some good laughs
tonimanganelli17 May 2019
Some funny jokes and a cute queen gave me good laughs...I didn't expect more, so I couldn't be that dissapointed. The animation is quite good for a european movie and the queen and his husband look hilarous :)

Perfect for its audience
jessevasse27 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Today I watched "The Queen's Corgi" together with approximately 20 other people. The majority of the audience were children, as was expected. Furthermore, a fluffy, cute lead was enough to satisfy these kids - as was expected.

The movie attempts to entertain their parents as well. For instance, there is an obvious 1999 film reference. This reference is actually connected with the story. Did the writer/director think that such a reference was enough to achieve satisfaction? I think it takes more than that to entertain the older audience.

Personally I truly consider the story to be flawed. Themes were all over the place. At first, I thought the theme would be obvious (conceited lead realizes that the world does not revolve around him). Nevertheless, this realization was not that visible in the end. It also tries to discuss, among others, the importance of solidarity, true love and class differences. Ambitious, but I do believe it was a bit too much for this movie to handle. The focus on solely one or two of these significant themes would be much better in my honest opinion.

Moreover, I had the feeling that parts of the movie were not connected at all. In the beginning, Wanda clearly tries to connect with Rex for non-romantic reasons and then suddenly she has developed true feelings for him. No explanation whatsoever! What was Wanda thinking? Rex did not change that much during that period, right?

Also, in the very beginning Rex is quite cocky (like Woody in Toy Story), but what does the movie want to tell us in the end? Accept it, since there is a chance that a worse person replaces the cocky one? I truly missed personal growth from Rex - This has been executed so well in movies like Toy Story.

Nevertheless, in the end, does it really matter? The kids in the audience were clapping in the end. They really enjoyed some funny scenes! I watched a lot of (animated) movies in the cinema and rarely experienced an applause. Conclusion: Despite its flaws, it is perfect for its audience!

P.S. Do not watch the movie if you adore Trump. The director clearly does not portray him as a sharp person - lol.

Promising trailer lousy story
rosaliethomassen25 February 2019
What a disappointment. After a promising trailer we went to the cinema. Apparently all the funny scenes were in the trailer. The rest was boring. A very predictable story line. It made me fall asleep. My 4 year old son found it a slightly more amusing than I did.

Do not see this with kids!!!
rapture-x21 July 2019
Went to see this with my 4 year old. From start to finish he was confused. Didn't understand why it wasn't funny, upbeat and happy like a normal animated movie. It was disgusting from the beginning of trump's dog being there- unwanted sexual advances, the dog grinding on things, sex talk etc. Horrendous and actually made me so uncomfortable whilst sitting with my 4 year old. Then there were dog fight scenes??.. why would they ever think this is family friendly and ok to show kids? Horrible film all together and my child came away so unsatisfied and wanting to see another film because it was just awful.

Unsuitable for children/Poor story
ryh-7555829 June 2019
Many inappropriate comments and "jokes" including but not limited to making light of suicide, domestic abuse, animal abuse & misogynist comments.

Plus the story is terrible and not interesting.

Worst children's film ever made
antony-692 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It only gets 1 star because I can't five it a lower score than that!

I have no idea why any actor would put their name to this.

Good children's films entertain children whilst adding in a modicum of humour for the parents to smirk at. This film simply contains adult humour that is inappropriate. Melania Trump talking about the size of Donald Trump's baby-maker is not child friendly in the slightest. What makes it worse, is that it's not funny, at all.

Unsuitable for children
hayleythomas-377953 June 2019
Not funny, boring, the adult jokes were so bad and very blatant that even a child may understand their meaning. Don't watch it unless you have prepared yourself for the worst movie ever.

Pretty funny!
jessica-1447211 May 2020
I thought this film was hilarious! I am American and appreciated the mockery of the horrible US President. My only wish is that they had mocked him more. It was great!! Bravo! My 9 year old daughter loved it as well!!!

Do not bother! This movie is not for children
artmargo16 February 2019
We were more than excited to watch this movie. The trailer seemed very promising. What a disappointment it was. The beginning was ok but the rest was just dreadful. This is not children's movie. Many inappropriate jokes your child should not hear.

All in all what a waste of potential and money. They spent 20 mln to create this? Not worth it. Do not bother. If you enjoyed the Paddington movie then this is not for you. This movie is definitely not for 6-7-8 years old children.

Poor role modeling for kids
timellini-124 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Went to see this with my 4 and 10 year old children. Animation was well executed throughout the film and there were some funny jokes for the adult audience too, but otherwise the script left me really confused. Who is the target audience for this type of content?

There's a long scene where harrassment seems to be okay and 'funny' as long as it's the female who is the aggressive side. Then there's gonna be some bullying and fighting. Then a 'friend' of the main character tries to murder him. Followed by some fighting, followed by a double murder attempt.

I am not an uptight person but I would have appreciated a better story line for my 4 year old to watch, thus only 3/10.

Great family film
colpaty26 July 2019
Quite some controversy around this movie reading the reviews. I liked it and the kids with me as well. Some of the reviews are ridiculous this is a family film and some of the jokes are for adults ... kids will not understand.

