The stardate (57436.2) places this episode about 2.5 years after Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant in Endgame (2001).
Ensign Rutherford's Vulcan cybernetic implants seem to be a nod to Regeneration (2003), where one of the scientists commented, "I met a Vulcan scientist who wore a prosthesis; he lost his forearm. It's pretty sophisticated, but it doesn't compare to this."
The animators use the wiki encyclopedia "Memory Alpha" to make sure every design aspect of the series fits with Star Trek canon.
Ensign Barnes asks Rutherford if he's heard of a classic Earth band called the Monkees, to which he responds, "I'm a believer" (the title of one of the Monkees' biggest hits). This continues the Star Trek franchise's assertion that people in the distant future will still be obsessed with 20th century art and culture, even, apparently, non-humans, as Barnes is a Trill.
At 19:41, the black "rage goo" on the Vulcan crew member's face resembles a Van Dyke beard, which was worn by the mirror universe Spock from Mirror, Mirror (1967).
