Well made documentary about yet another scandal in the USA.
deloudelouvain3 August 2020
I'm an European and I would never have imagined that such a scandal could happen in the United States, or at least not for thirty years uninterrupted without anybody official doing something about it. It's the kind of scandal you would think could only happen in dictatorships, but not in 'The Land Of The Free'. The documentary is very well done, it's sometimes hard to watch, as no-one right in his mind could do something so bad to the elderly, you have to be a psychopath to do that. Children and the eldery, those two vulnerable groups of people should always be protected by their governments, and after this documentary we can only conclude that the whole system is corrupt in Nevada. Witnessing those psychopaths acting above the law, or dictating their own law, without any consequences and that while they represent the authority it's very frightening. Shame on you Nevada! My wife is from there, we watched this documentary and couldn't believe our eyes. I'm glad she came to live with me instead of the other way round, you for sure don't want to end the rest of your precious old days in Las Vegas. I can't believe the FBI is not on this case either, what the heck is wrong with justice in America? In conclusion, watch this documentary, it will open your eyes if you were asleep, open your eyes and make your own conclusions who you want to trust in the future, certainly not the government.

So Many Questions - Who has the answers?
celestegornick27 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Who can watch this documentary and not ask the questions: Who do all the cremains in the storage locker belong to? Do their families even know what happened to their loved ones? How can so much corruption exist for so long and nothing is done to rectify it? Thy documentary relates that the beginning of this crime possibly begins in hospitals where elderly are treated for minor injuries. They run a financial audit and can tell if people own homes and vehicles and have savings. Others posssibly involved are judges, hearing officers, court staff, attorneys, guardians, enforcers. Then these most vulnerable elderly residents become victims. It sound as if someone in the hospitals are complicit in starting the chain of events that leads to elderly people being forceably removed from their homes. From there they lose everything they own. And they lose their Constitutional rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We are talking about people of sound mind. Many are placed in mental institutions where they are heavily drugged. They are removed from family and friends until they die and then their assets are absorbed in entirety. Corruption exists in State of Nevada, Clark County courts and private practice. Private and government employees.continue to operate this scam. Fraud, elder abuse, financial exploitation are just the beginning. Private Guardian April Parks was arrested and arraigned but there was no indication of what her sentence was in the documentary. How could you ever make up for the abuses covered in this film? Thank you Billy Mintz and crew for this startling even shocking glimpse into elder preditors operating in the State of Nevada. There should be a warning sign when you enter the state.

Absolutely frightening
Posygirl23 December 2019
I definitely was not expecting to see what I saw after reading the synopsis of this documentary. It's absolutely frightening and so very sad to know this is being allowed in our country. Kudos to all the people in this film that worked tirelessly to try to make changes. It breaks my heart to think of the poor innocent elderly taken advantage of by our legal system.

When "the law" becomes a tool of terror in the failed state of Nevada
alrodbel12 January 2020
This is only the opening chapter of what should be the exposure of the insidious nature of pure greed and a lack of human compassion when combined with the inertia of trusting those in power.

As a senior myself, I was hesitant to watch this documentary ( available on Amazon Prime) having read about the final outcome, that turned out to be more illustrative of the depth of corruption that remained rather than its extirpation. In Clark County encompassing Las Vegas, there is a large population of elderly retirees, many of whom have no extended family, but enough of a nest egg to be a lure for those who can devise a system where all of their wealth can be confiscated, as they are sedated and restrained for the rest of their life.

This documentary seems like it is something out of a dystopian horror movie, perhaps even a netflix series. The reviews would point out that it is too exaggerated as such a conspiracy of evil, protected by legislation was simply too unbelievable.

The producer-director Billie Mintz is a one man show, depending on his casual mien to connect with people who would shun one who is more threatening. He also has the compassion and vision to take a long view, grasping the extent of the corruption and the virtual enslavement of those without the resources to "fight city hall."

I highly recommend viewing this documentary, and rather than feeling despair, become energized to find a way to address this defect of our legal-political system- and the many others that lie "under the color of law"

Slapped by the "System"
vidanevada26 March 2021
Watched with disbelief as "the Guardians" strip retired elderly of everything they own through a broken legal system that encourages the behavior. I love how this film pieces the puzzle to fit. Just follow the money and its easy to see where these legal games steal wealth and dignity from the elderly under the premise of protecting those they are promising to "protect"

Truth is always stranger than mere fiction.
jmerzetti9 April 2021
I stumbled across this issue less than a week ago, have read most of what I could find on the topic, watched the American documentary Silent Torture, and followed up with The Guardians. Very impressed with the director's work.

With all I've read and watched, I'm left with what is my most conciously entrenched impression: elderly people who are poor are blessed with a "get out of jail free" card. The reason is simple. They have no assets to exploit, steal, purloin, rob, cheat and lie over. It is really as simple as that.

This is a growing industry, set up to separate elderly people from all that they have spent their lifetimes gathering. But that's only the tangible assets part.

On top of this, they are robbed of their family ties, lifelong friendships, quality of life, and the very reason to live. They are kidnapped, drugged, incarcerated, and reduced to the status of non-persons. They have no rights, and they have no more agency or authority over their own lives than would a helpless infant.

It's all perfectly legal, in the land of the free. Free, yes - free enterprise at its best (or worst).

The Guardians tells the story with great sensitivity and empathy. Yet it never staggers into the maudlin or sensationalistic. A fine, humanistic approach to a scam and scandal that so desperately needs to see the light of day.

Eye Opening
scottyherzog26 January 2020
This documentary was purely riveting. It's appalling that our seniors can be dragged out of their homes with hands and feet tied and a stranger given full control of their wealth. If you're a senior living in Clark County, Las Vegas, move out.

Well filmed and very extensively investigated documentary.

It is happening to me and I am CANADIAN!
ritasusan-5674530 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Billie Mintz has saved my life on many levels. I am a Pedestrian who was struck down in a crosswalk by an impaired driver. Both the Canadian government, MINISTRY OF ATTORNEY GENERAL( MAG) and my Insurer, STATEFARM created a mirrored identity, financial clone, AVATAR, a separate stream of income which did not incude me. Both my CATASTROPHIC 2 million in Funding and, my MVA settlements were kept in-house by them, yet on paper and through dubious court orders: Deemed mentally incompetent, Order of Governance, they made all my financial decisions and provided my avatar, clone, doppelganger with an amazing well financed care and treatment plans which they filtered through my TD CANADA 🇨🇦. I received NADA and "sleep" with a Personal Alarm as they also have access to my Condo with an Emergency key.
