The war against IS has ended but the city is still unsafe. Booby trapped homes and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the neighborhoods are looming fears for returning refugees. Ahmaied Hamad Khalaf and his family returned home after the fighting subsided to find that their home was no longer the same. In Home After War, Ahmaied shares his story and invites you into his family's home to experience for yourself what it's like to fear the home you once loved.

This VR experience takes you to Fallujah - a city that was until recently under Islamic State (IS) control. The war against IS has ended but the city is still unsafe. There's one looming fear for returning refugees - booby trapped homes and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in their neighbourhoods. Since the end of the war thousands of civilians have died because of the presence of IEDs. Ahmaied Hamad Khalaf and his family returned home after the fighting subsided. In the experience, you find yourself in Ahmaied's home, captured using photogrammetry. The house still shows signs of the damage from the war. You can explore Ahmaied's home by either walking physically or teleporting in the space. Ahmaeid will take you through his home where he tells you his tragic story.
