Meta-show!
ThomDerd18 August 2019
It is NOT a reboot ladies and gentlemen. I admit i was very entertained from the first 2 episodes and frankly started feeling awkward once I understood what they are all about in this new series. Self-sarcasm and connection with their artificial characters is present throughout the whole thing. It is a "hint" that they became their characters in these 10 years that the show was running and they now want to talk about it in an entertaining way towards their audience. For old fans, this is a treat but I am not sure yet about "new fans" reactions. 8/10 for the surprise and the novelty!

A pleasant surprise
cpearce-020768 August 2019
Before this started I was thinking how pathetic and embarrassing this sounded, but I was wrong.

It was really well done. Particularly because they addressed and made fun of things in their real lives, like failed marriages, Tori Spelling's money troubles, etc.

My favorite moment is where Ian Ziering explodes at Tori and says "How could you grow up with every advantage in life and still struggle to support your kids?

"It's mind boggling to me!!"

They also did some wonderful, subtle tributes to Luke Perry without being sappy or lingering on it.

I'm really looking forward to next week's episode now.

Fresh and Original

Don't call it a comeback. Don't call it a reboot because it is much better than that. It is cross between reality and fantasy where the cast is willing to make fun of themselves for the sake of the show. Can't wait to see if they can keep it up.

Great concept
jleckmanii-152888 August 2019
I was wondering what the premise of the show was, but the more I watched it I found it creatively done. Great blend between reality and the characters poking fun of their lives. Well done.

This show is juicy, funny, messy and I am all in
jpgr110 August 2019
Hated the first 10 minutes. I was cringing. Then they all met up and the magic started. Love how self-deprecating the script is. We're not laughing at them, we're laughing with them. We all took ourselves so seriously 20 years ago and now that we have some perspective we can look back to laugh and cry at how life can be so messy and unpredictable. There's so much nostalgia wrapped up in this show but at the same time it's very fresh and modern. The sign of a good show is when you're so caught up you lose track of the time and the ending feels abrupt and leaves you wanting more. This is that show!

fun meta-reality show
SnoopyStyle8 November 2019
The original main cast returns to do a meta-reality comedy where the old show exists and the actors are actors on the old show. Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling get the reboot but has to corral the old gang for the new show. Luke Perry's untimely death does put a damper on the proceedings. I'm fine with how they handled the lost. It's great to poke fun at the group's dynamics. In fact, I would push harder to incorporate the actors' real life into the show. Green should have a hot actress wife who overshadows him. A music star may fit the TV role but I want to fit the real-life actor more. Ziering should be best known for a shark B-movie. Doherty should be in trouble for a bad Punk'd show. Priestley actually fits as a struggling TV director. I do love these B-level actors reuniting to relive their better days. That's why I don't want Carteris to be SAG president. It's too big. She should be a working lawyer who does Priestley the favor of representing him after the punch. Garth and Spelling fit. Spelling may actually be the best at playing the wacky version of herself. Those years of reality TV truly pays off. This is fun. It's too bad that there is only six episodes. I would love to see if it gets better in the second season or devolving into a train wreck.

If everyone keeps watching you'll understand. Don't give up. They did Luke Perry justice.

Great fun but could be a great show
stancil-4406615 September 2019
I only vaguely recall the first couple of seasons of 90210 but the characters are iconic and the og show was so much a part of pop culture in it's day that the new show was great fun. The whole Shannon D thing was distracting and disappointing. Why not just own the drama you created? 90210 wasn't the only show she got booted from, why not go with it? Trying to make her a good guy is a missed opportunity for her and the show.

Different and Great!

Warning: Spoilers
Idk why folks are talking about how bad this is. If y'all had read anything about it when this "reboot" was first announced you would know it wasn't the same as the original. The announcement literally said the cast would be shown as their actual person in real life coming together to make a reboot hence playing their fictional character. Y'all think they were just gonna go back to high school?

90210 is OK
plasticanimalz25 August 2019
It's basically if you took 90210 and mashed it with Grosse Pointe, which was a short lived spoof on 90210, you would have this show. I've watched all 3 episodes out so far and not sure where this is going. I enjoyed the first 2 episodes, more for nostalgia sake, than anything else, as the writing was okay, and the acting of the supporting cast is bad, but by episode 3, the writing gets plain bad, and the acting of the supporting cast even worse. Which, was funny, part of the premise of episode 3 is a writer getting fired and the best thing for this show is if they fire all the writers and start over.

