Flat as a documentary
maxvent5 December 2017
Basically it lacks of substances as a documentary. Through interviews of some not-so-ordinary gay fellows, you get to see what is is like taking a gay boat trip. The real documentary would be to show how this people live in the real world... Where they probably dress, look and probably behave differently. Aside from the clichés you could expect to see in this type of leisure activities, add the drugs they didn't seem interested in showing, just to make the perfect cocktail (probably a good aid to live in such a superficial world.) With that being said, as a gay men i feel ashamed for this documentary, it does no good as press about the community. It doesn't represent the vast majority out there. I wouldn't like my parents to see a film like this, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who actually cares to see more of what it's like being gay.

A lost opportunity
edhart0823 September 2017
Saw this film last night at the Sydney Queer Film Festival with 3 mates. We all found it rather disappointing as we'd all been on a Cruise Ship before and had a lot more fun than these poor devils seem to have experienced....the men that were chosen to showcase all had religious upbringings and while this is not itself a bad thing, it weighed too heavily on the course of the movie....the cinematography was excellent but overall that couldn't save the limp story-line

I really don't get this...
thiagosblancos1 December 2017
First of all, I'm gay, watching some movie where are gays aren't dying of AIDS or either suffering for being out or almost out of the closet is a change, a good one at that. Said that, I'm puzzled with this, the kind of gay men this movie portraits a men obsessed with a gym body, having sex the whole day, partying like crazy, that is not my life or my friends, I don't get this kind of life, not really, and this is exactly what they tell you should be whether you are gay. A self immersed gay, fashion kind, being drag from time to time, and then... when the sun comes up again they wonder why no one takes them seriously, I mean, honestly!? I'm sorry people, but there is more in life than this superficial world you live in. Choosing to be part of that means that you are also accepting its rules.

All in all, it's OK but it does not represent the majoriti of the gay community, should that exist.

A documentary about gay men discovering themselves
Gordon-117 January 2018
This documentary tells the story of some gay men who are on board a gay cruise to discover themselves and their lifestyles.

Some websites and blogs have portrayed this documentary as an expose of how gay cruises are not fun, and trigger insecurities of gay men. I think it is not true at all. In fact, this documentary tells how several gay men successfully understand themselves on a gay cruise. It is a documentary that is filmed on a gay cruise, but not about a gay cruise.

Going on a gay cruise now seems like an abysmal idea.
joehelsinki15 August 2018
I'm still unsure why this documentary was made. If I were a Catholic prayer-warrior I would use this movie to prove how gays are just shallow, selfish, sodomites with a lost direction in life. Everything about the movie seemed so empty. The character's feelings were empty, the interactions were empty. After about 30 minutes this movie just proved to be a step-and-repeat about loneliness and disappointment.Does anyone make any lasting friendships on these boats? They portrayed everyone as just heartless and cold, only smiling when they find a body to hug close to them for the night.

If this is the standard for gay cruises, count me out! I was very interested in gay cruises, but it appears from this movie I wouldn't make many lasting memories...as my memory of this movie is quickly fading.

On the plus side, this movie makes me very thankful for my own gay life. I do believe I'm having way more fun than those poor souls.

The Truth about how people lose themselves to find love
mokegent-3354626 December 2021
I think it was an honest documentary about how gaypeople try to find love in their lives, but they make the mistake by following the crowd in a wrong way.

Love isn't found on a boat where people run around naked.

Love isn't found on a cruise, where people are going for a good time.

Love isn't found when you are looking for...

You find love when you are happy with yourself and be confident.

It was a very depressing mood on the boat I must say.

When you dream about finding love, dream first about accepting who you are... if people don't like you for who you are they won't like you for not being yourself either.

What was the point?
uncsbuddy9112 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It was interesting to know the backstories of a few passengers, but everything else is boring. The scant costumes in every scene, the used condoms all over the deck, the public display of fallatio; it all presented evidence of stereotypes that we try to contradict in the gay community. It was easy to see their attempt to present a ship full of supposed eye candy, but the melodramatic flamboyance was a major turn off. If you're going to create a gay cruise documentary, change the music, and include more variety in the interviews. I began to fall asleep attempting to give this movie a chance, and I don't often fall asleep during new movies.

bright lights not flattering
ekeby8 December 2017
It's hard to watch a bunch of guys in elaborate party drag walking down a narrow, brightly lit cruise ship's corridor underscored by a sad, Debussy-like piano soundtrack.

There is a lot of this almost clinical detachment about what is being observed. Enough so that activities--which were probably a lot of fun for most of the participants--look sad and lonely, not to mention surreal.

I have mixed feelings about this film. The detachment is the point of view. I think it masquerades as objective, but really, it's pretty judgmental. The slow-motion camera lingers on guys who are north of 60 decked out in feathers, or leather harnesses. You see every nook and cranny in their well-worn faces; any joy the guys are feeling gets scrubbed out. Is it fair? Sure. Does it tell a story? Yes. Is it interesting, and fun to watch? Not for me.

The film centers on five guys from Europe and the Middle East, so, points for that. But. One guy is in a wheelchair, and another lives in Dubai. One guy is Palestinian now living in Belgium. The film seems to suggest that their life challenges are equivalent, at least from the perspective of being gay and fitting into the gay community. So it's hard not to feel that the filmmakers see their queerness as yet another handicap.

