Justin Hartley is heading back to the Super Bowl. Hartley’s new CBS drama “Tracker” has landed the best lead-in imaginable for a series premiere: The show has landed the coveted post-Super Bowl slot next season, launching behind Super Bowl Lviii on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.
Hartley, of course, knows a thing or two about that slot. As one of the stars of NBC’s “This Is Us,” he watched a Crock Pot tear his TV family apart in that show’s very special “Super Bowl Sunday” episode, airing right after the big game in 2018.
In premiering “Tracker” after the Super Bowl, CBS continues its return to the once-common practice of using the biggest night on TV to launch a new series. The last time CBS ran the game, in 2021, the network premiered “The Equalizer” behind Super Bowl Lv. (It worked: “The Equalizer” is still on the air.) The time before that,...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ decisive 31-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night drew one of the smaller crowds in recent Super Bowl memory.
As (finally) reported by Nielsen following a most atypical delay, CBS’ multiplatform coverage of Super Bowl Lv — which had the second-largest margin of victory in 18 years — amassed 96.4 million total viewers, down five percent from last year’s cume and marking the smallest audience for the Big Game since at least 2007 (when the Colts beat the Bears 29-17, on CBS).

CBS is taking a look at how it processes non-scripted series following the departure of Sharon Vuong.
Vuong, who spent three years as head of unscripted at CBS and nine years at the network overall, left the broadcaster last month and joined NBC.
During her time at CBS, she oversaw long-running reality franchises including Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss as well as Love Island, the U.S. reboot of the UK hit format.
The non-scripted community has been ruminating as to who would replace Vuong in the role, whether the network would hire an external unscripted boss or hand the top job to Mitch Graham, who has been VP, alternative programming since 2013.
CBS has typically ordered fewer non-scripted series than its rival broadcast networks and in recent years series such as The World’s Best, Million Dollar Mile and Tko have all run for one season.

“Lego Masters” laid the foundation for a strong debut season with its series premiere.
The Lego-based competition series hosted by Will Arnett premiered on Fox Wednesday night to a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.8 million total viewers behind the network’s biggest show in “The Masked Singer.” Following its colossal post-Super Bowl audience of around 24 million, “Masked Singer” was of course going to see a significant drop-off, but still managed to score 7.4 million total viewers and a 2.0 rating, which is above its season 2 average of 7 million viewers and on par with its average rating from last season.
For comparison, the second episode of CBS’ “The World’s Best,” which also premiered after the Super Bowl in 2019, dropped off 75% to 5.6 million viewers from 22.2 million. So all things considered, “The Masked Singer,” which unmasked the Llama last night, didn’t fall off too precipitously.

The Super Bowl managed to recover fro last year's series low.
The big game amassed 102 million total viewers across various platforms, including Fox, NFL, Verizon Digital, and other online streaming services.
On Fox alone, the game garnered 99.9 million viewers -- up two percent from the numbers CBS had.
Fox previously hosted the Super Bowl in 2017, and the overall total viewer tally was a cool 113.7 million viewers.
This is a great turnout when you consider that last year's CBS airing pulled in ten-year lows. Up is up in this industry, so this is a win.
Out of the Super Bowl, Fox went with the third season premiere of The Masked Singer. Yes, the network is pumping two seasons of the show out per season now.
It delivered 23.7 million total viewers and an 8.1 rating -- easily leaping to series highs.

ABC's new drama, Whiskey Cavalier, managed to pick up some steam in the ratings on Wednesday night.
Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 2 scored 5.3 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating.
The series benefited from an American Idol lead-in. The true test will be whether it can hold these ratings in the coming weeks.
Idol managed to 7.8 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating, down slightly from its Sunday debut.
Elsewhere, Survivor was steady with 7.3 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating.
The World's Best followed with 2.9 million viewers and a 0.6 rating, up two-tenths week-to-week.
CBS would have been wise to save this series for the summer and air The Amazing Race out of Survivor.
The CW's rotation of Riverdale (1 million total viewers/0.3 rating) and All American (0.6 million total viewers/0.2 rating) were steady.
24 Hours to Hell and Back had 2.7 million viewers and a 0.8 rating, marking season lows. ...

The Masked Singer has been a roaring success for Fox.
The new series hit new series highs with its first season finale on Wednesday night.
With 10 million total viewers and a 3.1 rating, it was up 15 percent in the demo week-to-week.
Over on CBS, Survivor inched down a tenth to 7.1 million viewers and a 1.5 rating.
On a worrying note, The World's Best continued to descend, logging just 2.7 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.
There's no telling whether CBS will allow the series to air its entire run, but these numbers are anemic.
Chicago Med (8.4 million/1.2 rating), Fire (8.2 million/1.2 rating), and P.D. (7.1 million/1.1 rating) were all down week-to-week.
ABC's rotation of The Goldbergs (4.5 million/1.1 rating), Schooled (3.5 million/0.9 rating), Modern Family (4.3 million/1.1 rating), and Single Parents (2.9 million/0.7 rating) were steady.
Meanwhile, the timeslot premiere of Whiskey Cavalier scored 4.1 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.

