Let me count the ways...
ccorral41915 July 2017
Oooh let me count the ways this "making of a boy band" series is bad: a) Trying to rename the judges "Architects", b) terrible boy band choreography by the usually good Tabitha and Napoleon, c) irritating Host Rita Ora who thinks the show is about her and her outfits, d) screams throughout the show by the mostly young female audience - it's no wonder the "architects" can't tell how bad many of the "boys" are, e) cheesy "stage excitement/anticipation" sound effects, f) awful "live show" sound system, g) judges who ham it up for the camera and provide some of the most corny and unproductive pieces of advice to their contestants...must I go on? Maybe this show will actually identify a group of guys who can come together and become a Boy Band, but I'm not sticking around to watch these cuties progress.

Awful show

The singing is bad, the boys personalities are all the same and they are all your generic aspiring musician type. The judges are corny, too hyped, and just overall annoying. The female audience screams are annoying and make your ears bleed. Everything is over dramatic. I hate this show.

Hard To Watch Desperate Attempt To Reproduce Boy Band Relevance
spiritof6727 July 2017
First of all, let it be known I liked boy bands. I am a big fan of New Edition, New Kids On The Block and some others. That said, this misfire is a truly bad idea masked as a serious TV show, as long as you consider The Voice a serious TV show. The young men on this show know all the fake sincere looks, all the tired 80's-era moves, all the over-singing tropes.....virtually every cliché involved with boy bands. What they have none of is the actual TALENT needed to separate themselves from karaoke singers into real singers. Simply wanting to be famous only works on the internet. It doesn't work elsewhere. Also, I can only take about five minutes of Rita Ora and/or her implants. Sorry about that.

Positive attitude and good focus on performing

So far (as of the first episode) this show is drama free. Everything is geared toward a cooperative atmosphere instead of competitive, and the focus is on the contestants singing and dancing on stage, alone, in pairs, and in groups

Some background info is given about each guy, and the producers, judges, and hostess don't really try to hide the attempt to pigeonhole contestants - e.g. "the mama's boy". Though the judges' mild attempt to paint one as "the bad boy" simply due to having tattoos on his arm fell rather flat - maybe they didn't see his intro that was shown to viewers before his performance.

For a competitive/reality show, it's pretty good. My biggest complaint would be that the judges are excessively positive when reviewing the poor performers, to let them down easy. They're teens in the performance industry, and they need honest feedback if they're going to improve. They can handle it! And hopefully they'll be more consistent in moving away from the out-dated and overly simplistic stereotypes of boy band members.

It Works!

The final 5 "In Real Life" are really succesful now. They create awesome music together and are becoming big hits. Even though some contestants did not win they still had a jumpstart to their music career. 4 of the contestants even created their own band together. Boy Band is a life changer and a awesome show.
