a tragic intermesso in a workmans life
ops-5253510 September 2019
Its a french film about a man that came from nothing, struggled his way to the upper level by hard and long workdays to maintain a large family wealthy lifestyle, till the day he makes the wrong descision, which make the descend into the abysmal nightmare of unemployment become a reality. its a film about shipping, globalization, family values, pride and prejudice.

its not a fun flick, what kept me in was to see how much this caracter could withstand. the main male actor, that has the same grumpy appearance as i have, does a marvellous act, so if you debate watching this movie, i can recommend on the basis of good caracter acting. the grumpy old man really felt sorry for the guy.

Olivier Gourmet, one man show; great acting. Shows strong character trying to cope With tough choices to make. Depicted as stone cold character with his daughter as soft spot where he bonds with youngest Daughter.

Reacting to ending criticism ( warning of plot revealing)
giomarmrt10 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I actually think that the ending is the most plausible.

And what I expected. The attitude of the family being rather self absorbing was a good indication. The catharsis with the captain (after a super cathartic bonus) was quite interesting, but not developed enough.

I was particularly stricken by his honesty not to hide behind the true reason of his dismissal : seniority. Also about the openness of the mother to the elder siblings. Honesty in crime and tender relationship with youngest daughter is what saves him. Also the collusion of all parties involved.

One more time I'm reminded why Africa is in such underdeveloped state: being the playground of self enriching European and lately Asian states. Switzerland being an excellent example : I only mention the well documented case of copper mining at pennies a pound paid in Africa, many euros per pound selling in Europe.

One goofing thing: the family home was in Switzerland ( francs being used, army service the elder son) but thé father drives to a port in Belgium or NL with his youngest daughter in an afternoon ? Even in porche should be 8 hours minimum.

Compelling French social drama
searchanddestroy-111 January 2024
Olivier Gourmet is of course excellent, terrific in this role of a big executive in a huge transportation company, container transportation. The story is described from his own point of view, showing his family life, and all his business problems. It is tense, accurate, powerful in the purpose. It sounds so real, as in many French movies speaking of this kind of scheme. Olivier Gourmet's character doesn't bring any empathy to the audiences, but he stills sounds so close to what people are in true life. It is sometimes rough but riveting. The authentic portrait of a life for thousands of men and women.

Strong performance of Olivier Gourmet in a story with some loopholes
gcarpiceci1 October 2019
The movie is centred around a masterful acting performance of the protagonist, Franck (Olivier Gourmet); Frank is a tough, very introverted man; Olivier Gourmet, without using many words all along the movie, is able to deliver very effectively the personality, sentiment and emotions of the character. The story is quite compelling and it builds a narrative tension which engages the viewer until the last third; at that point story departs for a turn of events which lack plausibility and which bring to a rather anti-climatic end.