If you're a Stonewall-era veteran like me, you may find this film pretty rough going. And for young gay guys--well, it might make them feel like voting Republican.

One of the worst LGTB movies I've ever seen
pachomar8410 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, why did they make a documentary about mostly gays guys whose family/religion doesn't accept (maybe that's the reason they go on a gay cruise, but still they are repressed as if they were in main land) Mostly ppl who scaped their country to some European place cuz being gay was a torture in their homeland, which is something gay people deal with (I know, I am gay) But all this movie doe sis showing how gay people act when they're at outside the laws, like their only purpose is to find someone with great abs, sexy bearded face, otherwise, they are not worth it Real gay people as not as shallow (at least I want to believe that), we don't go from cruise to cruise to find our best sex experience which might or might not be the love of our lives All this movie makes is showing gays from many cultures/problems (handicap, fat, ugly, not tanned enough, old) everything that society sees as a homophobe facts is represented here, as if all gay people are so damn selfish Take my advice, even if you live in a homophobe country and want to feel connected to people with the same traumas, stay away from this, this is the worst example of how a gay person is...a person

Depressing. The least gay gay film I've ever seen.
kitellis-981219 July 2018
I found this documentary unexpectedly depressing. It is reasonably well-made, yet seems to encapsulate the exact opposite of gayness (in its most literal sense) with melancholy background music and depressed voice-overs discussing depressing topics. Wide shots show hundreds of dressed-up gay men partying and seeming to have a great time, yet nearly every man who is featured in interviews and sequences seems to be miserable (or trying hard not to be). The party scenes, which comprise most of the film, become quickly repetitive to watch, and the interviews and conversations ever more downbeat or simply dull. Watching this, for me, became an exercise in endurance. One which I ultimately failed, as I stopped watching just five minutes before the end. I tried, but just had to stop. It's strange to feel so low after so much "gayness".

Certainly a special slice of gay men on an all-gay cruise
marc8881 February 2018
When I read some of the negative, bitter, and rather inaccurate (ie saying that post 60 gay men were shown as sad, silly queens. did not happen for me), I decided not to show it for some friends but did decide to view it alone. Yes, this is not a slice of everyday gay men but a gay cruise. I found the film, poignant, honest, touching and ultimately positive. I am well over 60, so, you negative types need to calm down!

Lacked in any substance
benarco5 September 2018
This documentary could have focused on so many interesting aspects about the stories featured, but it instead was random rants by men peppered in between scenes of cruise circuit parties set in slow motion. What a let down.

A Floating Bathhouse...
marc886 April 2018
Having been on a Gay cruise I can say most of this film is accurate but a LOT of other points of interest are left out. But the main problem with this film is that the five guys it focuses on are just plain incoherent.

Breme boat

Warning: Spoilers
How can you have any type of expectation from a gang bang trip? How can you search for a soul mate in a place made for sex? Why the need to dress up like a bunch of 5 year old on Halloween night? How can you think like a teenager in your 30's? This baffled me like crazy. Really unexpected discussions between grown people. Actually psychological undeveloped grown people.

Oddly depressing and pointless
borgolarici8 November 2019
A huge cruise boat populated by young men ready to party and have fun in an environment of controlled frenzy. Sounds like the opposite of depression, right? Wrong! The interviews often dwell over sad or deep subjects but the real problem is the persistent aura of sadness that permeates even the moments that are supposed to be happy. The pacing, the color, the music... everything contributes to make this documentary incredibly gloomy and overall pointless, since nothing especially interesting or poignant ever happens.

Fabulously Meaningful!
Glenn_K92 December 2017
Cinematography is absolutely amazing during the entire movie. Spectacular costumes and amazing lighting gave a feel that you were on the very cruise itself. I identified with a lot of the characters and our struggles to accept one another and be real, free, open and honest. This film touched me in a way I doubt another gay film will. Bravo!

Depressing
chicagoland919 July 2020
Every night there are parties with a lot of semi clothed gay men. Some people party all night, we can only assume on some type of stimulants. Condoms litter the floor in the light of day. All five of the featured guys are massively unhappy. Yeah. I'll pass on a week like that. I thought gay men were sort of fun, Peter Pan sorts. Guess not

It's homophobic and I turned it off 1/3 in
ryanlmurphy4 April 2020
This is exploitative and salacious. Like a homophobes video of a gay pride parade. Replacing dance music with ominous music makes every one look sad and desperate when they're having fun. Where are the people laughing? Where are the people having fun? Where are the well-adjusted people? The choices this film show create a dated and sad representation of gay culture.

Looks like the X rated version of a YouTube La Demence Cruise Video
smooth_op_8512 June 2020
I'd watched this movie up until about the 20 minute mark and I'm like: Didn't the film crew just film a La Demence Cruise and pass it off as an original thing? It doesn't seem to do anything original, I want to review it in its entirety but not sure I can use the video on YouTube or they'll delete my channel

Whoever thought this was a great idea, without exploring real issues in a tasteful or artful way needs to be sued by every gay cruise line that ever existed including the secretly gay ones

The Dialogue Felt Scripted
etiennestories17 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was not impressed with this film. Everything in it seemed forced and fake. And the dialogue was scripted. I find it hard to believe that five men from different countries all talked like valley girls. Their speech was peppered with the word 'like'. "I felt, I don't know, like, etc".

What a waste of time.

It did have lots of nearly naked bodies, most of whom were not worth a second glance.
