Good movie
MikeWindgren19 May 2020
Yes, there are better gangster movies.

But this is not a bad movie. Be patient and go along with the story and it's just a fine movie to watch. That is, when you like gangster/thriller movies, with some violence (bad things off camera) and the unavoidable foul language that goes with it.

Worth a watch when you wait until the story develops.

Extreme Violence But It Kept Me Engaged
larrys34 December 2019
Extreme violence and some confusing plot elements in this crime thriller, but it did keep me engaged throughout with its air of menace.

Liam Hemsworth stars as Moe Diamond, a jeweler and money launderer, whose friend Skunk (Emory Cohen) has hooked him up with some jobs for his mobster uncle (Zlatko Buric). However, Moe and Skunk decide to do a multi million dollar drug deal on the side which goes terribly wrong and all kinds of mayhem will ensue. The twists at the end just add to all the wild and crazy happenings.

Overall, if you don't mind the over-the-top violence, the explicit language, or some confusing plot elements the film did keep me engrossed throughout.

Please Don't...
jjvel030328 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Not that this film is horrible but please stop slapping a 10 to every other film. A 10 should be close to perfect and good enough to be included in 1001 movies to watch before you die or good enough to be preserved in a time capsule. So yes 9 would be just fine thank you

Yeah, Only if you really like Liam Hemsworth
subxerogravity31 August 2019
He's done this movie before. Was it the one actually set in the 70s, instead of just having that look, where he was a security guard who always wanted to be a cop or the one where he plays a jersey boy trying to hook up with a spoiled uptown brat? Either way Chris' younger brother, as I like to think of him, loves this type of role as the East coast tough kid far too pretty to be that gangster. He's good in that role too, so if you love the ex-mr. Miley Cyrus, it's cool to call him that too, you'll love the movie cause that's what it's all about. Other than that, it's a predictable crime drama that tries to distract you with a lot of empty action sequences. The film has no feeling to it at all. I never get to a place where I have any emotion towards any of the other characters other than Hemsworth's. The film has a cleaver story but you see it coming from the very beginning which screws it up. So like I said, good enough if you're feeling Liam like that. Me, not really.

"You don't fight dirty cops, you buy them."
classicsoncall24 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The title doesn't leave much to the imagination, does it. But it comes with a twist - the principal character is a guy who kills people, and his name is Killerman. Pretty clever, huh? Except that we're introduced to him as Moe Diamond, part of a money laundering duo that includes Bobby 'The Skunk' (Emory Cohen). Liam Hemsworth is Diamond/Killerman, although we're not let in on his real identity until well into the story. And even then, things become problematic when it's hinted that Moe/Frank Killerman is a cop infiltrating the money laundering racket headed by the Skunk's Uncle Perico (Zlatko Buric). We might have found out about that, but midway into the picture, Moe is injured and falls victim to amnesia. When that happened, I kind of threw up my hands and felt myself a victim of the picture having gotten that far. Complicating matters, a team of dirty cops is on the loose looking for both a drug stash that The Skunk was going to deal outside the normal course of business for his boss, and the cash that was involved in the exchange. It gets pretty convoluted fast if you're not paying attention. If you are paying attention, you'll recognize a plot hole when Moe's pregnant girlfriend winds up missing, Moe believing she's dead, but Uncle Perico stating that she's alive, even if Moe, now Frank, doesn't remember who she is. That plot thread is never wrapped up after Killerman machetes his way out of a jam involving the pair of dirty cops. A narrative following the end of the picture states that it's unknown if Moe/Frank ever figured out who he was, making it sound like this might have been based on something that actually happened. I'm not really ready to accept that, and If you think this review is confusing, just wait till you see the flick.

Slow

Warning: Spoilers
The twist at the end is interesting but the journey is painful. You don't care about any of the characters. Its slow. Screenplay was thrown together in five minutes. Meh.

Very Strong
Tyndareon21 November 2019
Strong performances, intimidating villains, claustrophobic situations; this level of authenticity is very seldom (if ever) found in Hollywood where they go for safe and cheap thrills. There's no superheroes here, no easy resolutions, no good guys. It's all gritty and grey and asphyxiating in its determination to drive the plot forward without relying on the usual stupid (albeit entertaining) tropes.

Somehow, in this age when we've already seen all there's to be seen in such a thoroughly explored genre as this (crime, drugs, gangs), this movie still manages to deliver and I applaud it.

All in all, Realistic: 8, Immersive: 8, Entertaining: 5, Resourceful: 7, Suspenseful: 7.

Lots of yelling.
chris-laughren20 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie had potential. Grit, violence, dirtbag cops, gold bars, drugs and money laundering. I found the plot to be condescending. Amnesia? Seriously? The other drawback was the Cohen kid. He still hasn't mastered the art of acting, and the film suffers because of it.

