A visually striking and poetic video

Excellent clip by Sophie Muller and you haven't seen it yet blame it on MTV for its ban due to the depiction of occultism on a seance session - intolerance much since way darker themes than that were explored and still got away with it, and to well acquainted audiences what is presented on the video feels more like a spiritism session, a segment that has plenty of followers. MTV's big loss with this one. Eurythmics made a beautiful ballad, equally brilliant its music and lyrics, and the video is a more of a thoughtful process than a spooky one.

I guess the occultism part speaks higher than spiritism because of the ouija board the attendees use but nevermind. The video presents Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart and others trying to make contact with the other side, the secret world of the dead, all filmed in black-and-white until Lennox solo appearance in another dimension, a forest with fallen leaves (the other side) to which is filmed with bright vivid colors. Stewart also appears in a color fashion otuside of the group meeting, possibly as the angel trying to rescue Annie's lost soul. That's when we see amazing images of him running through corridors with its walls exploding debris around him. He comes to save her soul and we get that not just because of the images but also the lyrics telling us what her character did in order to get trapped on a strange cold place.

In terms of Eurythmics music videos this is their finest since it isn't much of just showing the duo performing the song as they do in other video, there's a whole story in the foreground and when a video has more than just those but also gives us a concept filled with art, mystery and poetry than we're getting on the right track. The music is perfect and the video, besides being more than 30 years-old is not one bit dated - it feels like it was made a couple of years ago. The special effects are superb and that slow-motion image of Lennox sitting on the burning room with the flames one-inch close to her is a pure work of art, something that hasn't been erased from my cinematic memory. 10/10
