Short animated is worth a peek

"A Thousand Kisses" (2018 release; 15 min.) brings the story of a young Jewish couple in Berlin in 1933. She is from Germany, and he is originally from Poland, and worried about the quickly changing environment of Jews in Nazi Germany. he decides to go to Brazil, and (for reasons not really clear) she decides to stay in Germany for now. It prompts the man to start writing letters to her to let her know how much he misses her, and always signing off with "A thousand kisses, your Moses"... What will become of them? Do they reunite? Just watch...

Couple of comments: this is based on the true story of this couple, where by magic (or is it a miracle), these letters were uncovered in 2016, yes, 83 years later. It resulted in a publication of a book in 2017, and now this short animated film. It is of course at the essence a beautiful love story, but equally a reminder as to the hardship (and then some) caused by Nazi Germany to Jews.

I recently saw this short film as part of the 2019 Jewish & Israeli Film Festival here in Cincinnati, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. If you have an opportunity to check out "A Thousand Kisses", by all means do so!
