I wish the movie was actually 13 minutes long
john-b-hale2 November 2021
Just like all the other reviews say this movie is a typical gender X film. It has gay / lgbt/ abortion / womens body rights blah blah blah. This could have be a GOOD movie about a bunch of strangers coming together (this is what I thought it would be) but instead typical Hollywood disaster with political crap.

Lame Low Budget Disaster Movie
stevendbeard1 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I saw "13 Minutes", starring Amy Smart-Stargirl_tv, the Crank movies; Peter Facinelli-Supergirl_tv, the Twilight movies; Trace Adkins-Deepwater Horizon, Mom's Night Out and Anne Heche-Chicago P. D._tv, Psycho_1998.

This is a low budget disaster movie that is pretty lame. The whole movie is about how a tornado affects several families and they hardly even show the tornado doing any damage. They do show the aftermath but not much else. Amy plays a disaster relief worker, Peter is her husband-and the local weatherman-and Trace is a farmer with his wife, Anne. There are a couple of side stories; one about Trace & Anne disowning their son when he tells them he is gay, and another about a teenaged girl getting pregnant, which I have no idea why they included them-unless they were trying to make the movie longer than 13 minutes.

It's rated "PG-13" for peril, bloody images and language and has a running time of 1 hour & 48 minutes.

It's not one that I would buy on DVD. If you really want to see it, I'd wait until it comes to cable.

Not real Good. The cast was fine, the film had a lousy script.
rebeccax516 July 2022
The effects were good---but that was only a few minutes. Too much simpleton soap opera. The large cast of characters that is self-defeating TV quality script..

GUT FEELING
andyprendy-1080622 February 2022
One time, I was in an NHS waiting room and to the pass the time I read a lengthy pamphlet about Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It was considerably more exciting than this film.

A Disaster Disaster film.
destiny_west1 November 2022
Do not waste your time, there are plenty of good disaster films out there.

I was not invested in one single character in this film. So whether they lived or died did not bother me in the slightest.

This film is just weak in plot, full of political agenda, and the acting is mediocre to say the least.

I am a fan of Thora Birch, so I was looking forward to watching her in something new. But not even her presence could salvage this film.

The basic plot is that a tornado hits a small town wiping it out. It surrounds 4 families and their experience.

If you want to be preached to, go ahead and watch it Personally, I'd rather go and revisit Twister and at least know I was getting what I paid for.

Terrible Movie
DrJellyfinger23 February 2022
This movie was plain awful. For those saying it was full of liberal talking points, that may be true. Here's the thing though, I'm as liberal as they come & this movie was horrendous. It doesn't matter if you lean left or right. Terrible is terrible. Terrible acting, terrible story, just all around terrible. While watching, it crossed my mind that this movie had to be some sort of money laundering scheme. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Honestly.

Better than you may think.
Sleepin_Dragon23 February 2022
Several families in a small town face danger and possible disaster when a thunderous tornado hits the area, each person has very limited time to react to the fast moving situation.

It's actually not bad, compared to some of the films I've suffered in recent times, it really isn't that bad. Despite its general casual pacing, there are some real moments of tension, with the real life terror coming from knowing that these things happen.

You have an hour of character development, so pacing could well be a huge issue for traditional fans of disaster movies. The first hour is slow, some of the characters you'll like, some you'll loathe, it's very soap opera, after an hour, you get the action, and the film moves from 1st, to 4th gear, it becomes altogether more appealing.

It's clearly a low budget film, but visually it's not without merit, it looks pretty decent I think.

Some of the acting is decent, some of it feels a bit Hallmark channel. You will see plenty of well known faces, including Peter Facinelli, in what is perhaps not his most challenging role.

I know this is going to get hated on, bits it really not bad, 6/10.

Hallmark movie with a tornado
FeastMode24 March 2022
Sigh. I thought I was going to watch a disaster flick. Instead I watched what seems like a Hallmark movie with a tornado.

I can't understand who thought it would be a good idea to focus on 25 characters in eight different storylines. And to "explore" heavy themes like racism and abortion. A different theme in each of the eight storylines. None of which are relevant to the story. What a waste. (1 viewing, 3/23/2022)

Ok movie
hailstorm-913437 November 2021
I'm a storm chaser so I was really eager to see that movie when I first saw the trailer. I can say that everything weather related in that movie was spot on and very realistic.

As for the plot, « cliche » is the best word that comes to my mind to describe it. Too many sub-stories to really make you care about the characters. At first when I saw the trailer, I really thought that the main focus was on weather but it's not. But overall I have to give the passage note.

A Social Commentary Hidden Behind a Natural Disaster Film
koinonia_92-117 January 2022
I bought this movie on Vudu as a fan of similar films (Twister, Volcano) and actors in the project (Amy Smart, Trace Adkins). Wasted money. The director adds social commentary to the backdrop of severe weather. LGBT issues, racial inequality, abortion issues, and white people behaving badly appear to be the primary focus of the film, instead of the ability and courage of humanity to cope with extreme weather and survive the aftermath. A homosexual male couple face the difficulties involved in combining out to conservative parents. Racial slurs and mistreatment of Hispanic illegals by white people included to "shock" viewers. We even get the opportunity to experience the debate concerning abortion. A verifiable mess with minimal resolution does not make an enjoyable film.