Nothing special but quite amusing
joostvg-916-392310 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dog does something bad, escapes from the palace, goes on an adventure, gets caught in a doghouse and tries to get back to the palace with is new love. Not very original but it's actually entertaining.

Trump is less disgusting as he is in real life.

I actually laughed a few times.

Don't expect too much from it but it's a good and simple movie for a Friday night when you're lying dead tired in the couch and don't want to think too much about a storyline.

An adult movie masquerading as a kid's movie, and a very bad adult movie at that.
CriticalOfEverything28 June 2019
The Queen's Corgi is one of the worst animated films I have seen in quite some time, and it's also one of the strangest, most uncomfortable and unfunny movies I've seen in my life. The only reason this has anything above a 1/10 is because the animation actually has effort placed into it, which is surprising for a film like this. Usually with really shoddy animated movies the animation is one of the main reasons why it sucks so much (Food Fight, etc.), but here it seems like they actually took their time to make the movie at least look somewhat acceptable. However, this movie is dragged down by it's utterly incompetent script, terrible jokes, awful and downright controversial adult humour and cookie cutter story. When your movie that is so very obviously aimed at kids with it's concept and marketting has Donald Trump saying the lines "Go grab some puppy", you have probably failed as a human being. It's fine to make adult jokes in kids entertainment and animation in general because they need to appeal to adults in some way to break the barriers of just being a kids film, but this film goes WAY too far with it and we get some really crude and uncomfortable jokes and scenes. Also, did I mention that this movie has an insane female dog who sexually harasses the main character? That's DEFINITELY suitable for a kids film. Please do not waste your time with this, you will regret ever paying money to see it, hell, I didn't even pay money to see it because I saw a pirated version online due to it releasing early in America. That's how much I didn't care for this movie, and I was still disappointed by something I didn't even have high hopes for.

Horrendous
grantrs31 May 2019
I don't normally comment on films but after putting this on for the children it didn't take long to realise this film is not for children. It's also not for adults either as it holds no entertainment value whatsoever. Therefore this film is a definite avoid!

A mess of a film
johndillon00125 July 2019
An utter mess of a film. Filmed with violence, quite scary dogs, sexism, a female dog that essentially attempts to rape another dog, a dog getting put in a washing machine. Jack Whitehall is charmless in this, and the animation is so so. The script is appalling, and the jokes are non existent. Save your money. See something else, anything else.

10 stars to up its rating...
chibbyman26 June 2019
I actually really liked this movie, now personally i don't think its the best movie, but i'm giving it 10 stars because this movie does NOT deserve the rating it has... I even think some of the reviews on this movie are even lying or made just to give this movie a bad reputation, if you go on some of the accounts that reviewed this movie, it is the only movie they have reviewed, isn't that strange???

Anyway I recommend this movie, unlike what some people say, it ISN'T the destruction of all things good, its enjoyable for the whole family, and if your worried about politics in it, there's next to none.

Laughed a lot...
benprichardsdotcom12 July 2019
And were surprised about it. We had heard lots of criticism and can empathise with where these opinions came from. But, this just tickled us (early to middle aged Brits) as we've got a childish sense of humour.

Let yourself have very low expectations of this film but also be open to a bit of nonsense laughter and I'm certain you'll enjoy this one more than you should.

It was one of the most disgusting cartoons I have ever seen.
SilverOrlov7 September 2019
Dumb and flat jokes, among which a special role is played, even without any hidden hints, jokes with sexual overtones. And it's a completely boring plot that such a feeling was stolen from the cartoon Bolt(2008 year).

Come on, it's not that bad.
YeeterPerson12 February 2021
What's there not to like? I get that there is a lot of adult jokes, but i've heard someone compare it to South Park, and that is just straight-up dumb. At least the movie is entertaining. I didn't have high hopes because I honestly don't think that Jack Whitehall is that good of an actor and it had very low reviews, but I liked it, and the jokes would go over most children's heads.

euromaster198426 February 2019
Just went to this movie today, but the first 10 min didn't caught me. The storyline sucked and jokes for the adults are bad. My son wanted to sleep because he got bored. Never had this with a movie in a loooong time.

a hymn to the glorious corgi
ops-5253529 May 2019
As some of you might already know, i'm pretty old and at best very very grumpy, but when i find a highflying animated movie like this, all my grumpiness just fades away.

because this is an easy story to follow, the spikes of fright are tolerable for even the smallest of the upright standing creature, the grown up jokes are so well hidden, that a toddler may have a view too. so beware that this is plain and simple, fun way of doggystyled life . the human caracters are so darn well caricated, the voices so personalized to each carachter, and as long as this is not disney or sony or hollywood craftmanship, they are all kicked over the sideline by this brilliantly made belgium feature length animation movie called corgi.

the technical and artistic impression are just excellent, i doupt it if having had 1000000000 euros more it wouldnt have been any better, its just a marvel, both for the dog lovers, and dogcatchers.

so the grumpy old man thinks that you should hurry up, get a ticket to ride the story of rex the queens corgi, its recommended.

Terrible film
bunjey4 June 2019
The only good thing in the film was renaming Coca-Cola 'Cov-Fefe' to laugh at Trump. The rest was so badly written, would not recommend to anyone.
