In a sense I reckon this is like many love stories ... where the young individuals in love have the biggest obstacle to overcome - their parents and their upbringing/heritage. In this case it is about East and West Germany. Back when Germany was reunited ... in the 90s - we get glimpses and real life footage from when things happened ... and what happened. And all those things play into the story too - one way or another.
An intriguing movie to say the least - but it might mostly spark your interest to find out what happened when those two cultures clashed together. A bit like marriage - at first there is a honeymoon phase, everyone is happy ... and then reality kicks in and you start realising certain things about the ... other(s).
Well played and acted the movie gives insight into a few things you may be aware if you lived the situation. Intersting if slightly flawed - if you don't mind the drama, this is really good though.
