My heart can't take so much cuteness
mahmus28 June 2020
I can't deny the emotional impact this had on me.

It's very rare for a show or movie to get this emotionally invested in the characters and their stories. My heart could barely take it.

It's the cutest, most heartwarming thing ever. I really want to see where these characters end up in the future, how their relationships develope, and how they deal with their problems. I really care about them.

Damn you Bloom Into You for making me care so much about so much about these fictional characters!

Absouletely love love this Yuri anime <3
Irishchatter30 December 2018
This is one of the best Yuri anime series of 2018, I just love Touko and Yuu so much as a young couple. I'm so down for reading the manga now because honestly, its just such a beauitful story involving 2 high school girls in love and the animation is splendid as well! I definitely recommend this to anyone who are fans of the romance genre, 9/10 this series deserves!

Some of the most real characters I've seen
jake-e-cotton5 March 2021
This has some of the most in depth and developed characters I've seen in an anime. It's not just your standard Yuri, but it goes super in depth for each character and they feel fully real and I connected to them in ways I thought I wouldn't for any other character. This is a beautiful anime and it wastes no time in any episode.

The only reason this isn't a 10 is because it needs a second season to finish the story, I hope it gets more attention so it will get it.

Excellent yuri
abhyudayshahi20 November 2020
Bloom into You isn't just a yuri anime, it transcends that boundary. Although the premise may seem simple, the character development and emotional rollercoaster will take you aback. Accompanied by soft visuals and minimalistic music, the show tells the story of a girl who's unable to love, and a girl who's locked away herself, the show serves as a beautiful introspection into how we perceive each other and how we perceive ourself. A must watch

Nice Yuri!
jaysshukla7 November 2020
It felt like a cute drama. The story is so beautifully presented. The main characters Yuu and Touko were not only the cute couples but their respective personalities were nicely explored through various circumstances or challenges. The scenes, especially the emotional ones, are brilliantly executed. Especially that lake scene in which Yuu and Touko come closer to each other by skipping stones while discussing about being ready to face all possible obstacles, seems to be one of the unforgettable ones.

I have only watched couple of Yuri anime so far but this one seems to be a must watch for Himejoshi and Himedanshi.

Loved it, but I want answers.
pantandpants23 June 2022
I thought the anime was really good and I read the manga a while ago so I kind of forgot what happens so I was very excited to watch the anime adaptation. It had me squealing and I do not squeal but WHY did it end like that. There were so many things left unresolved and I'm pulling my hair out one by one because frankly I am frustrated. I would definitely watch it again, but why.

I was not prepared. This is a masterpiece!
bendashwood28 January 2022
Wow... just... wow. I started this show with something like "probably gonna be just another generic, cheesy and silly girly love drama", but boy was I in for a ride. This series does not take long to show its outstanding strengths which I'll try to list without spoilers:

+ The characters are seriously deep, every one being portrayed in a distinctive way, down to earth, with very relatable personality traits and flaws. Even the side characters are very well fleshed out and enthrall you with their own struggles and stories.

+ It is captivating without being overly dramatic at any point.

+ It is fun and humorous without being silly

+ The animation style is calm and very detailed.

+ The soundtrack is very well selected and perfectly applied.

+ The story is way more than 'girls dancing around each other' or the mandatory love triangle. It focuses a lot on one's individual perception and experience of romance. For some people it's easier than for others, some people cannot relate to it at all. And this is fine. It never seems to be displayed as a kind of 'disability' in this show.

+ The fact that the main story revolves around two girls discovering each other seems rather coincidential. It's never about "our secret/forbidden love, fighting against the odds of a society that shuns us" kind of thing. This is indeed rare, as "Bloom into you" is often compared to other Yuri dramas like "Citrus". I believe this is incredibly misleading. Yes, homosexuality is a part of "Bloom into you"'s story. But it's far from being its unique selling point. I'd go as far as saying it would work just as well if either of the main characters was a boy instead.

In terms of criticism, honestly not very much comes to mind.

  • Some of the 'zoning out moments' seem to be set up just a tiny bit over the top (i.e. The dramatic train-passage pauses). Not so much that it hurts, but it is notable.

