It's not about social and political themes, it's about choice
BubblingCauldron7 July 2021
I don't understand all the reviews about how the movie is missing the point of social and political hate.

That's not the movie theme.

The movie is about *choices*: how hate (or love) can condition people's choices and what are the consequences of every choice.

Good photography.

A film that doesn't discuss its own theme
lucentigiordano9 October 2020
There are unfortunately very few good things that I can say about this movie. I decided a 6 as rating because above all there aren't many big problems that would force me to call it bad. It's a perfectly enjoyable movie, it doesn't have enormous flaws and I'm sure some might find it a nice personal experience. Unfortunately that's all, there is literally nothing else good enough to be worth mentioning. Now I'm referring to aspects such as Direction, Screenplay, Acting etc. that are nothing to be taken example by, it's not a movie that will be studied in cinema schools or that will be an inspiration to future cineasts. But now let's talk about the themes, that seems to be the main focus of the film. Well...there are no themes. As you will know from the trailer, everything starts when a jewish doctor leaves a neo-nazist man to bleed in his car, so It's fair to assume that the focus of the film will be Neo-Nazism, the concept of hate, of intolerance, an interesting, as much as contemporary issue. Unfortunately that's not the case. The rest is simply....things happening, people meeting people, someone gets shot, all without an apparent connection. I don't know if the director's intent were some sort of neorealism interpretation, but even so, it's a little disappointing to go see a movie who supposedly was to follow the way of American History X, and ending up with an empty shell of nothingness instead.

No direction

The film starts with an interesting premise, and quickly gets boring as all the events seem to go nowhere and try to nothing, I was really expecting something more, but it's predictable brings nothing new to the table.

Very contrived

Well acted but very contrived drama that never really explores the themes of racial and political hate. The social commentary is very formulaic. I wouldn't say that this is a bad movie, it's rather extremely weak.

Little gem. Very well directed.

Little gem. A very well directed and acted movie which intrigues the viewer as it moves from a strong rather melodramatic start to a more subtle and unspoken development. As the movie departs from poignant scenes to embrace realism, characters leave stereotipes and come to the truth that we are all humans with feelings, fears and hopes. Differences are in the surface. Great photography which magnify the beauty of the city of Trieste.