A Strange "Buddy" Film
lavatch25 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"Killerman" has to be one of the oddest "buddy" pictures in cinematic history. Apparently inspired by a true story, the film looks at the complicated world of drug laundering from the perspective of Frank "Moe" Killerman and Bobby "Skunk" Santos. But, by the end of the film, it is impossible for the viewer to understand what has just transpired on the screen.

The film begins with great promise with gritty chase scenes in New York that resemble the style of "The French Connection." We follow the action from the perspective of the mysterious Moe, who is working with Skunk in laundering enormous amounts of cash from drug trafficking. The best scene of the film was a fast-paced montage where we witness cash transformed into a gold bullion into cashier's checks.

But when Moe and Skunk depart from their routine and partake in a drug deal gone bad, the remainder of the film is one long cat-and-mouse game between a small group of dirty cops in pursuit of the stash of money and "product" in the hands of Moe and Skunk. But are the cops interested in the drugs and cash as "evidence" for criminal convictions? Or, are they actively involved in the drug trade for their own profit?

Another key player is Skunk's Uncle Perico, and "investor" working with the local councilman and paying off everyone in sight to complete a building project. Uncle Perico will be the linchpin in "following the money," as Moe and Skun run for their lives through the streets of New York.

Beyond the excessive and often unnecessary violence of the film, the ending was hopelessly confused in sorting out the identities of both Moe and Skunk. Clearly, the two characters were not being honest with each other. Moe believes that his beloved girlfriend, the pregnant Lola, is dead. But Uncle Perico reveals that she survived her gunshot wound. The filmmakers never bother to tie up the loose end of Lola, before Moe and his buddy Skunk head off into the sunset with their multi-million-dollar haul!

This was amateur filmmaking that required greater attention to detail in the editing room, especially in making the logic of the film coherent to its audience.

Why you should always judge for yourself
urbanspider24 May 2020
This movie is the reason you should always judge for yourself and ignore the bad reviews. A lot of people might avoid this movie due to its poor rating, but they'd be missing out. Great movie.

Very Underrated
ashrafxx12 January 2020
Very underrated. its not winning any Oscars but it doesn't deserve that low score either. some of the acting, screenplay etc.. is not that great which is expected for a small budget movie, but the story overall is good and the movie is fast paced. If you are not looking for perfection its a nice crime thriller with a twist.

When the camera throws a tantrum
OPPATRIA_9 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film could have been a nice thriller with a drug lord, organized crime, nasty cops and so on. Then there is the money launderer's loss of memory. That doesn't help the plot at all, but rather slows it down. - - - - - - - - but it doesn't matter at all, because it's obviously a low-budget movie, which the film clearly shows. There are various scenes where nothing happens for minutes. For many minutes. The scene in the nightclub (in the trailer at minute one) lasts ten minutes in the film, and nothing happens at all in time. And when something happens, then there is only one very (!) shaky camera and many fast cuts. This is the easiest and above all also the cheapest trick, in order to compensate a missing action and to fake tension. You have the fast cuts also in the trailer, the wobbly camera was skilfully omitted there. However, the right film consists to 50% only of cut and wobbly camera. In this respect you should call the whole "helter skelter" rather than "film" rather "spectator fooling".

Genuinely Horrible
arfdawg-123 November 2019
This movie looks like it was made with drug money.

It's just dismal. The acting is back yard acting. The writing is moronic.

And the directing is shaky cam all the way.

It's real garbage.

What do you people want? This is solid
popcolin23 November 2019
The fact that this movie is slow adds to the style. If you want a fast action movie watch something from the 80's 90's or early 2000's. If you cannot see that movies have changed a lot since then I'm not exactly sure why you are even bothering to read this review.

The new style of filmmaking is less obvious. We live in a world where more people than you realize do not want to be involved anymore, so we turn to movies and television or just media in general. The big studio productions are wasting all the money, energy and talent into creating obnoxious fantasies of real life that do not represent much at all. I, for one, am sick of that. I grew up on big budget action movies and now every time I see a new one I get bored. We need more small movies like this to take a chance by not pretending it is something it is not, an interesting theme to the movie as well.

It is a very direct approach to filmmaking. Take the story and put it up on the screen. Don't worry about framing everything perfectly and getting 20 guys to fiddle with electric cables and lights. Can we see the actor? Great! Just make an action drama with few elaborate set pieces and don't try to trick people by fancy spectacles. The way the filmmakers combined shots on the streets of New York City with alleyway driving car stunt stuff (not a New York City thing in the least) was very well done and it didn't necessarily take me out of the experience.

The only thing that did take me out of the experience was the music. I hate to say anything specifically bad but it sounded like it was from one of the Jason Borne movies. Just very much out of place.

It is a very solid movie but you won't get any kind of mind-blowing experience here but in a way there is a straightforward method of storytelling here that I think is great. Obviously could've pushed itself further but as I was saying the new trend is for less sensational movies so this type of low budget thing isn't going to be able to afford to take those big risks. I would recommend.