  • The show does not capture the entirety of the manga. The anime series aired sometime end of 2018 whereas the manga was only finished in 2020. The anime does by no means have a bad ending, but still feels incomplete as of the time of this review. I have revisited this show many times already and still can't forgive the studio for not finishing the story properly. With four additional mangas as well as three light novels revolving around the somewhat tragic character of Sayaka Saeki there would be more than enough material.

Never in my life have I bought mangas before, but watching this show enticed me to buy the entire series of eight books and the additional three light novels, which give the characters a way better (and well-deserved) closure. And I'm pretty sure that I do not even belong to the target audience of this anime. Manga author Nio Nakatani created nothing short of a masterpiece while the anime interpretation stays very close and honest to the written foundation, enriching it with beautiful animation, emotional (Japanese) voiceover and a soundtrack to remember.

Long story short: Definite recommendation! This is one of the best and down-to-earth series I have ever watched. For people that have been struggling with either love or romantic feelings in general, it might even have therapeutic character. Watch it!

Flawless
Mysterygeneration16 January 2024
There are forms to love that the universe may never fully understand. Is it not true that we can never fully comprehend human emotions? What does being in love entail? What makes humans lust for one another? We will never be able to discover the answer to this issue in our flawed environment. Because of our imperfections, we were made in the image of our creator.

The craft of anime adaptations is a multifaceted and intriguing topic. Although I'm rather open-minded about almost any genre, I have no strong feelings for yuri or shoujo-ai. I wasn't too impressed by the shoujo-ai adaptations that came out recently, like Citrus or Netsuzou Trap. Due to their combative attitudes toward relationships, both of those shows really disappointed me. Instead of supporting sexual relationships between people of the same gender that rely on shock value, I wanted to see a more tender aspect of the shoujo-ai genre. Thank goodness, Yagate Kimi no Naru has the solution.

Although I don't know much about the shoujo-ai fandom, it's obvious that the manga is well-liked. The series began publication in April 2015 in the Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh, and as of right now, more than 500k copies have been printed. But after seeing the cast of the anime adaption, I was also intrigued. When Makoto Katou directed the mystery light novel adaptation "Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation" back in 2015, it left a fairly intriguing impression. Even though there isn't much mystery in this series, it made me wonder if it has any similar mystique. It's true that Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Bloom Into You) provided me the desired shoujo-ai at last.

First-year high school student Yuu Koito thinks of love as a mythical idea and likes shoujo manga. However, when Touko Nanami, a second-year student, enters her life, she starts to taste life and love. Touko faces difficulties in love, but her steady nature is what makes her admirable. But because of her history, she is insecure and lonely, which makes her rely on Yuu. Yuu, on the other hand, frequently downplays her emotions but is more cautious about love. Because of Yuu's indecisive nature-which extends to her own future-it is challenging for them to establish a sincere bond.

Well, damn time is almost here. For a long time, I had little interest in shoujo-ai dramas, but after watching Yagate Kimi ni Naru, I might have a change of heart. I was astonished by how well this play captured the expression of love. It took advantage of the chance to imitate a dramatic scene without going too far. You won't receive sexual shock content all over your face, so keep your pants on. You get a drama that is executed in the most captivating way imaginable. It's practically flawless.

Not quite as cheesy as the premise suggests
300Megahertz24 September 2020
Quite the opposite; it has much more depth than I initially thought. It is a heart warming story about finding love and unrequited love.

The plot itself might be simple, yet intriguing and has a pleasant pacing. The characters all feel fleshed out and aren't overly cliched and just unreasonable like in many other animes. Not to to say that Bloom Into You is void of cliche; but it doesn't wield it like a sword.

It's interesting seeing an anime that reminds that love doesn't work like it does in manga or anime (although it kind of does here, too, but nevermind).

Very sweet, and cuteness overload
vdexoto5 November 2021
It's just that it's cute it's fun, it's bordering silly at times.

If you are into yuri then I would totally recommend.

The struggles within the caracters just make it cute and warm.

Would love a sequal.

Something i almost cried about
jaimesgame27 July 2022
When i was watching the first episode I thought it would be dragged out like modern anime but i was hell wrong. I was shocked that they went for the romance part so early but it was one sided till the end. Watching this know warms my hearth and want more but its seems ill be left in the dark for know till i find something like this masterpiece that made me feel special in a way.

Tbh i was expecting nothing much but a classic same sex anime where it gets dragged out but how they made this formula of writing work and executing it was heartwarming. Made me feel special relating to Yuu who was someone who never thought of them selves to be special and never experiencing love but overtime she knew how it feel.