I'll go into positives first, and my reason for giving it a 7. The original cast is great. I can't imagine why anyone would be watching this other than for them. My favorite is the chemistry between Jennie and Tori. Their scenes together really sell the show. Acting-wise, Jennie I would say is the best. Seeing Carol Potter as a therapist is really cute, and it was fun to see her and comforting. Tori, while the weakest of the actors, why she worked on the show is her cute, silly factor. I really liked the whole trekking through Peru to find Shannon, that was actually funny. And her line asking what coach is on a flight. Very Downton Abbey. And I always had a soft spot for Andrea on the show, and the nicest of the cast in real life, along with Luke.

I'm sure the networks hope is this will sell a bunch of the old series, merch, and maybe it will launch into a new series. If they want to make this work my best suggestion is hire writers who were actually around when the show was on and are familiar with the show, and the actors, and the impact they had on society. I saw the writers room pic and everyone but the head writers look 25, and my thought was, "How do they know what this show is about?" They clearly don't. And, even if they didn't they're terrible writers. I watched some of the old series recently, and it's cute and cheesy. Basically, Disney Channel for people who've grown out of Disney. But that was comforting, and it was a good show, despite that. The writing on the new series, particularly on the 3rd episode, is Freeform level writing. I would have to think network TV still pays well, but maybe no one wants them anymore and are all shooting for Netflix or HBO.

The new concept of the cast playing themselves...could work, but there are only so many storylines you can really tap into. Would have been easier just to reboot as the original series, but it is sort of fun seeing the actors as sort of themselves. People they should get rid of is Christine Elise, Shay, and the redhead writer. They're not good actors. Shay is a terrible actor. Aside from that I don't buy she's Beyonce or Brian's wife. Christine's acting comes and goes, she looks nothing like she used to...and they have to keep repeating she's Emily Valentine 'cause no one remember who she is or probably cares.

I realize they only have 6 episodes to play with but the whole Gabrielle Carteris lesbian storyline is a bit rushed. Neither Andrea or Gabrielle would be so callous to her husband. It's a fun idea but the execution is not great. Frankly, their approach makes lesbians look like cold-hearted jerks, and not doing the community any favors. And Andrea is a favorite, no one wants to see her be a jerk. Gabrielle Carteris cried 'cause she missed her husband on the reality show The Surreal Life. I just don't see her being like, I have these feelings, I'm going to explore them, you don't like it? Tough cookies. Very have your cake and eat it too. It would have been better if they made her on the outs with her husband or having problems, then the bi-curious thing comes up. That makes her still likable. Her having a loving husband she's supposedly in love with, then she's going to do what suits her, not caring what he feels makes her unlikeable. Writing 101, which, again, why they should fire the writers.

The whole scene with Ian and the writer was super annoying. In real life, if he told some girl to get him coffee, she better get it, or at the very least, disappear. In real life, whether you like or not, they're god on set, and you would be fired, and if Ian really didn't like you, could tell every studio you're difficult and you never get hired again. The union doesn't protect you for not getting coffee. They're there to ensure you get paid and pay their dues, and hopefully not get sexually harassed, but even then they most likely won't do anything about it, as you can see why Harvey Weinstein got away with that craziness for so long. I have had an acting friend rat on a director for sexual harassment and he got fired, so, it is possible. But he was also a nobody. Then he compliments her eyes and she says it's offensive. Get a grip. Women and men LOVE compliments. It's the best way to start a conversation. The only people who don't like compliments are the ones who never get them. They don't like others getting compliments. All Steve Sanders has is swagger, then they're going to neuter him like a dog, so what is the point of him being there? Promoting offense over trivial things is not doing the MeToo movement any favors. It makes women look trivial. If you cry wolf at every little thing, no one is going to be there when it actually matters. Women need rights and protection, not to be coddled.

I hope the show gets better. I enjoy watching the original cast. The stalker storyline, while a good idea, doesn't have a lot of punch to it. There's no tension. Maybe they're a little too all over the place. Again, bad writing. And the dream sequence, total amateur writing. Another writing 101 of what not to do. And, we get it, every episode will open with a dream sequence of a different actor. Was fine the first time, but by ep. 3 it's getting redundant.

So, my overall rating is probably more like a 5 based on all 3 episodes. I made my rating after watching 2 episodes, and the show itself was really about a 6, but I gave it a 7 for my enjoyment value of seeing the original cast.

WTF?!
julieact8 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I want to start by saying I was a huge fan of the 1990's version of this show. I'm not even sure what this is!! It appears in the 1st episode that they're playing semi- autobiographical versions of the actors NOT the characters. Are they going to actually play the characters? I thought this was going to be a reboot of the original. All I kept thinking was when are we going to see the characters? What the HELL is this show? 100% disappointing and this episode was a waste of my time. I will watch the next one to see if they do actually use the characters but if not, I'm done.

Hate It!