Too easy
drjgardner1 September 2019
The premise of the film is a good one, but the writers telegraph the twist much too early, and then just in case you missed it, they do it again and again. Leaving more to the imagination without such blunt actions would have made a better film.

Not too shabby coming from a novice filmmaker
Top_Dawg_Critic22 November 2019
This is novice writer, director and actor Malik Bader first writing attempt, and yes, it certainly needed tweaking in his screenplay, and the directing wasn't top notch, but for a low budget indie film, I actually enjoyed it - on a lazy Sunday popcorn flick. Casting was decent all around and everyone performed their characters quite well. The score was absent and subtle for the most part, but felt little overwhelming in some scenes. The cinematography was on point and I loved the old 80's themed setting. Certainly not worth all the 1's and 2's... based on the filmmakers repertoire and experience, as well as the low budget, it's well deserving of a 6.5 rounded up to a 7 due to the wannabe critics giving 1 and 2's. I do with the budget was a little bigger to have a seasoned screenwriter and assistant director, as that would've made this film great I'm still trying to find out if this was actually based on true events after reading the closing credits.

Mediocre Cops & Mobsters
stevendbeard1 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I saw "Killerman", starring Liam Hemsworth-Independence Day:Resurgence, The Expendables 2 and Oh yeah, he is Chris' younger brother and Miley Cyrus' ex husband; Emory Cohen-Lords of Chaos, The Duel; Diane Guerrero-Jane the Virgin_tv, Orange is the New Black_tv and Zlatko Buric-Pusher, 2012. This is a run of the mill, mediocre cops & mob movie. Liam plays a money launderer for the mob. Emory is his buddy that has a few connections and wants to make a big score with Liam's help. Diane is Liam's girlfriend and Zlatko is Emory's uncle-the connection Emory has that will make him rich. When Emory's plans go horribly wrong-ending up in a car crash while being chased by dirty cops-Liam looses his memory. He doesn't even remember Diane. One thing in Liam & Emory's favor is that they have millions of dollars in cash and drugs. One thing not in their favor is that they have dirty cops and the mob wanting the cash and drugs. There is 'surprise' twist near the end but it is not that big of a surprise-more mediocre than anything. It's rated "R" for violence, language, drug material and sexual content-partial nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 52 minutes. It's not one that I would buy on DVD. I wouldn't rent it, either. If you really want to see it, I'd wait until it comes to cable.

What a pleasent surprise!!!!
mmjnr1027 February 2020
Nooo Spoilers!! So Listen up people.. This is one of the very very decent thrillers that has come out in the past 12 months and trust me there has been very few that are well done and when I say we'll done I mean an original story that on its own could keep you on the edge of your seat if someone just told you about it just verbally!!! The story is the movie for me and then comes level of execution relative to the budget thats how I rate them and this one for me gets a straight 7 in that Genre and I rate movies based on Genres and intentions of the movie plus excution ofcourse for how many decent stories were ruined by film makers!!! This is very decent indeed and original and those who say its slow are not appreciating or understanding the idea of the story which is lame to me... Anyways go see it and I know if you are a smart viewer who has seen them all like me you'll definitely enjoy this one considering it's just above small budget but professionally done giving it the kick it needed!

So, so bad
danieljuncos29 July 2021
Remember when you were twelve years old and you wrote that awesome action-movie script that had all the guns and drugs and Russian guys and dirty cops and really cool nicknames for everyone? Then you wrote that every line should be either shouted or whispered and all the characters have to look angry all the time and say the "f-word" every ten seconds? Well, somebody green lit it and had Vangelis write the score.

Not Bad.
redrobin62-321-20731130 March 2020
I gave it a '7' because I don't think it was a waste of time at all. It was relatively fast-paced, violent, intense, with good acting and cinematography all around. 'Scarface' it ain't, but that's not what 'Killerman' was attempting to be. Just a solid popcorn urban drug flick to spend 90 minutes with. Worth your while.

No, Just No! Do Not Like
vegicat2 December 2019
Possibly some of the worst acting/dialogue I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. And, characters you don't care about, with the bonus of a weak, cliche, pointless plot. About halfway through the movie I was so bored and annoyed that I put it on background while I worked, so at least I could make productive use of my time. Just listening to the audio without seeing the actual movie, I was struck over and over by how the voices just didn't sound believable. Completely fake dialogue. No way you could believe they were real people talking to each other. Absolutely ridiculous. And, wow, bad accents, to boot.

The only reason I can see why anyone would have given this movie a positive rating is that they don't know what real acting is, or they have a massive hard-on for Liam Hemsworth. Sorry, eye candy doesn't excuse a worthless, garbage movie.

Camera work is horrific. Who in their right mind directed this?

This movie had GREAT potential. Completely ruined by amateur video. Couldn't even hold the cameras still. The angles and framework were embarrassing. Wish someone else was in charge. This could have been a 10 instead of a 1. STOP trying to be artistic and learn to be professional.