I support any sort of love and i care for the people who will do anything for it i hope i can find my mark sometime in the future and thank you who ever made this for the emotional ride. I held tears back but if I didn't my bed would be soaked heh.

Too much kilig!
huilingdab24 May 2022
I have never watched anything romantic that made me feel this much excitement. From the first episode I was already hooked and can't get enough of it. It is so cute and wonderful, the story is amazing and doesn't feel forced, but instead, it so natural, like how things would really be in high school. The characters and their personalities are also well written and portrayed. And the soundtrack, love it! I can't get enough of it, totally recommend it especially to those who are interested in this type of stories.

They have a perfect ending in the manga
kikaventura5 January 2022
I love this anime and the ending of season one.

Since season two is taking forever I went ahead and started reading the manga online from the chapter matching the end of season one forward, and man when you think it can't get better it does.

The whole depht of it is insanly beautiful and so worth your time, not to meantion you see these two and their story grow, and end up getting, in my opinion a close to perfect ending.

Really good fun and cute anime, does seem a little problematic to me
celaina-8951510 May 2023
Bloom into you

The anime is about two girls who have both never fallen in love, untill they meet each other. One is obviously more in love then other one, and in the anime we follow their story as friends and/or more.

The anime itself is very cute, kinda wholesome and it suckes you right into the story.

Besides being an overall wonderfull anime, there was one thing that just didn't sit right with me. One of the girls quite clearly only giving consent to kissing just so the other will stop pushing her. Most of the kissing scenes are pretty one sided, which for me just made me uncomfortable watching them.

Luckily that is the only bad thing about this anime (in my opinion).

While watching I was always interested and exited for what is gonna happen next, it was also able to keep my attention quite good.

The characters themselves are really fun as well. They are all very loveable, and the anime shows their background stories so easy to understand where someone is coming from.

And the two main characters have a really fun to see dynamic.

I also racon that a lot of people are going to be able to recognize themselves in one of the characters in some way, shape or form. Because all of the characters have different struggles and different ways they expience love.

As well as giving you a fun ride, the anime also exceeds into giving you a emotional ride. Nearly every character has a struggle that they deal with, and I think they are pretty accurate and could be quite common struggles too.

And on top of all that, the representation is quite good as well, except for the one girl who wasn't lesbian anymore (but I don't believe any of that). There is a lot of lesbian representation, but also headcanon aroace and demi aroace representation.

Conclusion, Bloom into you is a really good and wholesome anime with lovable characters but does sadly have some borderline problematic scenes in it.

(This is all purly my opinion, and I am not stating all of this as facts)

Wholesome and feels pretty realistic
Rakshun19 March 2023
My, my, do I have to just repeat what I wrote about Kase-san and Morning Glories? (Missed that one? You shouldn't, worth that hour!) So yeah, this is a heart warming, quite mature, pretty realistic, non annoying show which keeps it main characters in the focus the whole time, even though it has quite likeable and polished side characters? I know it's yuri, but I wished the two guys could get more scenes, I liked them too.

Others praised it enough, let's just add that unlike in the case of Kase-san and Morning Glories we have a much more balanced relationship here, especially if you read the manga, because unfortunatelly, the anime stops somewhere around the end of volume 5, and there are three more books after that (one is dedicated to the play, and the last two draws a nice ending arc). I guess, that could be the only negative thing I can mention, because, I really, really liked how the silent and quite passive Yuu takes the initiative at the end. It's depicted in the show but in the manga they went great lenghts with it, even as far as to make the next step in their relationship. (Don't be naughty, it's natural part of the story.)

Plus, the English dub is nice.

I can't emphasize enough how wholesome it is. It definitely leaves other shows like Citrus or Sakura Trick in the dust, as of today this is best yuri show out there, imho.

(Give it a three episode treatment, if you unsure about your preferences. But be warned, you will feel quite empty, after watching it. I'm off to watch Citrus now and well... that's a _bit_ different ;) Or check Kase-san and Morning Glories, because that's a sweet little gem. If you look for something more dirty, a less innocent girl-saves-girl story with some bad girls and bad guys - but less trashy than Citrus, geez, that's sick, that girl is sick -, so NTR: Netsuzou Trap is an interesting one.)
