is messing with the pledges one by one.

The area they are in has a sign about government toxic waste, but no fence as one would expect. The film doesn't give you any real closure although you have enough information to take an educated guess. Not worth the coin. Terrible dialogue and characters. The plot was not well constructed.

Guide: F-word. Clothed sex. No nudity.

Well the concept isn't horrible, but whomever put this garbage together doesnt know how to make a movie.

The writing sucks, the acting sucks, the directing sucks.

Do you get the idea that this entire ting sucks?

A bad movie I wouldn't even recommend to fans of bad movies

Warning: Spoilers
From director DJ Red comes "Pledges," the story of six students stuck in the forest trying to complete challenges so they can join a fraternity or sorority, I guess. The first act wasn't so bad, as they set everything up. Then, the "mysterious force" in the woods starts messing with everyone. The mysterious force is very powerful, as it can do anything that a more successful horror movie has done before. We get rip offs of Evil Dead, The Shining, The Fly, and Predator, if you can believe it. The kids all die. It was infuriatingly bad. I took a big tumble from mildly interested to "when will this end" very quickly. Avoid.

Far from great

Warning: Spoilers
You can kind of see what they were going for with this one and they have some decent ideas, but none of them are executed in a way that feels remotely cohesive. Clearly the writer was inspired by the Blair With Project, but they were unable to pull it off. The scary imagery seems like a handful of random spooky ideas that were tossed together with no rhyme or reason. If they were able to get the point across that there is some reality bending entity that either can become anything or can make you perceive it as anything (a small difference really), such as the creepy kids, then that would at least help.

TL;DR Clearly inspired by the blair witch, only worse.

Another of the worst movies of the 21st Century

Warning: Spoilers
When I watch a movie this putrid, this abysmally bad, this terrible.........I have to ask myself: How do these people get the money to make such trash? Is it for a tax write off? Blackmail? Did some pinheads get together and use their trust fund in hope for a tax write off? This schizophrenic trash fest covers all the classic film tropes; bad acting, bad directing, bad ideas, bad screenplay, bad script. In fact the only thing it didn't have that many cheap horror movies do: female nudity. I might have missed it since I dozed off a few times during this Blair Witch Project-Found Footage-Alien rip off. The worst thing is: I didn't care if the entire cast got killed off: which it did. The monster suit, seen briefly looks like a cancer ridden sleestak or something from Syngenor. A truly epic bad movie, but not an enjoyable one.