Back to the movies-A great way to start
rnfrfqgtnr9 November 2021
13 Minutes is an excellent portrayal of life in small town, mid west America. It illustrates a day in the life of four families and how they deal with the events of everyday life - including the weather. The movie cleverly demonstrates how life mirrors the weather. Things can be calm and uneventful but when a crisis hits it can tear things apart. It also demonstrates how people deal with life in the same way as they deal with the weather . Some completely ignore warnings, it will never happen to me. Some people assume someone else will take care of it. Some just don't know what to do. And others take it seriously and prepare accordingly.

For maximum enjoyment look at the deeper meaning in the movie. It is thought provoking - where would you fit ?

No Twister, but also not no Into the Storm
prscooby121420 November 2021
Really don't understand how this movie has such a low score - may be people feel the setup is too slow and/or long but I enjoyed it. I felt the movie makes you care about the characters (diverse, complicated, and nuancedd as they are, which is good!) before, during, and after the storm. The CGI coulda been better, but the disaster was compelling enough to compensate and felt impactfully real to the characters.

Overall better than it should be.

I'll sum it up in 13 seconds...
hello-180524 December 2021
...Drawn out, stupid storyline, about 30 seconds of tornado action. Don't be drawn in by the fact this was from the makers of deep water horizon. I feel robbed of 2 hours.

Casting director was decent
edblackham2 July 2022
The casting Director actually got some name actors in this, but too bad they didn't get a decent script or spend some money on special effects. I watched the first 30 minutes and fast forwarded to the horrible special effects of the tornado so I just stopped then.

ingamazonaite21 February 2022
I was wondering how is possible to make movie so awful, having a bunch of real great actors?

Don't waste your time, not worth 5 minutes watch.

There is no even 150 characters to describe it.

Very boring.

Great tornado movie. Don't listen to the bad reviews
coreytegley21 November 2021
Please do not listen to all the bad reviews. This is a great movie about a tornado and how people in a town come together at the end. Amy smart and Atkins were great. A must see. Just watch and you will like.

The 'Trailer' can be misleading..
tonylegg23 November 2021
If you're expecting 'Twister 2.0', then please give '13 Minutes' a pass and look elsewhere.

After watching the trailer, I was expecting a movie about tornadoes!!..not an 'edge of you seat' experience, but something along the lines of 'Night of the Twisters'..

'13 Minutes' is NOT a tornado movie, it's a suspense/drama..full of PC storylines, that happens to include a tornado at the end of Act II.

So, if you're just looking for an average movie to pass the evening, then '13 Minutes' might be for you..but if you're looking for a suspense-filled twister flick, you'll be disappointed.

Not a masterpiece, but not THAT bad as some commenters make it to be.
Fefi21 February 2022
The movie starts presenting normal people, living the normal life of inhabitants of the areas in the US where tornadoes can come and change your present and future. We learn about several characters, their stories, interactions, and then a tornado comes. This doesn't have scenes inside the storm like Twister, but close enough to give us an idea of how it is to be beating up by a tornado.

Why the very low ratings here? Because some people think problems like intolerance, lgbt issues, human rights, etc should be made political and not shown in a movie with another point of view from theirs. This page fell into some right-wing webpage and the flock came diligently to berate the movie and give it ridiculous low ratings, just that. Look at the clicks in "was this review helpful", they are joyfully yessing at each other. Pathetic.

If you come from another country with a broader perspective of life, do yourself a favor and watch the movie just expecting to learn about some personal stories and drama, with a big devastating storm in the middle, and you'll find it good enough to entertain you for an hour and a half. Not a masterpiece, but not as bad a some commenters make it to be.

So bad it's... terrible...
nebilcs-168-16529823 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Oh my.

This film is Strong On The Message. Young white men? Irresponsible, untrustworthy and selfish - unless they're LGBT in which case they're OK once they come out. Old white men? Racists, homophobes and heedless of personal safety. Women? Victims of the patriarchy - unless they're Christian in which case they're judgemental and uncaring. Illegal farmworkers? Hardworking heroes just making a living.

I feel quite sorry for the tornado which was denied any representation and failed to kill any of the hilariously badly-drawn characters meaning that there isn't one redeeming thing about this film. Not a single one.

This is not Twister. Get over it!
davey-mx21 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a weather buff who expected drama with a tornado not a bunch of tornadoes with a little bit of drama. That's what I got and I'm fine with it. I actually really liked it. (The closer you get to the bottom of this, the greater likelihood of SPOILERS!)

Before folks downvote the heck out of this (because I've noticed that many folks are downvoting nearly every single review that even remotely suggests something positive about this film), I should acknowledge that, yes, some of the acting was a bit painful. Some of the dialogue was equally so. And, while I am gay and somewhat liberal, I could have done without some of the filmmakers' obvious political leanings.

