Point missed, hardly an awards show

Warning: Spoilers
"The title "2017 Billboard Music Awards" is fairly telling in terms of what we have here. Or is it really? Well, not so much as this is in theory an awards show, but in practice, it is more of a concert really from start to finish with occasional interruptions when awards winners are announced. The categories they included here feel extremely random too, which isn't helping. The show ran for 3 hours including commercials about a year ago and that means 2 hours 15 minutes approximately actual material and about 90 minutes of that are music performances. Imagine the Oscars showing us 1.5 hours of scenes from the best movies? Well, it may be good for the people in the audience to see all these stage performers live, but in terms of watching the event on a screen, it's just a gigantic misfire and it's not really an awards show anymore. Host Lzdacris was underwhelming and I usually like him more than I did here. Admittedly, he is not as bad as Hudgens, who feels really fake from startg to finish, even if her singing moment was tolerable. As for the music honored and presented here, the show starts with Nicki Minaj and I won't want to add any further to that. The best things were perhaps the performances by Cher and Céline Dion, but it says a lot if these women who have been in the industry for decades atill have to provide the shining light of the night and how the currently young generations of singers are simply unable to fill the gap. Completely aside from that, as good as the two may have been, their inclusions felt extremely random I must say, as if the makers here knew they were badly in need of some retro quality with which you can just never go wrong. But obviously, Believe and My Heart will go on weren't good enough either to make up for all the negative aspects here. What else can I say? Oh yeah, the constant inclusion of advertizement felt really uncomfortable and it's far more than the one for T-Mobile in reference to the location's name. In Germany, we call it a Dauerwerbesendung. All the twitter hashtags weren't to my liking either. But at the very core of it, all the music performances, with very few exceptions, were on a level where I must say that do not exactly provide a quality image of the talent of our generation. There is a lot better obviously, but mainstream has never been that bad really. So yeah, a huge thumbs-down from me for this one. Don't watch and it's always telling if one of these big awards shows does not manage to score an Emmy or any other nomination. Highly not recommended.
