The series of monologues finishes with the tale of Something Borrowed.

Set in 2016, Alan Cumming plays Steve. It's his wedding day and he recounts the events a gay man like him has had to go through. There was the playground bullying at school, how there were never depictions of gay people having romance and his feeble attempt at suicide. Now marriage between homosexuals is legalised. Steve's mother was always there for him.

Steve is practising his speech realising that maybe something off the cuff is needed.

Now he is here about to get married in a lavish wedding that they can hardly afford. The table decorations includes cheap Christmas crackers that his aunt had bought half price in the post Christmas sales.

I chuckled at Cumming mentioning the lack of seeing gay romance while Steve was growing up. Cumming famously appeared in the Jackie Annual in 1984. A romance photo story called Horsing Around.

There is a mention of a friend called Russell who states that all romance ends with one person dying before you. I guess that is a reference to writer Russell T Davies who has famously said there are no happy ever afters in romance. One person in the relationship will die before the other.

The final story bring the Queers monologues up to date. It was a fascinating series and more lively and life affirming than i thought it would be.

A lot of it is to do with the writing and the cast making the most out of it.
