Sometimes you have to change your perspective to really understand just how special a place is! That is what this film does for the Driftless Area - 24,000 square miles of gorgeous landscape located in portions of Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota that were not glaciated during the most recent Ice Ages. Flying high above the Upper Mississippi River Valley and going deep underground into hidden limestone carved caves with meandering rivers are just part of the journey. Learn how this uniquely sculpted region of the world was formed and how conservation efforts are attempting to preserve it for the future. The film crew are scientists and adventurers who take us on a tour of fascinating features such as algific talus slopes, goat valleys, sinkholes, effigy mounds, bluffs, and valleys. Don't miss this beautiful follow-up, in-depth film whose predecessor won a regional Emmy (Mysteries of the Driftless) in 2016.

Mesmerizing film of an ancient & modern land in the heart of the U.S.!

Bravo! 10 stars. What a labor of love for the filmmakers and their families. I now live back in the fun and beautiful La Crosse, WI area on the Minnesota side where the Mississippi River and several lakes (including Blue & Turtle Lakes by La Crescent) and streams meander through our two states crowned by ancient river bluffs. This mesmerizing film reveals just how spectacular the Driftless Area (aka Driftless Region) is that covers the corners of four states (WI-MN-IA-IL). I've given several DVDs & Blu-Rays as gifts, and people love to share it with their family and friends because they had no idea of the many secrets the region has including its natural and cultural history going back not only millennia, but also millions of years because the region survived many ice ages instead of being razed to the ground as "drift" (silt, clay, sand, gravel, and boulders) like so many other places did.
