The last time the Intercontinental Championship main evented a PPV was WWF Backlash (2001) as part of a "Winner Take All" match with the WWF Championship and the Tag Team Championships. The last time it was defended by itself in the main event was Summerslam (1992).
During the Iron Man Match, around the 24 minute mark, the WWE Universe started counting down the final seconds of every minute and imitating the buzzer noise, as if it was the Royal Rumble match. At one point, the clock went off the Titantron (whether intentionally or accidentally) so they started doing the countdown at random times. When the clock reappeared on the screen just after the 10 minute mark, the crowd cheered.
This Pay-Per-View saw Bo Dallas, member of the famous Rotunda wrestling family, win his first main-roster WWE Title, ironically beating his brother Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy to win the RAW Tag Team Titles with Curtis Axel, son of the legendary Mr. Perfect. This also marked Curtis' second title under the Axel character, third title overall, and second Tag Team title including previous characters.
Daniel Bryan and Kane reunited as Team Hell No for one last time in this PPV in a losing effort against The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan).
