Not bad
ArcherAdam25 April 2019
An okay little thriller that is well shot, contains some pretty decent acting, and an interesting - if not totally original - plot.

Essentially a man with severe PTSD sets off into a popular cruising area in an attempt to find out what happened to his brother. There, he meets an asthmatic player who may have had something to do with the brother's disappearance.

The movie loses steam the closer it gets to the conclusion, which requires more suspension of disbelief than I'm able to give it. But the before part is far more interesting and entertaining than the resolution. It's almost as if the writer ran out of ideas for what to do with these two men, and simply decided to abruptly end it. Either that, or entire scenes were lost.

Even so, there is still a lot to like about the movie. The cinematography is interesting, the actors are better than you might expect (and do justice to two characters who are generally unlikable), and the dialogue rises above the popcorn you're used to seeing in movies like this.

I've complained for a long time that movies with gay themes are often bad. That tend to cover the same territory over and over again (HIV, coming out, homophobia, etc). So it's nice to see a film that tries something a little different, even when it doesn't always succeed.

Actually Quite A Good Psychological Exploration Of Loneliness
omendata14 June 2020
This was a real surprise - good photography, superlative acting from Stephen Twardokus; he stole the whole movie for me.

A read a few reviews before i decide to watch a movie but its getting quite hard to garner the proper reviews from the shills but still it astounds me how many people cannot properly review a movie - we now have the shills who are bigging up movies with constant 10/10 reviews - this means its the best movie you have ever seen and these come by once in a blue moon, then there are the ones who just review a movie on the criteria that its not real life or the plot is too bizarre - life is bizarre; going to the cinema is all about being removed from reality; its called fiction.

So here is how i review a movie - If it keeps me watching ,involved and i can leave reality behind and become immersed in the film regardless of how unconventional the plot or story is - i don't go looking for mistakes or whether anything is of the period, if the soldiers have the correct jacket lapel or drives the right jeep - who does that?

If the movie elicits emotions; a tear or two or makes you feel good, bad or makes you think then that is a success for me and this film does many of those things - it is well shot and in the end it does ask us questions of our lives and how we live them. I found the end very touching and I am sure this is what the writers were attempting to give to the viewer, perhaps from their own experiences of life and that makes it a good movie for me. It is not oscar winning material nor does it pretend to be but it has something more to say than the usual stalk, slash, blood and gore horror movies and i like that so sue me!

Poor lighting
junknspam7 February 2021
The action scenes after dark are so dark you can't tell who is going after whom. Might as well turn the screen off and guess what is going on by hearing just the soundtrack.

good intentions
Kirpianuscus30 March 2024
I saw with sympathy the first part. With hope, in same measure, to. But the final feeling was about an unrealistic story, saved by JD Scalzo good look and by forest, remembering other films from same genre, and proposing a sort of not very inspired chain of improvisations. And the end, expression of good intentions, works not fine exactly.

Two guys on bench, in forest. Talk, confessions, the bad men hunting them, in a small place discovering the truth about them, a lost brother and terrible childhood, a murder of past and a bizarre survive after knife hit today and , in essence, unfortunately, nothing new. The dark of few scenes is so...dark than the effort to identify the people is one of precious gifts.

Sure, good intentions. But, after final credits, some bitter taste about waste of time.

The story is weak. The characters are weak. The premise is entirely unbelievable at best.

Amateur LBGT themed movie - not horror
gustheaffen31 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Looks can be deceiving and when a gay man on a trail know for gay pick-ups sets his sights on an another guy that rejects him he suddenly has an injury and convinces him to help him which turns into an ordeal. Dialogue is always very stilted and weird. We learn what the main characters deal and issues are. Not a very satisfying conclusion and not horror either. Very unrealistic that he could trick people into chasing them for hours on end into the night. I would think those individuals would have given up and reported it. And completely unbelievable one asthmatic guy could take on two other guys with no weapons. Attempt at suspense but that was even really a let down.

Turn off the dialogue
derekthayer20 May 2020
About halfway in, I turned the settings on my surround sound speakers off for the dialogue. Without the weird and disjointed plot and script, the cinematography and music were atmospheric and tense. There were a number of scenes that were intense and claustrophobic, and coveyed a very real sense of unease, fear and suspicion.

Then I looked up the actual plot. And it was terrible. It really was a shame this movie's story brought the film down. The photography and lighting were pretty good, as was the accompanying soundtrack.

