The title of this Man Ray film, supposedly crafted in 1938 but probably made later due to the inclusion of color footage which was not yet available to consumers, tells you all you need to know regarding its content. Technically speaking, "Home Movies" shouldn't even be considered a film or listed in IMDb's database, due to fully consisting of other short clips already listed under Ray's name; essentially, all it is is a compilation or short experiments or unseen works by the filmmaker, with no apparent coherency. Though each segment that comprises this forty-four minute film is given its own individual title, many of them seem very unprofessional - almost as though (shockingly enough) they are just little home movies. Some are memorable, others are not as much, but regardless, they are of a certain interest to one with a fancy for old amateur footage even if not exactly 'official' films.

Man Ray's nearly feature-length compilation covers a variety of things, such as trips to what appears to be Spain, with scenes of bullfighting that remain fairly interesting to watch. Others contain rather intriguing shots, including what appears to be smoke being blown into the interior of a bubble several times. There are also a variety of what I assume are supposed to be pretty girls talking to the filmmaker - one entire sequence is a lengthy dance routine of an immodestly clad woman doing some graceful and impressive stunts (including contortion). Most of it really does appear to just be private stuff Man Ray never really wanted people to see, with no experimental photography like he would normally use - but I suppose if you enjoy looking at old home movies of people decades ago, it is a fairly interesting watch.
