Wonderfully silly fun even for Austen diehards. Acknowledge that the book is sublime and that no visual transfer can ever come close to the subtleties of her writing, so take your curlers out you prim uptight would-be reviewers, loosen your corsets and relax with this riff on P&P, sit back and enjoy the film whatever its faults and omissions.

An "E" for effort...

The premise of this film is clever: as a new version of Pride and Prejudice is filmed we see that the actors playing the roles are engaged in their own version of Austin's book. Unfortunately, the limited budget handicaps this production. The actors are good but the weak script pulls them down a bit. I liked the strong positive nature of the female lead. She's strong but kind and you can almost believe she'd have 8 million followers on her vlog. The actor playing Liam who plays Darcy definitely looks the part. But it's all just a bit too tepid. Stronger writing would have compensated for the lack of budget.
The plot of Pride and Prejudice unfolds within the making of a Pride and Prejudice film.

I love the Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, so in general I enjoy it's film retellings and this was no exception. It wasn't my favorite retelling, but I appreciated the modern story telling within the story. It was very family friendly with the "American" actress who was cast as Elizabeth Bennet being a very popular vlogger, who really sells hard work and a positive attitude as she shares her process and struggles to do her first film as an actress.
This had a little w budget feel and I think of as comparable to a Hallmark romantic film. When taken in that context, this is a recommendation to romantics out there, especially fans of Austen's original material.

Promising premise but ultimately - painful to watch

Warning: Spoilers
The premise held some promise: a backstage look at the making of a movie adaptation of Pride & Prejudice in which the interactions between the actors seem to mirror those depicted in the story.
Unfortunately, the writing is terrible and the acting is even worse, so not one character comes across as believable or sympathetic (there are a couple of scenes where the lead actress seems so utterly dumb! And even when she is supposedly kind her behavior lacks any depth whatsoever).
One hour in, I've been forcing myself to go on watching for at least half an hour, but I doubt very much that I'll make it to the end. If you ask me - save yourselves the trouble and give this one a miss.
A promising romance ruined by the writing

This could have been a better romance than the typical but unfortunately the fan service parallels between the story and P&P are completely undermined by being wrapped around the the worst adaptation of P&P I have ever seen. Apparently the writer(s) thought they could write better than Jane Austen, and unfortunately they have nothing to offer there.
I thoroughly enjoyed it

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this movie, as I believe many Pride and Prejudice fans will.
Yes, they are unaware that they are living out the book while starring in a movie based on the book, but I found the modern take on the characters delightful.
Spoilers following:
Elizabeth documenting her feelings online while wrestling with moral issues is another way we get to take a look into her character. She is kind, humble, but also draws a line when her beliefs are tested. Darcy too sacrifices. He gives up a pivotal role for someone else. This in another way we are able to see the true kindness of his character.
All in all, an excellent family movie with older children.
Absolutely disappointed

Clumsy film with a fundamentally wrong basis
graemealexanderphillips-910106 November 2021
It was quickly apparent that the story told in the film was a thinly-veiled parody of Pride and Prejudice itself, and not very well done at that. Philippa saying "I'm hearing something alarming" in particular was a very bad parody of Catherine de Bourgh.
Apart from all the other negative points, the whole basis of the film was flawed. People were shocked at the idea of an American woman playing Lizzie Bennett, supposedly a quintessentially English role. Does nobody remember Jennifer Ehle (American, though born to a British mother) playing Lizzie Bennett in the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice?

Perfect casting....finally

This was not a film about p&p but a behind the scenes look at the cast making such a film. The Casting director aced it with this one. Lexi had the chance to show the world just how talented she is, and the lead characters had chemistry from their first scene together. It's refreshing to see a male actor who can actually do romance.
Kindness and Integrity in Modern-Day P&P
KindnessAndHumility1 January 2021
Amidst the popular "strong, independent woman" midset today, this modern-day P&P shows otherwise that inner beauty is strength and integrity is independence from being a people-pleaser. Dream big. Work hard. Be kind. And maintain character and integrity.
Simple yet wholesome story, nice twists with fun laughs. Wonderful acting, especially Lexi and David. Clean and family-friendly.