Worth Watching
chrnappa16 August 2021
Overall a decent thriller with some good plot twists. As some have said here, these are not always unexpected, but they are generally well handled. I didn't think the dialogue dragged the plot down giving it a slow pace, even if there is some unevenness here and there. Aspects of the ending are bleak, but there are surprises. As in many horror movies, monstrosity breeds monstrosity, whether it is recognized or not. The story could have been clearer in places, but generally worth watching for anyone who likes some darkness in lgbtq films.

Psychological thriller with gay men
revenentswrath20 May 2020
Pretty okay but I expected more actual horror in this. I still find it sad people have ever had to hook up in such an odd way though it's probably how I'd best hookup with someone in all honesty. Not what I was expecting but a good film.

Gripping Gay Themed Thriller
kitablett9 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I hate to disagree with someone else's review, but, far from laughing at this movie, I felt quite depressed by the end of it. Sure, towards the end, the story becomes slightly far-fetched but I certainly wasn't bored with it and a brilliant directorial debut for Matthew Montgomery (whom I've always admired as an actor) with both the actors and the great and ominous atmosphere of the film, which is spot on. The actor who plays Noah seems somewhat older than the Patrick character, despite obvious plastic surgery, but both main actors give brilliant performances with their ambiguous characters (not knowing which of them is the bad guy or the good guy, which I found fascinating). It's always hard to write a story which has twists and turns without it being a little hard to believe and I think the screen play was a pretty good effort. Disappointed that sexy Steve Callahan only had a small role ,as the ranger, in it, but always great to see him in anything and, of course,a cameo from Montgomery himself.. Rather a unusual scenario actually, being set in a gay beat in the woods and, apart from the flaws in the mystery near the end, a really good and gripping film and highly recommended, as long as one isn't feeling depressed to begin with, don't miss it... .

Suspenseful film
rklein12324 November 2022
I'm not really sure why there are reviews dishing this film because it's not "horror." It's listed as "drama/thriller." Personally, I'd list it as suspense. Thought it was a very good, well done movie. The acting was very good, and the two main protagonists kept the plot moving with a lot of ambiguity. My mind was trying to predict where things were going, but the screenplay was always a step ahead.

There are quite a few twists along the Devil's Path, a cruising area in a large wooded park. I kept shifting my suspicions between characters as to who was good, and who was dangerous. There are plenty of twisting side paths and red herrings along this Devil's Path. And the suspense builds as the sun sets.

There are a few places where some poetic license left me wondering..., "whaaat?" But I've seen bigger budget films that took more license, and made less factual sense.

The action keeps your interest throughout the movie, but I found the timeline of the very ending perplexing. No idea how long after the prior scene it was supposed to take place. I think it would have helped me had that been better defined.

I suppose it's a gay film because the characters and setting are gay. But really, the story wasn't inherently gay, and could have worked with other situations. Think "Deliverance." It worked really well here.

Turn off the lights, turn on the movie, and get ready for some SUSPENSE.

Good thriller from beginning to end.
amheba27 January 2021
Don't be fooled by the terrible poster of this film which seems cheap. This movie has a very good quality with good cinematography, good photography, good sound and good editing.

The actors are quite good as well and the story has lots of twists and turns so it keeps being interesting the whole way through. And a plus point for being an LGTBI themed story!!

Despite the surprising low ratings, if you enjoy thrillers I would say give it a go!

Agatha Christie, Alfred Hitchcock...this one will give them a run for the money
bgoo-1989028 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I am a gay man with no talent. Just opinions.

Everything about this movie is major studio quality on an indie budget. Lets start with the actors. Stephen Twardokus as Noah and JD Scalzo as Patrick are the main characters or protagonists as you will see when you watch. They really got into the characters. That brings me to the excellent direction and writing by Mathew Montgomery. This is a story that will catch you up after the first few minutes. Then hold on, the first drop on this rollercoaster is about to start. Then it is one hell of a ride. That will keep you fixated till the last twist.

Grab the popcorn and a drink before you tune in. You won't wanna mis a second.

Surprisingly good
RoyMince28 September 2023
Let me start off by saying that this film is surprisingly good with an impactful twist, and it's one of those foods that you want to get your snacks and drinks and get comfortable prior because you will not want to miss one second. Nothing like a good slasher thriller, that is done differently. That's what makes this phone really cool and worth the watch. Big shout out to the Director produces the cast and crew everybody. That's a part of the team to put together a film that has a psychological twist and a pretty decent ending. Overall, this film deserves two thumbs up and I would recommend watching this film and make sure you got your drink some popcorn ready.