“The Big Bang Theory” is a beast, even in its 270th episode.
CBS topped primetime ratings on Thursday, when “Big Bang” landed 14 million total viewers. The only other show that came even semi-close to “Bbt’s” gaudy Nielsen numbers was spinoff and lead-out sitcom “Young Sheldon.”
ABC finished second on the night, and “Grey’s Anatomy” slipped a bit from last week. NBC was in third place again, and Fox’s lineup of reruns didn’t even put up a fight. As a matter of fact, Univision beat Fox (and The CW and Telemundo) in primetime.

CBS was first in ratings with a 1.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 7.4 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Bbt” at 8 p.m. scored a 2.6 rating/12 share in the key demo.

Are you six for six at guessing the identities of Fox’s eliminated “Masked Singer” contestants and pretty sure you’re going to get the remaining six correct too before the show is over? Good for you because then, as a fan, you should know the panelists definitely aren’t that successful.
While Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger have thrown out many a name on the new Nick Cannon-hosted oddball celebrity singing competition series, they haven’t hit the nail on the head that many times before the unmaskings.
And when TheWrap spoke with executive producer Craig Plestis during the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday, we learned that none of the panelists ever guessed the identity of the person who won the whole thing — which viewers will find out when the finale airs in three weeks, as the whole season was previously taped.

Wednesday at 8 p.m. is not the post-Super Bowl time slot. That’s a lesson CBS and its new talent show, “The World’s Best,” learned last night.
The James Corden-hosted alternative to “America’s Got Talent” was no “Agt” in its time period premiere, settling for a 1.0 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 and 5.6 million total viewers. The episode aired from 8 to 10 p.m., and CBS ended up third in primetime averages.

The Most and Least Watched Post-Super Bowl TV Shows: ‘World’s Best,’ ‘Friends,’ ‘Glee,’ ‘This Is Us’
Season in and season out, the Super Bowl is the most-watched broadcast across all of television for the calendar year. So when the New England Patriots raised the Lombardi Trophy Sunday night, CBS was celebrating right along with the winning 53-man roster — though not as hard as networks who have aired the big game recently partied, as Monday morning Super Bowl Liii posted the lowest early ratings for the event in the last 10 years.
Immediately after that, it was the “The World’s Best’s” turn to pop the champagne thanks to some ostentatious Nielsen numbers. Like the game before it, the numbers for the show’s debut were not that impressive compared to the other TV shows that have aired in the coveted post-game slot over the last 32 years.

The ratings are in, and the Super Bowl did not resonate as well as CBS expected.
With a 27.9 rating in the demo and 87.7 million total viewers, the numbers are way down from last year's early ratings of 30.9 rating and 103.4 million viewers.
Granted, these figures are still amazing for any TV event, but the lower than usual ratings could be attributed to the fact that game lacked the excitement the previous years had.
In addition, the Half Time show was panned by people who took issue with the fact that it was random, and felt like it was thrown together.
The final ratings will tell the true tale later today, but there's no way the ratings are going to add enough to be on par with last year.
CBS opted to launch The World's Best out of the game, and the first half managed 26.2 million total viewers and an 8.6 rating.

It's the most coveted TV time slot of the entire year: airing right after the Super Bowl. As the biggest sporting event (and biggest advertising day!) of the year rotates annually between CBS, NBC, and Fox, the networks spend a lot of time and consideration on deciding what will be placed in that attention-grabbing spot. Some years, the slot goes to a super-sized episode of a long-running favorite, while other years the networks use the Super Bowl attention to try to launch a new series. This year, CBS is broadcasting the big game - so what have they chosen to air right after?
Instead of giving the spot to one of its existing shows that already has high ratings, CBS has taken the other option: launching a new series in the post-game time slot. The World's Best is set to debut on Feb. 3, immediately following Super Bowl Lii. The series...

CBS will almost certainly claim the highest-rated series premiere of 2018-19 on Sunday night, when talent competition The World's Best debuts following Super Bowl Liii.
Recent history says those big ratings will fade quickly, if not immediately — although the last couple of exceptions to that trend have some things in common with The World's Best.
The Super Bowl is still a huge showcase for whatever program follows it; that show consistently lands among the top-rated and most-watched entertainment programs of the year. But in the past decade-plus, only a handful of those shows have seen any lasting impact ...