I was so excited to see this. The acting is terrible and I hate that they are "themselves" in real life. I was hoping to see an actual reboot of 90210. This blows.

jennifere-461-3804208 August 2019
Not quite as expected. Thought this was a reboot of the characters as adults, turns out it's about the actors portraying themselves. Not that entertaining to be honest.

Great start to a great show
arturopena9 August 2019
Don't listen to the people giving it 1 star or trashing it, they were never fans of the original. If you are a true fan of the show, characters, actors and lived through the whole series you will absolutely LOVE this show.

Recommended for true fans of the original and our generation, all others can come in and absorb a piece of TV history.

Idiotic
Ripshin9 September 2019
OK, I never watched the original. But yet, I have watched five episodes of this garbage. Oh, SO "meta." So precious.

Will they really go beyond this limited series? The ratings have been a mess. But, I'm watching it. I'll give it the final episode, but not beyond that.

And, please god, stop the minions from bringing us supposed reboots of "Frasier" and "Designing Women." "Murphy Brown" did SO well.

Ugh.

100% Fun for True Beverly Hills 90210 Fans
cowboylove-774448 August 2019
Loved It, lots of laughs. If you were a fan of the Original show, you will enjoy this show. It's exactly what they said they were gonna put out. It's a show for the fans- a show in a show. They play off scenes from the Original series, and the Rumors that followed the stars. I can't wait for the next episodes. Thanks for the ride down memory lane.

Not what I expected, but turned out to be more than expected!
davorin-buzaljko9 August 2019
I was confused at first but it turned out this approach is original, fresh and this show can offer more than expected. At some points acting was strange, like they were doing this for the first time, but I can understand how they felt after 20 years and one person missing from their lives. But storyline is promising and can't wait for the next episode. If you were 90210 fan in 90s, you'll love this version too. Keep watching and don't give up after 10 minutes (like other negative reviews did).

Nostalgic but lacks something
arsmehta8 August 2019
Huge 90210 fan from the 90s.. seen every episode and probably 3x.

That said, I have been waiting for a reunion for a number of years and although I am glad they decided to comeback the first episode fell short of my expectations.

Without giving anything away I thought it was goofy, had kind of all over the place and at times really overacted.

The upside here is that it was only episode 1 and maybe it will get better but right now I don't have much inkling to watch episode 2 and beyond.

Would not recommend
lbennett-541758 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The show is now shot like a reality tv show and does not work. A very messy plot If there is one is unclear and jumps around frequently, this show would work as a teen drama not as an adult drama where everyone is cheating on their spouses.

I Prayed and God Listened
scottroxmphs7 September 2019
I know this sounds sad, especially coming from a 45 year old man, but this is the happiest television has ever made me. I could sit and watch these actors eat a chicken salad sandwich and receive as much joy. BH90120 takes me back to a time when North America was happy. Imagine a world where MTV played videos, no reality TV, and Wilson Phillips and Richard Marx rules the airwaves with their songs of encouragement, heartbreak, and love. God those were great times and at the front of the pack was Beverly Hills 90210. I was 16 in 1990 when I tuned in for the first time. I just knew the smokin' hot chick from "Our House" was in this show. Instantly I wanted to be Steve Sanders although I desired to have the chops like Brandon Walsh. I rock the sideburns to this very day and when my wife asked me to shave them off I told her I'm willing the show back on the air. Low and behold I did it! My family leaves the room at 7:58pm so I can have zero interruptions when the show begins. I wondered how they were gonna soon the new series and within the first two minutes I was hooked. Jennie Garth looks like she stepped out of a time machine that made her hotter than she was in the nineties. I don't want to give anything away but I love the drop-ins from cast members over the decade run of the show. I screamed like my daughter at a Jonas Bros. concert when I heard the first chords of "How Do You Talk To An Angel" the other night. Seriously, this makes me so happy. It takes me back to my bedroom I had as a teenager. I've needed this in my life. Jason, Ian, and Brian are awesome. I know they understand these characters are important to us like they are to them. I appreciate how they don't take themselves so seriously and make fun of their personal lives with little jabs here and there. What endears me to this show the most is how they've put aside any beef with each other in the past and have reunited for the fans. This is something many a rock band could learn a lesson from. Do you hear me Eddie? I am anxiously awaiting the final episode of the season and I hope this gets renewed for a second season. If you don't get goosebumps when you see the Peach Pit, you have no soul. And before you ask, yes I do have a license plate that reads "I8A 4RE". Christmas came early this year for me and every fan of this show. The next morning after the pilot I walked downstairs and asked Alexa to play "The Right Kind of Love" and "Love Is". My kids looked at me like I had three heads when I started dancing in the kitchen but I didn't care. I was happy. Truly, genuinely happy. Thank you FOX and all the cast from BH90210.
