- TriviaThe episode cites several of the Star Trek movies: the prolonged shuttle tour around the Cerritos in dry dock references Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979); the egregious amount and style of the lens flares on the Cerritos' bridge are reminiscent of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013); the crash of the Cerritos bears similarities to the crash of the Enterprise-D in Star Trek: Generations (1994); the scene with Vindicta's escape pod mirrors the scene with Spock's photon torpedo casket in the end of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982); and the style of the credits with the signatures of the "cast" during the credits is taken from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991).
- GoofsWhen Capt. Freeman wants Mariner beamed back up to the ship, she taps her communicator badge and says, "Freeman to Cerritos: One to beam up." Mariner is then beamed up a few seconds later.
However, all throughout "Star Trek" lore, when a character makes such a simple beam-up request, that character has been the person or among the people being beamed up. There's no way in this case that the transporter operator would've known to beam up Mariner instead of Freeman.
- Quotes
[Mariner, as Vindicta, is fighting a holographic version of herself on a crashed Cerritos]
Vindicta: That's it. Keep up the act.
Holographic Ensign Beckett Mariner: [laughing] Oh, you know so much about me, but you missed one big thing.
Vindicta: Oh, yeah, here we go -- time for one of your snarky jokes.
Holographic Ensign Beckett Mariner: [coughs] Yeah, I may hate protocol, but I don't hate this ship. I don't hate the crew. I work with my best friends. The captain's my mom. I would do anything for her.
Vindicta: Oh, come on. No, you hate the captain. You complain about her non-stop. It's like your whole thing!
Holographic Ensign Beckett Mariner: Yeah, I mean, she's hard on me, right? She's the captain, and I'm a pain in the ass. But if she kicked me off the Cerritos, I would be done in Starfleet. She's watching out for me the only way she knows how: in a fucked-up, overbearing, mom way.
Vindicta: Oh, please, The only person you care about is yourself.
Holographic Ensign Beckett Mariner: [laughs] Okay, well, then why did I let you kick my ass to buy time for everyone to get off the ship before the self-destruct timer went off?
Vindicta: Wait! What?
Holographic Ensign Beckett Mariner: [laughs as self-destruct timer behind her counts down the last two seconds]
[the holographic Cerritos blows up]
- ConnectionsReferences Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
Sometimes I think people are depressed and they project their depression on TV shows.
Beautiful storytelling fun and interactive lots of different events going on has some deep heartfelt meaning and care you can tell there's lotta genius going on in this program. I enjoy the fact that they are storytelling rather than just random. I find the show very witty creative and fun to watch. When people complain I just think man they have no idea how much work goes into producing a comedy animation and I very thankful for everyone's hard work and put a smile on my face when I feel sick.
