A great south African story

Enjoyed every piece of it. The choice of background music as well, unexpected, unpredictable. Perfect, from start to finish.

Great story telling.

I was dragged by my wife to go see this movie, an afternoon well spent to say the least. It is shot well , it is directed beautifully, the soundtrack is on point, the actors are so believable and they execute their craft with such ease and confidence. There are very few, if any, moments wasted on camera. Well done young men and women for a brilliant piece of art.

The Best Coming Of Age Story

Childhood friends Lefa and Papi navigate the hardships of growing up in Pheliville. Just graduated from high school Lefa has been accepted into Wits and hopes to score big with their cannabis business whilst Papi is just chasing the next score.

I've been putting off watching the movie for years, I regret never watching it earlier because it is just fantastic.

SA Storytelling Greatness

I went to see this film when it came out in the cinema. What an awesome time I had with my wife watching this. Great film, I definitely suggest you give it a watch and you'll enjoy it. Great story of friendship, trials and going through the most to make ends meet, between friends. A true test of friendship.

I enjoyed the Directing and Cinematography, the actors did an amazing job of holding the story together as we follow them through their challenges. Many people will be able to relate to this story for all the characters wen through.

Very sad what happened to the main actor. May he Rest in eternal peace.

Magic

Matwetwe's brilliance is in its energy: the story and a dazzling array of characters keep sprawling (just like the township we see in swooping aerial shots), defying the viewer to guess where all this will end. It shows a gritty, real side of South African life which is often overlooked or taken forgranted. Comparisons will be made to City of God, but this is not a didactic text, it's a hilarious (and occasionally brutal) piece of kinetic cinema.

Heartfelt coming of age story

Warning: Spoilers
Kagiso Lediga rarely disappoints. The writing was well researched, solid performances from the cast, the editing and the score was brilliant. The nostalgia alone will reduce you to puddle of tears on how beautiful and how tragic life can be in kasi. A laudable salutation to Atteridgeville.
