Keeping up with the tradition of bizarre yet artisic imagery right after "Give It Away" director Stephane Sednaoui and Red Hot Chili Peppers created in "Breaking the Girl" a
very unusual clip with some mysticism, weird characterizations with band members dressed in surreal robes almost as if being alien figures who makes strange dance moves and
there's the immortal image of Anthony Kiedis crazed hairdo that makes us remember of Princess Lea from "Star Wars", they're all in the desert filmed in reddish/orange colors,
and from time to time there's the presence of a woman (Patricia Velasquez) and some sources say but I couldn't find, River Phoenix is there as well.
No one can doubt the artistic integrity and creativity brought to this project, but it's not one of the greatest music videos of the band neither their most interesting song.
In fact, this was one of my last favorite tracks of theirs ("Snow" being the one I can't stand it for life). It has some inspired moments, the solo between the chorus is quite alright. And where's John Frusciante in this anyway (replayed by another guitar player. I think it was the early days of John's darkest days in the early 1990's). So, if you like RHCP videos such as the colorful ones made by Dayton and Ferris you won't find much enjoyment unless if you're a fan of the music or very into abstract images. I liked it but it's not of those clips where I keep revisiting over the years. Surely had its impact back in the day. 7/10.