However, those things don't destroy the film. They're momentary blips, like "that actor's facial expression is painfully fake/forced" or "OMG, that line was rather unnecessary". Overall, it's still a really strong film despite its flaws.

I think that storm chasers (many of them) and weather nerds (and I count myself among them) expected a repeat of Twister and thank God that didn't happen. Everyone knows that Twister's heart was in the right place but most of the dialogue was laughable (with some of it being completely inaccurate), the characters were cartoonishly one-dimensional - at best, with a bunch of great actors (including two future Oscar winners) completely wasted - and the subplots were predictably painful.

13 Minutes, however, is a drama that focuses on the lives of ordinary people and provides a devastating tornado as its centerpiece. It's a slow burn while introducing everyone and showing how they're interconnected but you know something's coming. You know they will all be affected and they all stand to lose something significant. There's a degree of suspense when you realize this tornado is nearly on them but they don't.

Those of us familiar with some of the most horrifying EF4 or EF5 tornadoes in recent history know what the aftermath looks like. By the time that happens, you are truly invested in some of these characters (you could care less about a couple of them as well but that's understandable/inevitable). You feel the emotion or experience the shock alongside them. I was actually pretty choked up. It was like being in Moore or Joplin or Tuscaloosa on the worst day of their lives. It was almost as if you *knew* these people and suffered their loss.

I won't say this is an Oscar winner but it's hardly the debacle critics have suggested it is. As was said by others, you have to watch this film for what it is and not what you want it to be.

NOW, the worst of the potential SPOILERS (STOP NOW if you don't want to see the SPOILERS):

The scummy preppy kid and the gay kid's parents should have been totally Jarrelled. The fact that the parents survived that nightmare while NOT being the storm shelter is one of the most unrealistic things about this film. The mother looked mighty good for someone who was on the top floor of a farmhouse almost completely obliterated by a probably-EF4 tornado. The father's neck would have been broken after he carted off on that stupid ATV thing directly into the path of that monster! And, let's be frank, the pregnant girl should NEVER have let scummy-preppy guy into the house in the first place. He definitely didn't deserve that bathtub.

In hindsight, nobody died. Even that hairdresser who was practically crushed by a building still got carried off on a stretcher. Some deaths - preferably the jerks - would have been more believable.

Most Realistic Tornado Film To Date
joshbontront9 November 2021
Me being a storm spotter, I've always wanted a tornado film that depicted the weather realistically and not just for show... this film does exactly that. This is hands down the most realistic one to date and wasn't at all like 'Into The Storm' for example, where the weather was simply made to look cool and do cool things.

With that said, we only get one shot of the tornado throughout the whole movie. That one shot however, is the most ominous and chilling I've seen in a tornado flick... but you are still left wanting to see more. On the plus side, there were quite a few scenes that took place inside the tornado and those were great.

The first act of the film is drawn out due to the sheer number of characters that have to be introduced and developed. The film could have benefited from having a third of those characters removed, as you are left wondering when the actual weather part of the movie is going to start.

During the aftermath of the storm, you gain a real understanding of just how destructive these forces of nature can be and how crucial it is to heed the warnings and take cover when severe weather is imminent. This movie needed to be made for that sole purpose.

Is it worth the watch? Hell yeah! Is it better than 'Twister'?... I think we all know what the answer to that question will always be ;)

The entire movie should've been 13 minutes
jaswards6 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm so disappointed in this. I have been looking forward to this movie for a while. Finally, I get to see it. Ugh, what a let down. It's closer to 13 minutes of a bad tornado movie with awful acting, and the rest is the same ol leftist propaganda preaching being shoved down your throat (as if we don't get enough of it already). Just complete rubbish.

I made an account to give it 1 star
Ibisadlay28 October 2022
This is by far the worst movie I have ever watched. I know this sounds like hyperbole but please believe me. I beg you. The poor attempt to intertwine 7 (or more, who cares) terribly written and irrelevant sub plots into a movie that features less than 5 minutes of tornado goodness was pitiful and embarrassing. I don't understand how anyone could make a movie this bad without trying.

Also, it wouldn't end. It just kept going and going and it managed to get worse.

You would need to give me a significant reward to even consider rewatching this trash.

PS: It's pathetic attempt to include LGBTQIA+ community neither impressed or broke boundaries. If anything it made things worse. I hope the director takes a long hard look in the mirror.

Lackluster boredom
patricia-a-l-pimenta31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As a severe weather enthusiast, I am always eager for another Twister, or even Day After Tomorrow. From the trailer it seem to be exactly that.

Just finished watching and it's a bore. This movie is filled with clichês and stereotypes of the good old Ye-Haw lands, not even well done. We have the ignorant hillbilly couple with the whole "pro-life" garbage mom and the homophobic dad that throws a fit amidst the storm when his son tell him he's gay, we have the hispanics and racism associated, you name it, this movie has.

It's a sad mess and you will be better off with the docu-series available on the Weather Channel's Youtube.

Tl;dr: Boring, too much useless people talk, little actual tornado. Do not recommend.
