We twice see an extract from the film Emil Valdemar is making in which the flames of a burning building are seen reflected in his character's eyes. Beavis transpires to have been poisoned by strychnine being, not in his orange juice, but smeared on the straw he uses to drink it. This echoes a murder in Michael Winner's movie, where Charles Bronson is killed by poison being invisibly smeared on the base of his glass rather than in the alcohol he is drinking; the drink only becomes poisonous after he has poured it.
